trick or treat!

This is another opening scene to a fic I never finished.

This one goes back a couple of years. It was going to be a Dawn POV Season 6 AU in which the Scooby Gang break Faith out of prison early. Never really quite worked out exactly what I wanted to do with it beyond that premise: I had several ideas, but I never settled on how they'd all fit together.

But looking back at it now I think the intro isn't too bad, even if it's a bit rough in a few place.

20 questions for fic writers

Thanks to @isagrimorie for the tag!

1 How many works do you have on Ao3?

14

2 What's your total Ao3 word count?

452,732

3 What fandoms do you write for?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and technically Angel, I suppose, but not really), Mass Effect (but not recently)

I've also tried writing some Avatar: The Last Airbender and Farscape and Person of Interest works over the years, but nothing that I've finished yet.

4 What are your top five fics by kudos?

Coexist: Season 3 Buffy AU in which it was Giles, and not Jenny, who was murdered by Angelus in Season 2 [27 chapters; 277,084 words; various POVs but mostly alternating Buffy/Faith]

Last Year's Rain Didn't Fall Quite So Hard: Season 4 Buffy AU in which Faith wakes up from her coma having forgotten about killing Allan Finch and everyting that happened afterwards [one shot; 16,904 words; Buffy POV]

Together: Season 3 Buffy AU in which the Homecoming Dance goes a bit differently [one shot; 2,711 words; Faith POV]

Done: post-canon Buffy fic set a few years after the end of Season 7, with Buffy having mostly stepped back from being an active Slayer [one shot; 4,312 words; Buffy POV]

Mixed Signals: post-canon Buffy fic looking at Faith's changing relationship with Buffy since first meeting her [one shot; 4,919 words; Faith POV]

5 Do you respond to comments?

Not often or promptly enough. I try though: I really do appreciate the comments I get a lot.

6 What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Think this is a toss-up between two different canon-compliant Faith POV one-shots: One Girl In All The World and Calling.

7 What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Together is the happiest and fluffiest thing I can imagine ever writing.

8 Do you get hate on fics?

I don't think so? None that I can remember anyway. (I do use the block and mute features on Ao3 though, so maybe I'm just blissfully ignorant.)

9 Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No. Just don't have the talent for it.

10 Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I don't have any published crossovers but I do have very vague ideas for a Buffy/Farscape crossover that I sometimes play around with in my mind. (Largely inspired by the joke of taking the couple of times Crichton makes references to 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' which his crewmates don't get, and pretending that they're right to assume he's talking about a person he knows rather than a TV show he used to watch.)

11 Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge (and honestly I'm not sure I'd want to know if I had?).

12 Have you ever had a fic translated?

If I have I don't know about it (and I would love to know if I did!).

13 Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I think it might be fun, but I'd probably have to change the way I write a lot.

14 What's your all time favorite ship?

Moya!

I mean, look at her!

(Oh, okay, it's Buffy/Faith, if that wasn't obvious.)

15 What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I'd love to finish either of my uncompleted Mass Effect fics (the first and longest, Residuum, is actually fully planned out and has been for years: I just got stuck on writing a particular chapter and never managed to come back to it; I had a fairly detailed plan for Night Winds in Nos Astra when I posted the first chapter but then I decided I hated it and never figured out how to fix it.)

16 What are your writing strengths?

Dream sequences. Internal monologues. Foreshadowing. Planning. Quoting bits of canon back at the reader in hopefully interesting ways. Hopefully getting the characters' voices sounding reasonably accurate.

17 What are your writing weaknesses?

Deadlines. Brevity. Physical descriptions. Titles.

18 Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I haven't really thought about it much before, honestly.

19 First fandom you wrote for?

Mass Effect is the first fandom I submitted anything for anywhere online. I wrote some Avatar: The Last Airbender fic before that though (a long Azula POV AU that I would kind of like to come back to one day, though I'd probably have to rewrite it from scratch).

20 Favorite fic you've written

Realistically, I think popular consensus must be correct that Coexist is the best thing I've ever written (though I sometimes wish I'd spent more than a minute thinking up a title). It's definitely the work I'm proudest of, and I think it contains some of my best writing (and ... well, most of my writing, based on the numbers I just posted). But I have a bit of a soft spot for some of my earlier Mass Effect fics, which aren't incredibly polished but I learned a lot from working on, and for Last Year's Rain Didn't Fall Quite So Hard as well.

I wrote a 16,000 word Season 4 Fuffy fic for a gift exchange last month that I'm quite pleased with and which I can admit to being the author of now, so here's a link to it.

(And you should definitely check out the fic @bodytoflame-ao3 wrote for me too, which is very good.)

Oooh there are so many good prompts, it's hard to choose! I'm gonna go with Fuffy + 13. “You make me feel safe.” :)

Sorry this took so long! To be honest, I'm still not 100% happy with it, but one of the things I was trying to do with these prompts was let myself write quick and short stand-alones without worrying too much about editing them afterwards and it's already been over three weeks. Hopefully it works okay as it is.

This is an almost canon-compliant S7, except that Faith got broken out of prison and came to Sunnydale a few months earlier than she did in canon.

Fandom: avatar: the last airbender (azula/ty lee)

Note: one hot summer day, in one of the fire lord's many opulent homes, ty lee finds a forgotten old weapon and azula is all too ready to use it to put ty lee to the test.

-

Azula’s not as quiet as she thinks.

Maybe that’s not fair.

She’s quiet, when she wants to be. Light of foot, patient when it counts, smart and deliberate. She’s been sneaking around since she was just small, creeping around the palace, small and hidden, turning stray conversations into weapons and armor. She's always been good at it.

But she learned how to be very good from Ty Lee.

The good news is that I've written about 9000 words of the last chapter of Coexist. The bad news is that this was also true a month ago, and I'm still not sure when I'm actually going to finish. But ... uh. Soon? Maybe?

Season 3 AU. Buffy Summers/Faith Lehane. When Angel lost his soul last year, it wasn't Jenny Calendar who died. Now Angel is gone, and he's not coming back.

It's a new year of school, and Buffy has a new Watcher. But she's not the only Slayer in town anymore.

Chapter: 25/27 POV: Faith Lehane Word count: 17,037 / 261,207

Season 3 AU. Buffy Summers/Faith Lehane. Jenny didn't die last year. Giles did. Buffy sent Angel to hell, and he's not coming back.

Three years ago, Buffy had had what she'd considered a normal life. A good life. Two parents who'd loved her; surrounded at school every day by friends or well-wishers or hangers-on. A spot on the cheerleading squad; an ordinary, simple boyfriend. Destiny-free, and yet with a clear vision of what the future held in store.
This isn't exactly the Prom which that Buffy would have wanted.

Chapter: 24/27 POV: Buffy Summers Word count: 14,900 / 244,170

Wrote this one a while ago -- specifically, to coincide with the anniversary of The Gift -- and I wasn’t really sure what I thought of it at the time.  But reading it again recently I decided I quite like it, and I don’t think I’ve linked to it from here before.

Content warning .... well, this is a Faith POV canon-compliant one-shot that takes place at the end of S2 of Angel / the end of S5 of Buffy.  There’s a reason it’s tagged as angst.

New fic alert: It Makes You Look Stupid

Well, my one shot became a three shot (again). Part One of It Makes You Look Stupid is up, featuring accidental voyeurism, Buffy being Very Normal, Kennedy trying very, very hard to help her very, very clueless friends, so many euphemisms for sex, and Faith having an unfortunate Pavlovian response.

Summary:

Buffy comes across Faith in a compromising position. Faith is extremely cool until she's not. Kennedy should win awards in friendship, patience, and the fine art of not committing murder. Set Post-Chosen

Chapter two is up! Kennedy is on the frustrating end of the 'idiots in love' tag. Buffy ups her game in a big way, and Faith knows every filthy-named mixed drink there is.

The final chapter is up, featuring defensiveness and miscommunication. Special assist from Kennedy who is at the end of her fucking rope. Hope you enjoy! :)

Title: the pattern won’t wash out

Fandom: buffy the vampire slayer (buffy summers/faith lehane)

Note: set during s7. When Buffy gets her memory wiped by a spell, she seeks out Faith to answer some burning questions.

-

“So, the breakup must have been pretty bad then, I’m guessing,” Buffy says, in that tone that she uses when she wants to sound casual about something she’s been obsessing over.

Faith raises her eyebrows, glancing over at Buffy. “As far as I know, you’re still together. As much as you ever were, anyway — I never really got all the details.”

Of all the things that have changed, this has stayed exactly as Faith remembers. Buffy doesn’t talk to Faith about her life. Especially not her boyfriends. Not any more than she absolutely has to.

“No, not me and Spike,” Buffy says, pushing off the railing and crossing the gap between them to sit down next to Faith. She’s so close Faith can smell that stupid, fruity body-spray she loves. Cherry blossoms. She’s so close Faith can’t help but feel a pang of regret about it, the way the ashtray smell of her bad habit is going to smother that nice, clean scent. “Me and you.”

New fic alert: Moonshot

Blue gatorade Titanic spatula hand extravaganza AKA Moonshot is now up (part 1 anyway). As usual, I could not meet the deadline so I've split this into a two parter. Hopefully part 2 is up next weekend! For now, please check out Moonshot and enjoy. :)

Summary:

When she finds herself with a shiny new case of telepathy, Buffy knows she needs to use this to her strategic advantage. They need info on the ascension, and Faith has it. She isn't prepared for how the aspect of the demon will interact with the slayer connection or what she learns from Faith's mind.
Set during Season 3's 'Earshot' and beyond.

Part 2 is up! Featuring Oz being a good bro and Parker Abrams, fuck boy extraordinaire, getting exactly what he deserves.

POV: Buffy Summers

Pairing: Buffy/Faith

Word Count: 4,336 / 188,353

She almost expected the next words that Xander spoke, though she hoped they would be any other ones. When he said them, in a deep, serious tone, her heart turned to ice, and she had to grab Faith’s hand, to stop herself from falling to the floor.
“It’s Tara.”
