For Eugene, I headcanon him as demiromantic, demisexual, and cisgender. I think he needs to have a really strong bond with someone and trust them enough to really fall in love with them

⚗️ You knocked on the dark door of a stranger's home. You had heard that an alchemist lived there (well, nobody called him an alchemist. They called him a wizard, but you digressed). Though you didn't know him, you hoped that he would be willing to humor you. You wrung your shirt in your hands. You fingers caught on a stray thread from an embroidered star. Nervousness fluttered in your belly.

⚗️ "Varian! Open the door!" a man's voice called from the inside.

⚗️ You gnawed on your lip, fidgeting with your moonstone moon earring. You turned halfway from the door before it opened.

⚗️ " . . ."

⚗️ You turned back. "Hi."

⚗️ "Are you looking for my dad?"

⚗️ "Um, well I . . . uh . . ." all semblance of rational thought left your head. The enormity of what you wanted to ask seemed suddenly ridiculous to you. "I—uhm . . ." You gave an embarrassed little laugh. Your mouth was cotton-dry. "You're Varian, right?"

⚗️ Varian nodded. "If you're looking for Quirin, he's my dad." He opened the door little wider, unspoken invitation clear.

⚗️"Doyouknowwherethealchemistlivesbecausenobodyelseunderstandsmypassionforscienceandthisisalreadysoboldsomaybernevermindsorryaghhhhhh."

⚗️ "Do you know where the alchemist lives because nobody else understands my passion for science and this is already so bold so neverminded, sorry," you repeated. You paused for a moment before repeating "aghhhhhh" in a monotone voice.

⚗️ He chuckled. You decided that you liked the way he looked. He had round blue innocent eyes and nice hair. Those were good qualities in boys.

⚗️ "That's me. Do you wanna see my lab?" His eyes scanned your face, stopping at your lips, before continuing down. "Nice earrings, by the way." He looked at the shiny embroidered stars that encompassed your entire clothing. "Do you really glow in the dark?"

⚗️ "Yes, thanks, and I do!!" A grin split open your face.

⚗️ You stepped foot into Varian's home before he paused. "What's your name? I can't believe I forgot."

⚗️ "That's pretty," Varian said. He waved an arm and you followed behind him, though you would never tell him that you heard him say: "like you."
