So what I’m trying to say is… no, it’s not dead. But I do need to figure out some stuff first if I want to fully commit to coming back. I know it’s a crappy response, but that’s all I’m able to say right now. I’m still here though, checking up on things as often as I can, so I’m not gone for good. :)
(p.s. thanks for 2.5k, it really means a lot to me!)
I’ve used Avenir Next for most of my edits since 2016. I’ve also used Intro quite frequently in the past. If you have a specific edit in mind, just send me a message and I’ll look it up for you :)
1. Cosima and Delphine from Orphan Black2. Kelly and Yorkie from Black Mirror’s San Junipero episode3. Glenn and Maggie from The Walking Dead (I’m pretty sure one of them’s gonna die or something because it’s too good to be true but I’m only midway through season four so I’m going to blissfully ignore that fact and continue to enjoy their collective cuteness)4. Donna and Josh from The West Wing5. Jim and Pam from The Office6. Jane and Michael from Jane the Virgin
I really, really tried to come up with six movies but didn’t want to pick anything I couldn’t honestly call my favourite (I’m more of a TV person and horribly indecisive when it comes to movies) so you’re going to get four:
1. Good Will Hunting (my ultimate fave, I could watch this five times in a row and have the time of my life)2. A Single Man3. Inception4. Black Swan
I'm sending loads of positive messages out to blogs I know (and don't) and I just want to say your blog is amazing and you're so beautiful and wonderful and thank you for sharing so much
Yes! My schedule will be unprecedentedly relaxed for the next few weeks, so I’m trying to stock up on edits anyways. If you have a character, pairing, general idea etc. you’d like to see me do, just send me a message and I’ll do my best to make it happen :)
present day for the cullen's; what musical artists would each of the cullen's like?
Ooh, good question! My music knowledge is a bit limited, but I’ll take a crack at it.
(Spoiler: this ended up being more of a ’what is their general music taste’ type of thing. Oops.)
Carlisle - I feel like he’s pretty much a classical guy, through and through. After all, he’s lived through the birth and rise of many great composers and musicians and has probably seen a few of them live. It’s kind of tough to top that. I feel like he does have a genuine appreciation for natural talent, though, and will sometimes listen to some more modern (but probably still acoustic) songs. He also likes to listen to anything Esme likes, simply because he likes to watch her smile as she hums along.
Esme - Esme likes soft, romantic music. She likes to get lost in the songs and the feelings they bring up, and probably has a lot of memories connected to them. Nothing sad, though, just some happy love vibes for her. I kind of get a little Sinatra vibe from her, maybe a little Crosby, too. If we go more ’modern,’ I think she would like artists like Norah Jones and Michael Bublé, maybe even someone like Sarah Bareilles. When it comes to Esme and music, the most important thing is emotion. She doesn’t care about the small details, just as long as she can hear that the artist really poured their heart into it.
Jasper - Jasper is a complete mystery to me, to be honest. The books don’t give much to go on when it comes to his character, so I don’t really get a clear vibe from him. Maybe something like indie folk, bluegrass or southern blues. Good rhythm with a dark, mysterious vibe to it.
Alice - Alice likes up-and-comers, small indie bands and artists she can see glimpses of in her future. I feel like her favourite artists would have this unique and maybe a bit weird vibe to their music, but true talent and a good sound altogether. The only example I can give off the top of my head would maybe be someone like Ibeyi.
Emmett - I feel like Emmett’s approach to music is pretty much ’whatever, dude,’ in the best way possible. He likes mellow, upbeat songs that get him pumped. Songs that go well with parties and get-togethers, ones that make good background music for fun memories. I don’t think he cares that much about the messages the songs have.
Rosalie - She’s a bitch-ass queen and her music taste reflects it. Marina and the Diamonds, Lily Allen, etc. She likes songs with strong feminist messages, some a bit cynical but mostly ones about self appreciation and assertiveness that make her feel (even) better about herself.
Edward - I feel like he’s not so angsty and brooding anymore now that he has a wife and a kid. Definitely still a music snob, though. He likes some mainstream pop (@twilight-af said Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran and I can definitely see that, they nail that ’tortured love’ sort of vibe) and I’d imagine he likes some indie artists as well—he recognises real talent when he hears it and is all about the feel of the music, how well it flows and how natural it sounds. Mostly acoustic, and he definitely has a soft spot for the piano.
I just saw your Aro/Bella post, and it made me think of the popular Renesmee/Alec fanfics that I see really often. What are your thoughts there? In my opinion, it seems a little less creepy than Nessie falling in love with her mom's best friend.
I mean, it would be a little less creepy… for a while, before getting creepy again. Alec will always be a child, whereas Renesmee will very quickly grow up and reach full physical and emotional maturity. There’s a very brief window where a relationship between them would be fine, but there is a heavy emphasis on the word ‘brief’ here. After that… well, Renesmee would probably want something more, someone who will grow up with her—or, at least, be grown up with her.
I have found that many people like the idea of Aro and Bella. What are your thoughts?
It’s not my cup of tea, but I can certainly see the appeal. I feel like it could work, but it wouldn’t be a very happy relationship.
Let’s look at this from Aro’s perspective first. The probability of him being interested in Bella (or anyone) without being aware of her gift would be minuscule—if you’ve been alive for multiple millennia, it takes someone extraordinary to catch your attention. And this is not a guy who’s actively looking for a relationship, either. He decided to get himself a mate because he ”felt that the balance of power had swung away from him,” and chose Sulpicia because she happened to fulfill his specific qualifications. No matter how you interpret their relationship, it was very much a political marriage. Power will always be infinitely more important to him than other people.
So let’s say he knew about the full extent of Bella’s talent. Now he would definitely be interested, since it would be such a huge gain for him. And oh, look, he doesn’t have a mate! What a perfect opportunity to get one. An alluring promise of a better life, maybe a nudge from Chelsea, and it’d be a done deal. He’d most likely treat her like a queen: spoil her with gifts, make sure all of her wishes are fulfilled, whatever to keep her happy. His reasons for this would be entirely selfish, though: a satisfied Bella is a loyal Bella. I’m not saying that he couldn’t have actual feelings for her, but the thing with Aro is that he will always look out for himself first. He’s a cold, calculative political mastermind who will never do anything without first asking: ”But what’s in it for me?”
And that’s why Bella would never be truly happy with him. This is not to say that she wouldn’t be content with being Aro’s mate and the Vampire Queen Supreme, because she probably would. She was, after all, ”born to be a vampire.” If Edward had never returned after he left her in New Moon, this could have been a plausible outcome. Bella, heartbroken and devastated, seeks out the Volturi and asks to be changed. Aro, intrigued by her talents, obliges. Their union would be mutually beneficial, and together they would rule the world without anyone ever being able to challenge them.
But would she be happy? No. Bella needs that kind of undying love and devotion to be satisfied. She needs the intense emotions and the grandiose declarations of love and the mind-blowing sex. She needs the ”happily ever after” ending of Breaking Dawn, and she would never get that with Aro because Aro, by his very nature, would never be able to be so intimate and vulnerable with someone. Even if he truly did love Bella, his character would not allow it—he’s seen over and over again just how easy it is for a man in love to become a fool. He sees it as a weakness, and he cannot allow his position to become compromised. After all, power is and always has been more important to him than anything else. We saw it with Didyme, and we would definitely see it (albeit to a lesser extent) with Bella.
It could make for a pretty good fanfic, though. I’m picturing a very dark, ‘Game of Thrones’ type of thing with a lot of plotting and drama. Just in case anyone’s looking for fanfic ideas. ;)
Hi awhile back you made a post called "Jacob Black + imprinting" and you used a scene from BD1 and I was wondering if you knew roughly when that scene was in the movie? Thank you
