I get very annoyed at the social justice folks on Tumblr, despite strongly agreeing with the ideas behind the various movements, because a lot of the “justice” done here is really no more than finger-pointing and blaming and shaming. The article does a good job of addressing the overarching issues behind gender/ other equality movements and how it is impossible for them to exist in a vacuum. I especially appreciated the description of a landing zone, as I haven’t really seen anything like that around here…
What I continue to take away from discussions like these is that you truly can’t gain understanding and respect for any group without supporting understanding and respect for all groups… The unfortunate truth is that, despite varying levels of privilege, we’re all being ground down by the same shitty machine.
{Thanks to my friend for sharing this}
This is a very interesting article, and I think it addresses very well a lot of the aspects of feminism and minority rights that have always bothered me: just because one gender, race, or group has had it better off in the past and in the present doesn't invalidate their needs and the unfairness of their situations. Finger-pointing doesn't help anyone. Equal rights means equal rights, not minority overrules. We need to be putting up fewer walls in our efforts for social equality. Alienating any group (especially the privileged one) does not help the underprivileged, and playing the blame game just makes everyone angry.
I don't know if I should stop or continue reading the comments of rebloggers because I love so many it's going to crowd up my blog!
Just a few more and I'll try to stop! People just keep making new, interesting points that I must acknowledge and reblog so I remember them!
congrats to zach braff and donald faison for having literally the perfect friendship

My letter
Okay, I’m going to fess up because this is something I feel I should, maybe, add my voice to. As a person who ships Sterek more than I ship anything else.
I didn’t watch Teen Wolf because of Sterek.
I didn’t hear about Dylan and attack the screen and ship him with someone just like that.
I didn’t go to the show for the Werewolves.
I didn’t watch it so that I’d understand what the big fuss over it was.
For some reason, I was in my corner of tumblr, of the whole internet, and hadn’t heard of the show. Not once. Not at all. I had heard of the characters before, and I had read brief things about them; I wasn’t going in blind. But I didn’t hear about Sterek at that point. That wasn’t what got me watching.
I found an interview. I was curious, so I watched it. It was Jeff, Jeff talking about his show, about the world he created and why he created it.
This is beautiful and YES, YES TO ALL
no Jess, I REALLY like Beckham.
“The thing that finally pushes The Hunger Games over the top is the performance by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, and finally, here’s a pop culture phenomenon centered around a female character who I can fully endorse, who manages real strength without simply being a female version of a male character. She is strong, she is capable, she is emotional, and she is human, and the script, adapted by Ross and Billy Ray, allows Katniss all of her rough edges, and Lawrence invests her with a rich inner life that makes her feel real. It is a pure movie star performance, and Lawrence rises to the occasion.” [x]
