If you write all your characters in a story based on you, if they share all of your ideas and values, they aren’t characters. They’re you. I like to use my own life and experiences for inspiration, but I also try to makes sure not all my characters share my same views and values or experience, or at least not all of them respond the same way to that experience. Don’t be afraid to write characters that are less than loveable. Not everyone is in real life, and they need not be in fiction.
