Super excited to meet Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman tomorrow at Awesome Con! Here is the watercolor painting I’m giving Jenna. I will post Peter’s later (I’m still putting the final touches on it).
101 places to see, where do you want to start?
I saw a post talking about how the Doctor basically almost destroyed time to save clara but didn't do anything to save River & only gave her 24 years. I noticed this too and I'm having a hard time defending the Doctors actions. Why would he go that length to save clara but not his wife? I mean for all we know he could have tried everything to save her already but I just need something to shut this argument down because I'm tired of people saying clara and the doctor had a romantic relationship.
Oh gosh I don’t even know where to start with this ask. The Doctor should not have done what he did for Clara. He didn’t want to be alone and he’d been traveling a bit too long with someone a bit too similar to him. He fucked up hardcore, OK? He learned a lesson from that, a very valuable one that he repeats to River on Darillium - everything ends and not even a Time Lord can change that.
Do you think he would ever want to make the mistake he made with Clara with River? He promised her that he wouldn’t rewrite one line of their time together. That’s how he’s showing her he loves her. By honoring his promise and refusing to do anything that could jeopardize their life together or his memories of her. How devastating would it be if he tried to save her like he did Clara and as a result he couldn’t remember her anymore? As painful as his relationship with River can be, I think the Doctor would rather die than forget her.
So instead he chose to be brave. He chose to stop running and give River the ending she deserved. A happily ever after in the only form it exists - more time. He’s going to spend 24 years with her and that’s if they don’t use the TARDIS to cheat a bit. They could spend eternity together in those 24 years if they do it right. The man who never stays for long, who never wants to get too attached, who doesn’t even want to get close enough to hold hands or hug anyone, is going to spend YEARS of linear time traveling with his wife. That’s a hell of a way to say I love you.
Also, people are free to ship whatever they want but the Doctor and Clara do not canonically have a romantic relationship. That’s just a fact. Peter Capaldi himself has stated that he’d like more kissing in Doctor Who as long as it’s not with Clara. Doesn’t sound remotely romantic to me:/ Sorry not sorry.
Peter agreed, there was no romance with Clara….
Stories are where memories go when they are forgotten
A non-shipper’s look at why the Doctor went so far to save Clara
Right off the bat, I’m a balls-to-the-wall Doctor/River shipper. I don’t ship the Doctor and Clara in a romantic way and never will.
That being said, the Doctor loves Clara and to the point where he would do anything to save her. It’s the culmination of all the bitter, tragic losses the Doctor has endured since the Time War. It’s his personal “no more.” No more exile to another planet. No more forcefully wiping her memory against her will (though yes, he did plan to wipe her memory but he acknowledges Clara’s agency. He did learn something from Donna.) No more getting trapped in time. No more wiring herself to a chair and electrocuting herself. He is going to rescue Clara and send her back to a normal life because he loves her, just like he loved all his companions.
and why would i want that?
You can’t see me, can you? You look at me and you can’t see me.
I’m right here.
“These have been the best years of my life, and they are mine. Tomorrow’s promised to no one, Doctor, but I insist on my past. I am entitled to that. It’s mine.”
She could be anyone right? You don’t know who you’re looking for. I mean, she could be me.
Run you clever boy, and…
I know her name was Clara. I know we traveled together.
I don’t understand. I do.
