Natt Różańska – Your Skin Under Mine
Braille reads: the slope of your spine the arch of your back the curve of your hip
Today I visited the small German town of Mainz, where they were excavating for a mall and accidentally found the ruins of a joint temple for the cults of Cybele and Isis. So now one of the totally ordinary looking storefronts in the mall just contains a set of stairs that leads down to this.
the Mainz temple is something I came across totally by surprise while trying to help Rocket find some cool places to visit while in Germany. here’s some stuff about it.
ISN’T THAT COOL?
anyway if you find yourself in Germany apparently it’s a very cool museum setup and not far from Frankfurt

(feel free to fact check me on any/all of this - I don’t know German and my French is rusty)
— Ursula K. Le Guin, from “A Rant About ‘Technology’”
[text ID: We have been so desensitized by a hundred and fifty years of ceaselessly expanding technical prowess that we think nothing less complex and showy than a computer or a jet bomber deserves to be called “technology” at all. As if linen were the same thing as flax — as if paper, ink, wheels, knives, clocks, chairs, aspirin pills, were natural objects, born with us like our teeth and fingers — as if steel saucepans with copper bottoms and fleece vests spun from recycled glass grew on trees, and we just picked them when they were ripe...]

“magic isnt real” — plants just grow out of the ground. for free. everywhere.
"It doesn't stop being magic just because you know how it works."
-Terry Pratchett

Sunset Clouds by Frederic Edwin Church

[image ID: screenshot of a Tweet from chuck_wendig that reads, "The allure of AI entices those people who fetishize ideas but dismiss the work. They're the people who will tell writers, "I'll give you an idea, then you write it, and we'll split the profits." For them, the vision is everything, and the work is just an annoying obstacle. But the WORK is everything. The work is how a thing happens, where it's made, where skill is put to work. AI in creativity is for the people who have no skill, no work, no effort, no ethic.
They just want to push a button." /End ID]
