#imo this line is such a direct insight into ctub's thought process#this isn't some big thing he thinks long and hard about like this is the instant logical leap his brain makes#'yourself?' as in 'what else could you be?'#and correct me if i'm wrong. but with a little implication of 'how could me being gone affect your sense of personhood?'#even tho so much of ctub's own personhood (from his own perspective) relies on ctommy. he just can't picture it applying in reverse#because so much of ctub's actions are subconsciously rooted in self-hatred . and the idea that if he relies on anyone besides himself#that hes weak#ok. sorry this got me

What’s crazy about “what am I without you?” “Yourself!” Is that that it is genuinely such an insane line to conclude Tommy’s arc in season 2 like, because all season people have been expecting Tommy to be a certain thing. Tubbo wanted him to be more mature, Techno wanted a loyal ally, Dream wanted a plaything. Throughout it all, Tommy’s struggled to say for himself who he is. And now, here at the end, when met with the prospect of never seeing his friend again, Tubbo tells Tommy that he’s himself. That that’s enough. That he will continue to be himself with or without him. Because through this whole season Tommy’s fucked up and been fucked over and made mistakes and suffered the consequences and that’s okay, that it’s who he is, and that it’s all he has to be.

"Yeah, you probably wouldnt exile me." "I wouldnt." "Because I would've actually listened to you, and done what you said."

^ This line kills me because it's true. Even if cTubbo has 100% certainty that cTommy is leading him to his own death, he goes along willingly. He calls it respect, but it isn't that, and it isn't even trust. It's a blind devotion that, despite it all, cTubbo never lost.

It's hurting cTubbo here to realize that cTommy doesn't share that blind devotion. He would take a thousand bullets for cTubbo, but his principles come first. His need to not let cDream continue to bully LManberg won out over his devotion to cTubbo, and that's really the root of the argument here.

cTommy didn't really see that, so he didn't apologize properly, and by the end of it all cTubbo starts to realize that, if he (in his eyes) isn't cTommy's priority anymore, cTommy shouldn't be his.

cTommy, in his mind, is putting cTubbo first still. cTubbo and LManberg are synonymous to him. They are home and comfort and his reason to wake up in the morning, and cTubbo being president really helps cement the two together in his mind. cTommy wants to get cDream to leave Lmanberg - and, by extension, cTubbo - alone. He wants to make sure that the future of Lmanberg - cTubbo's future - is a safe one. But, crucially, he communicates none of this, at least not in those uncertain terms.

Of course, it's a lot more complex than this, cTubbo has many other lives to think about. But I think if this argument between them had gone differently, cTubbo would've once again thrown away all logical thought in favor of cTommy.

(And, for what it's worth, we do see cTommy realize that cTubbo IS always going to be his priority, as seen in the disc finale, so it gets resolved eventually a few lifetimes of torture too late)

like if we're going to have tommy in a ton of fanwork regardless can we turn him into the goddess of death/life/wahtever stuff. like you just have an annoying ass guy with a fuckload of power from behind the scenes now. his godly title doesn't even sound like a real thing. "god of fraud" fakest sounding god of all time. but it's so fraudulent it loops back around

like i can see it so clearly he faked his way into godhood and it works and tubbo hates him and keeps trying to break off the connection and he just won't let him
