30. …as comfort.

Fear is hidden. Many bury it deep within themselves so no other could hurt them more than they are already broken.

But there are few in everyone’s lives that can easily pick out that fear and turn it into something so simple and beautiful.

Cassian loved Angelica and no one would doubt it. She was precious. A ray of light in the darkness that had been his whole life. He felt safer around her, his fears almost disappearing into thin air.

Though, there are times when those fears come back, stronger than ever. It would leave Cassian quiet and shaking. He would pull back into the corner. Into the dark where he always belonged. But Angelica was quick to draw him out.

Her smile. Stars, her laugh would chase away any darkness. Her lips against his, soft and loving kept him from breaking. Her kiss promised comfort. It promised a safer future.

She chased away his shadows.

And he would never let her feel his pain.
