Bruce has the billionaire chuckle it's unfortunately super effective on anyone who has a net worth lower than 50 million. Even the members of the JL (that one rare time they managed to make The Batman laugh) get psychically airdropped stock images of private jets and yachts (the only one who knows how to counter it is Oliver).

Just with his smile Dick's can warm your heart, imagine him full-on laughing. It doesn't change even when he's out as Nightwing: many civilians who experienced the vigilante laugh reported feeling comforted and safe even in highly stressful situations.

Jason has the most devilish cackle any human has ever heard. He sounds like he's kicking the curb a second time and unfortunately for anyone around him he's a Hitter: im talking shoulder slaps, shoving and arm-punching.

Tim inherited a watered down version of the billionaire chuckle. If something makes him laugh and he's in front of strangers he'll just let out an amused huff, not giving the person the satisfaction of making the CEO of W.E. laugh. Mainwhile with his friends and family he's less cagey and will let out a bunch of soft giggles on occasion.

Damian looks constipated. That small child is trying so bad to show some decorum by stopping his laughter that he looks like he's about to implode. The very rare times he loses composure he'll let out a mortifying snort, followed by a grimace aimed at himself.

Steph's laugh is very similar to Jason's, so they're extremely dangerous together for anyone in their vicinity. However Jason lacks the wheezing part that Stephanie has.

Cass has a very silent laugh often just showing her amusement by smiling, while Duke's is full of adorable giggles and snorts.

I love Cass, I'm not angry she got to be in birds of prey and she is getting her own series again but I'm absolutely furious Stephanie didn't get to be in birds of prey too with her and Babs and I'm not going to be angry for Steph not appearing in Nightwing with Babs because she has no business in that story but she was supposed to have her own team of young superheroes and that idea was rejected, also she was also excluded from Damians drawing of people who loves him but Cass and Babs were there even though Stephanie is the one who had the best relationship with him.

Babs and Cass are everywhere being more or less relevant and visual but Steph is always on the background or being a prop for another character more likely Tim (well actually not anymore because now he has a boyfriend and apparently if Steph is not his girlfriend then she is not worthy to be around) or Cass and Babs, hell she'll probably will make tiny cameos in Cass new Run as Batgirl being her prop as usual but we shouldn't expect her to do anything relevant in Cass story.

You know what? I don't mind her being a prop at this point just not the Batgirls or Tim's prop... since they exclude her from doing the cool stuff with the Batgirls and Tim forgot her existence since he started dating his cardboard boyfriend... Would it be so terrible to make her be the prop of different characters? Like: Black Canary or Huntress? No wait Babs is not allowed to share them even if they get along with Steph... Damian? Oh no wait, he only hangs out with his father, Hawkeye Junior, Rose, Superboy junior and the male Robins... Nightwing? Nah he only hangs out with Babs and the male Robins or the Titans... Oh but you know... This looks difficult but there are actually good characters with good chemistry with her that could use her for her own runs if they have one: Supergirl, Batwoman, Catwoman and guess who: RED HOOD... And hey! Back with Huntress... What about Steph meeting Batman's biological daughter he kept secret? And team up together with Supergirl and Irey west too?

Or only to make this funnier... What about Rose Wilson or Superboy Kon? Oh yeah they are only allowed to be with the male Robins or Cass I forgot... Even though She could roast Damian and Jason with them... What a waste...

Anyway... I'm just angry per usual about Steph not getting anything... It would be funny to have her having her own run but not as Batgirl... She deserves to have her chance as: "SPOILER" I will for the "Spoiler issue 1#"

Steph deserves her own comic again. There is so much about her that DC has tried to erase that should be further explored. Her history deserves to be acknowledged. She deserves to have closure from what Black Mask did to her. Her appearing to become something greater (future Batwoman or Nightwing, etc) deserves to be acknowledged. Like literally what do we know about what she wants or of life? Give us stories that touch on that.

I think you can see the difference in the Batfam with their relationship to killing, because there are nuances to it.

Jason Todd: will kill anyone he considers beyond redemption. He kills to save future victims of the bad guys. If you can't stop being a shit stain and no jail can hold you it's bye bye. Also, if killing you is going to make saving others more effective, you are a goner too (depending on where he is in his character arc)

Stephanie Brown: will kill in self defense and also to protect others. If it's between the bad guy and her/someone else, bad guy it is. She's not going to feel bad for it nor overthink it. Obviously it'd be great if there were other options but life sometimes is complicated.

Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne: will kill to save someone else. In Tim's case there is more rationalization, more indirect. If it's their life they'd rather die than break the rule (Tim is paranoid about turning evil, Damian feels guilty for his previous killing), but they can't stand and watch/not save others, even if the guilt is gonna wreck them.

Cassandra Cain and Bruce Wayne: they don't kill. Period. Unless it's an accident, and they will feel absolutely horrible for it. Dick could also be in this category, but I think if he was in a situation he would kill on instinct because he can't help saving people. It would kill him, but he's just unable to not save others.

*Disclaimer* Obviously up for debate and I don't know some of these characters as well as I should, but here's my take for some of the other Batfam members as well.

Barbara Gordon: I think she could be in the same category as Steph, being a cop's daughter, but I see her landing somewhere in-between Dick, Tim, and Damian, and Cass and Bruce. She'd rather use her intellect and skills to bring whoever to justice and have them face punishment for their crimes. Though if push came to shove, she'd go there, but only as a last resort. And like the others, she'd likely obsess and run scenarios to see if she could've done it differently and without killing.

Harper Row: I think she follows the same general code as Babs, but has a bit of a harder edge to her at times. She's lived in injustice and had an abusive and absent father. She's fiercely protective of her brother and those she cares about, so yeah, she'd go there, but would prefer not to. She wanted to kill Cass for the death of her mother, but realized that it wasn't Cass's fault. Not really. She's inspired by Cass to not kill, but I think if pushed hard enough she would.

Kate Kane: She's a military brat and former soldier, so I see her somewhere between Jason and Steph, but probably closer toward Steph on the spectrum. Killing is likely not something she feels good about, but if it's "for the greater good" and/or for justice, then she accepts it as part of the job.

Helena Bertinelli: Like Kate, her family background ties into her views on killing. She's seen death and seen how corrupt people wield power and death for the sake of control in the mob/mafia world. But since she's seen the darker side of it as opposed to war like Kate, she leans more toward Jason's POV. Though she realizes it's a never ending cycle as someone else will just rise up to fill the power vacuum when it comes to the mob world.

Duke Thomas: I'd say he has the most varied view on killing, but he's probably in the mix with Dick, Tim, and Damian. Though he may swing toward Steph or Harper on one end of the spectrum or toward Cass and Bruce on the other end, depending on the situation.

She and Jason are the same age and this is kinda the first time she meets someone her age. When he reaches out a hand to shake, she fucking Judo flips him and pins him to the ground.

Bruce quickly gets Cassandra off and gently explains to her that Jason is a friend and we don’t hurt friends. Jason wants to be mad, but she looked absolutely petrified when Bruce raised his voice and actually really ashamed that she hurt him. So he forgives her pretty quickly.

Jason also loves reading to her. They start with picture books, as they allow her to connect the images with words and such. But she’s a quick learner and soon can read books without pictures.

All according to Jason’s plan.

He quickly introduces her to his favourite books and he can babble on and on about them. He makes sure to ask Cass open ended questions so she feels encouraged to talk with him.

Dick comes for a visit and absolutely freaks out on Bruce. Like what do you MEAN you got another one? Why? I thought we talked about this?

Cass takes a while to warm up to Dick. But decides he’s her favourite after he bribes her with ice cream.

Bruce doesn’t know if it’s because Jason doesn’t like to be touched a whole lot, but he swears children are not as clingy as Cass. Bruce gave her a hug one time, and Cass has been on that dopamine rush ever since. All sense of personal space went right out the window when she experienced touch that wasn’t meant to hurt her. If Bruce is working in his office, Cassandra will come in, not address Bruce in anyway, and squirm her way onto his lap and just sit there.

She does this to like, everyone. She’ll lay next to Jason as he reads. She holds Alfred’s hand while he cleans. Once she straight up climbed Dick to sit on his shoulders because he held her up there one time and she just made herself at home.

This helps Jason become more comfortable with physical affection too. Jason will wake up from a nightmare to Cass staring at him.

“Agh! What the fuck, Cass!?”

“Scared.”

“What?”

“You are scared. Frightmare.”

“Yeah. I had a nightmare.”

“Nightmare.” Cass corrects herself.

“Yeah, am alright now though.” Jason goes to roll over and Cass stops him.

“Liar.”

“What? I’m not lying!” Okay, maybe it would take him a good hour to finally calm down enough to sleep, but he’s fine.

“Liar, liar, pants on fire.” Cassandra teased him.

“Seriously, Cass I’m fi-“ Cass drags him out of bed and marches him to Bruce’s room.

Bruce sleepily questions what two bodies are doing his bed instead of the usually single body (again, Cass has no concept of personal space so often sleeps with Bruce).

“Jason had a nightmare.” Cass says as she forcibly tucks Jason in beside him.

“Oh, Jaylad.” Bruce rolls over. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah but…” Jason thinks about going to his bedroom, but Cass is already cuddled up beside him. “Is it okay if I sleep in here for tonight?”

Stephanie starts flirting with Jason a) to fuck with Bruce because she hates his guts but still has to work with him and if she’s gonna be in the same room as fucking Bruce Wayne then she’s going to inflict maximum psychological damage at all times, b) to fuck with Tim for ghosting her the way he did, and c) because she doesn’t actually know anything about this giant slab of teenaged boy except what’s been filtered through Bruce, Tim, and Babs. Of all of them, Babs is the most cautiously positive, so she wants to see how he’ll react.

At first he’s tense and suspicious, about what she’d expected. The only reason she keeps going with it after that is to fuck with Bruce and Tim. But then one day she’s hanging around making fruitless eyes at Cass, who doesn’t know what sex or romance even is and has even-more-horribly aligned herself with Bruce, when Jason walks in. Guns strapped to his thighs. New mask covering his lower face. Glare already fixed in Bruce. And Stephanie kind of automatically calls, “oh hey, cutie, how’re you?”

Totally caught off guard, sort of stammers a bit then turns and just. Walks right out of the Bat Cave.

After that it is On. At least four times a week Stephanie reduces this giant slab of teenaged crime lord to a bashful mess. It’s her favorite game in the world. Tim and Bruce are losing their minds (Cass is confused and a little put out for reasons she cannot understand), but it ain’t about them anymore, no. Stephanie is a lion on the Serengeti and Jason is a wounded gazelle.

I say Jason but Steph needs some too

I am again thinking about the Nightwing VS Batman (mind controlled) fight in Bad Blood and how Bruce probably didn’t just break Dick’s arm, he probably hyperextended the elbow, ripped a bunch of tendons, and then broke a few bones on top of that just to be brutal. That wasn’t a “oh I’ll break his arm and then he can’t use his escrima stick” move — that was a “I’m going to injure that arm so badly he might never be able to use it again” kind of move.

And agh. Dick’s yell of agony when it happened. For someone with a Bat’s pain tolerance, you know that had to HURT.

And then it got reinjured in Judas Contact

Batman #148 Thoughts... or Why Jason Todd is Awesome and Batman Doesn't Deserve Him.

So... I know a lot of the discussion about this issue has been about what happens to Jason, and IYKYK. What I want to discuss are parts of the rest of the issue and why I think Jason is one of the best characters (and more than how many perceive him). *spoilers ahead*

Jason and Stephanie fucking rough and dirty on Jason's grave. Hi, helloooo...yes, I think that would fix me.

When they come back into the house the others all like, "let's not make it awkward, we'll just pretend we didn't see anything."

Tim, stepping out in a Superboy outfit: Yeah, I guess I'm ready.

Jason: Please tell me that's actually one of Connor's shirts.

Tim: No comment.

Cass, hopping down from the ceiling in a Black Canary outfit:

Dick: You look great Cass. Everyone else!?

Duke, moving into the room dressed as Black Lightning: Yeah, I guess I'm ready.

Bruce, appearing from the shadows wearing a classic Superman uniform, underwear on the outside: *grunts*

(A knock on the door, which Dick opens)

Barbara, dressed in her actual old Batgirl uniform minus the gadgets while in the wheelchair: Howdy, boys.

Steph, dressed accurately (really detailed) as Red Hood: Hiiii.

Everyone:

Jason: You have never been hotter, Steph.

Dick: Jason!

While we don’t know how Gotham War will end yet, I doubt it’ll be sunshine and rainbows.

Nonetheless, given the events so far, I made a little edit for my fellow #JaySteph fans.

“I don’t like the batkids going against Bruce” my guy he implied his own child deserved to die in a fit of rage. He’s brutally beating everyone in sight and throwing a tantrum. They should just sit there and take his bs? What the hell do you mean?

That's what I'm saying! Bat family civil war? No no, son. They all need to band together and beat the absolute tar out of him. He knows there patterns as individuals but not if they all made a plan... Had "prep time" if you will.
