People really need to realise that “media can affect real life” doesn’t mean “this character does bad things so people will read that and start doing bad things” and actually means “ideas in fiction especially stereotypes about minority groups can affect how the reader views those groups, an authors implicit prejudices can be passed on to readers”

When Edwina says she ‘didn’t ask for any of it’ she’s referencing Kate’s sacrifices for her and Kate’s plans for her. She’s not being literal.

After leaving the alter she realizes that her naïveté and sheltered world have lead her to a life that she may not actually want. She’s saying that Kate has foistered onto her expectations and a life that Kate wants for her. Not one she wants for herself. Edwina is taking control of her own life in that moment. That’s what she means.
