I Can't Feel My Face When I'm With You

"I must be in love," the younger man stated plainly, eyes bleary and unfocused as John pulled him off the dump heap he was calling a bed … 

"Oh yeah?" John asked casually, police instincts preventing him from focusing on the face so much as diagnosing the damage … he spent a minute wiping off the debris that clung to trousers, hair, and jacket - not wanting them in his car - before looking back up at the junkie. "And why's that?" He asked, a jovial repartee. This guy was always a talker … 

The face that stared back, was suddenly serious. Intensely focused. Contemplative …

It arrested John's attention.

He stopped short, as the man stood to his full height. He was gorgeous. How had John not noticed this before?

Raven black curls. 

      Porcelain skin. 

            Plump red lips.

Colour heightened by the amphetamines - no doubt - based on the speed of the man’s racing heart! 

                      Pupils blown W I D E …

"Because … I can't feel my face when I'm with you?"

It was stated like an obvious fact.

John gaped. Dumbfounded.

The man had declared it with such conviction, John wanted to burst out laughing!

But … something prevented him doing so … 

It was with extreme difficulty he kept the amusement from his voice.

      "And face numbness is a degree to love?" He inquired, head tilted.

"My brother says that love is a powerful paralytic. He is incredibly knowledgeable about these sort of things, it seems … I’m really … not … " he winced,  "should have paid more attention … I suppose?" he was losing focus again, and John caught him as he also lost his balance. Grappling onto John's offered shoulder for respite.

"Yeah, well … your brother sounds like a toff. And I don't think he took into account the stuff you've been on this week!" John chided. He had a soft smile on his face though, one that just wouldn't go away as he guided the clinging junkie to his car …

"That's twice now, I've had to rescue you! Please tell me you'll quit this stuff, Sherlock? I hear you're quite brilliant, actually. Word on the street. Not that I've had a chance to proper see it?!" John was laughing as Sherlock simultaneously let him tuck him into the car while rotating 180 degrees to keep his eyes fixated firmly on his person …

"Why do you take the stuff anyways?" John hesitated to close the door of his patrol car. Wanting a genuine answer.

"Cure for boredom," the puzzling response of his captive, formed into a lopsided grin as he watched, "twice my rescuer. Does that make me your damsel in distress, then?" he looked John up and down in an obviously undressing way ...

John blinked. Tongue tied as he tried to think up an appropriate response.

"I'd much rather have an intelligent and sober partner, thank you!" he barked back. Noting the long legs and bohemian fashion Sherlock was lounging in the back of his cop car ... an open invitation.

Good god, this man could ruin him!

He slammed the door harder than he meant to, and dug himself into the front seat. Staring back at the rear view mirror a few seconds, incredulous. Before starting the car up and driving on.

It gets worse. So much worse.

…Four years together, and he still didn’t trust her enough to tell the truth? Their dog was sick, and he USED IT AS A TEST to see what she’d do, instead of telling her the truth and saying he’d take care of it?  He didn’t hear that she sold the violin and IMMEDIATELY break down, tell her the truth, get it back from her and tell her that she didn’t have to worry about how they’d pay for their beloved pet’s medical treatment, and apologize profusely for having his own head stuck so far up his ass that he let her stress over it in the first place? YES. THE ENTIRE MAN.

I am so so incredibly sad for her. Being with someone who doesn’t pull their weight in a relationship is so fucking tiring. You’re always exhausted & resentful because you know you deserve better. She had to sell her own possessions & work her ass off for YEARS & he never thought she deserved more than what she had. He could’ve done so much shit for her out of love but instead saw nothing wrong with her struggling…..? He has to be a psychopath…..

This is truly awful - he put her in a bad financial position with unnecessary stress FOR A TEST
