This is after four years of campaigning. The rules had changed to allow gay men to donate if they had not been sexually active in the 3 months prior to donation, but the risk assessment now works the same for gay and bi men as it does straight men and women.

I think one of the worst things about being closeted is that on here or something, you’re proud, you’re openly lgbt or whatever and you’re somewhat used to just saying ‘I’m gay’ to people on here and have it be normal. And the second you want to say to your friends ‘I can’t wait to have a boyfriend’ or ‘I wish I was a guy’ or something you have to stop yourself and it’s this massive part of you that you have accepted but you can’t express something you can’t stop thinking about to people you care about.
