Heyyy! Ok so I just finished young justice and I'm a little confused. Why do people ship TimKon like I don't even think they said anything to each other the whole season. So do they act differently in the comics or do people just think they'd be cute together. I'm just making sure I didn't miss anything. Hugs and kisses! Ps: How's it been? I hope your doing well and loving life.
Hi! Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, but to be honest I didn’t think myself qualified to answer this question. There are so many talented, dedicated, knowledgable fans on this site who could answer this with dozens of examples and scans of panels but unfortunately I am not one of those fans (I wish). What I can say is that Tim and Kon’s relationship in the comics is radically different. To the best of my knowledge they are best friends and mean a lot to each other so that’s where the TimKon subtext comes from. In YJ they explored his character in a different way, and I can’t say how it compares to him in canon because I have never read a comic with both Tim and Kon in it (whoops). I’m sure they wanted to focus more on Connor and M’gann’s relationship than his and Tim’s friendship. For me, I’d love to see more of the Batkids and their relationships with both each other and other heroes. Well I hope I answered your question even a little bit, and if any TimKon diehard sees this and is exploding because of its inaccuracy, do your magic and give this wonderful blogger the answer they deserve.
Oh yeah, Tim and Kon had a very different relationship in the comics. The show, despite how good it was, really wasn’t like the comics at all. First off, the show was more like the Titans comics, I would say, except age differences were altered to all match. The majority of the characters in YJ were on the Titans roster in the comics, but the only ones in the actual YJ comics that appeared on the show were Tim, Cassie, Kon, and Bart. They all had a really close friendship that developed over comic book years, but Tim and Kon referred to each other as best friends and were especially close.
Spoilers:
Tim was the only one who knew about Kon’s actual DNA combination.
Tim tried to clone Kon after he died. Even Kon’s girlfriend moved on sooner.
Kon was the only one who believed Tim when he said Batman was still alive.
Kon refused to accept anyone as a replacement for Tim–Stephanie and especially Damian.
There are lots of other things and plenty of small interactions that add up like their banter in their Superman/Batman issues and the hug in Red Robin #9.
Maybe @syntactition wants to jump in? This feels up her alley.
Teen Titans v3 Issue 19
52 #51
Young Justice #1
Red Robin #20
Red Robin #9 (”Thanks” (Tim))
Teen Titans v5 Issue 12
some scans that mean a lot to me…there’s more but I don’t have it right now.
A bonus Quote, “As far as I’m concerned, you’re my Robin. Always will be” (Kon) “ You’ll always be my clone boy” (Tim Drake, don’t remember which comic)
There’s barely any interaction in YJ but there’s so much history between them in the comic books.
Just one more scan because I can’t help myself:
Tim believes in Kon no matter and no matter who doesn’t because he knows Kon and what he stands for.
