The November 18th performance Sungmin was a part of was NOT a musical. Please stop translating as such. It was a concert, that included performances of songs from musicals. I really hate to sound uptight but mistranslations really bother me @___@ and for the love of all that is holy please don’t rely on google translate. Naver Dictionary or Daum Dic are much more reliable sources.
If you want to tag the concert by name, “Autumn Night Banquet Concert” or “Autumn Night Banquet Recital” is more accurate. It wasn’t a musical. It wasn’t a musical.
Thank you, and again, please forgive me if I sound like a grouch.
Lovely Dorks
Would be great if the OP credited the source for the translation, at least for the first few gifs
Can I just make something clear?
- I am a kpop blogger, but I do not only listen to kpop.
- I am a kpop blogger, but I do not only love koreans, or asians in general.
- I am a kpop blogger, but I also love the korean culture.
This means
- Besides kpop I enjoy a lot of other music.
- I am attracted to any kind of person (preferably someone with a nice personality)
- I love and appreciate the korean culture, but I also love and appreciate my culture and know where I am from.
I honestly feel like a lot of people are forgetting this. There is a difference between being a fan (like most people) and fetishizing a whole culture, which in my opinion is really disgusting. Please do not mistake me for one of those, and please do not be that kind of person.
This is Henry doing an interview in English when he came out with “Trap.”
Watching him here, speaking in his first language, away from “Korean Entertainment,” you’ll notice something. There’s a HUGE difference between the brash, ridiculous, slightly dense caricature of himself he’s coached into playing on Korean TV and who he actually is: soft-spoken, humble, heart-breakingly sweet, and so very talented.
If you were ever confused or put off by what he says and does on Korean TV, watch this, and remember – for every idol in k-pop, there’s an entertainment industry behind them trying to create a marketable brand out of them…Henry got saddled with the doofy, 4-D “cute foreigner” brand.
We Strings know better, though.
Ryeowook buys a matching pair of rings, silver with trees with intertwined tree branches running all the way around, trying to work up the courage to give the second one. He keeps one in his pocket and the other on a chain, wearing it under every sweater, and he fidgets with it so much that everyone starts thinking he has heartburn and he starts finding little bottles of Tums left for him everywhere.
Maybe I’ll catch you before you head out? Sorry, again, it’s not great because it’s rushed and I couldn’t think of a good way to finish it…
Super Show 6 - Henry and Zhou Mi
i’ve been having this thought since Super Show 6 started, and i didn’t wanna share it because everyone was very excited and ofc i didn’t wanna be a party pooper
How come Henry and ZhouMi don’t have the same privileges they had during Super Show 5??
what about the other songs? the intro ment? all ments?? cosplays??? vcrs??? Weren’t they involved in all of these during Super Show 5???
During SS5, they were involved in all of the MENTs, performed many songs with the members (such as Sunny, So I, Wonder Boy, How Am I Supposed to Live Without You), performed their solo songs, were in the VCRs, and also they cosplayed with the members as Goku and Woody…
While in SS6, they both just performed SWING, their solo songs, Fantastic and Blind, and that’s it..? Later on, they were FINALLY shown in the ending ment.
what about the intro MENTS? VCRs? the Elsa cosplays? other songs…?
Just the thought of SM using them just to fill up the stage since some members were in the military, just makes me so sad..
Henry in SS6: “I don’t have the confidence to invite friends and family to Super Show concert”
This is just so unfair.
The reason is because K-ELF were complete and total douchebags and wrote a petition protesting the amount of stagetime they got in SS5, which garned thousands of signatures, including a surprising number from Chinese and Japanese ELF. It makes me beyond infuriated that the K-ELF have this kind of power over SM Entertainment, because I was able to go to both SS5 and SS6 in Seoul and let me tell you, seeing HenMi in all of th VCRs and in the ending stages was the best damn part about that concert. We were so disappointed (I have a lot of friends who are Henry biased and/or Zhou Mi biased) to learn that they had a whole 10 minutes of stage time in SS6. I hope that we get more of them during SS7, if and when that ever comes to pass. Even SJ were so disappointed by the reaction, and I think that they feel like they don’t have the authority to stand up and say, “You know what? No. You’re wrong.” And that’s pathetic.
The silver lining in all this is, that even since this petition came out, Henry and Zhou Mi still got sapphire blue balloons for their solo promotion stages (Trap, Fantastic, and Rewind) during music shows. It’s one little fuck you to the bitches who are determined to ruin things for everyone else. I don’t have a grudge against all K-ELF, I’ve met some really great fans. But to be honest, by and large they act like the most entitled bunch of brats I’ve ever met. From Only13, then to this stupid ass petition, to turning their backs on Sungmin for making a mistake while ignoring Leeteuk and even making excuses for him when he did the exact same thing, to calling foreigners “cockroaches” (this I experienced first hand - at MuBank I was in the middle of a bunch of Koreans who were bitching about foreigners as though I couldn’t understand them), it almost makes me wish HenMi were never involved with SJ at all, if only to save them from the heartache of dealing with these toxic bitches. And you would think that they would have grown up by now considering it’s been ten years, but nope. Still bad.
I’m still proud to call myself an ELF. But I almost always attach I-ELF to it. I don’t want to be associated with the K-ELF.
i’m so proud that super junior won the tca’s choice international artist award–beating others like one direction– but what really bothers me is how only our fandom is acknowledging it. when just a few days ago people were talking about how “united” we all were and that “kpop fandom is a family” and voted for and defended any t-ara and queens from racist remarks because a “kpop won the award”, but when the same thing happens to super junior? nothing. in fact, they’re questioning our win.
like if you that isn’t an obvious indicator of how prejudiced the international fandom is to super junior, i don’t know what is.
yes to all of this. literally two seconds after it was announced that super junior won, all anyone could say was ‘wtf they were inactive, why were they nominated at all’ or ‘they’re not even teens’ (which, by the way, is absolutely ridiculous, sj is only a few years older than snsd and 2ne1 and they’re both 2nd gen idols, and yeah they’re not teens but fyi, you don’t have to be a teen to be nominated, teen choice just means the voting is done by the teens and tons of other people as old/older than sj win these awards) or ‘this is bullshit and obviously rigged - snsd won the twitter vote’ (which again, wasn’t the be all/end all of this vote, it was various sns platforms and the website too and there was no way to see the total number of votes before they told us the results, AND having the most tweets means nothing since only one tweet per account per day counted). it’s so damn annoying and the thing is, if sj had lost, sj would have still congratulated the winning group if it was a kpop group (bc they’re classy but also setting the example for fans in general) and even if they hadn’t, we would have done what those posts wanted, had pride that a kpop group won, and gave one direction their first loss in a teen choice award ever. we would have actually been united in the victory even though our group lost. but literally no one cares about sj and the rare congratulations i have seen have been halfhearted at best. and they’re acting like the award was relevant before but all of a sudden, now it’s irrelevant because super junior is irrelevant, but if super junior is irrelevant, then how did they win two tcas over every kpop group nominated and huge western acts? the hypocrisy is unreal.
it’s also hilarious (read: very very sad :/ ) to me that even though sj is receiving so much publicity in korea, not a single other person (other than the u.s. embassy) has congratulated them, not a single other kpop group or member, and not sm (publicly anyway), when sj tweets about other groups and those groups’ achievements all the time, especially if it was something that was in the news as much as this is in korea, and especially if it was a labelmate because they actually are that classy. but i’ve learned that for the amount sj promotes everyone else, it’s rare that anyone celebrates sj. i wouldn’t even be surprised if the reason korea is celebrating sj generally right now is because even if it’s sj, it’s still a kpop group, a south korean group, that won a tca in the u.s. and they’re the first (so it’s more national pride than sj pride). but anyway, sj would have had the class to congratulate the winner and we as a fandom would have followed. but no, ofc no one else, no group or fandom, is doing the same for us bc sj is ‘beyond problematic’ and every other group, nominated or not, is totally angelic and that’s just the way things are. :/
to be honest, i expected the hypocrisy. all those ‘we’re united, let’s make a kpop group win’ had sj tacked on at the very end, like ‘VOTE SNSD OR 2NE1 or i guess sj’ when sj was the first group nominated (since the international category was created bc of sj/elf) and the first listed on teen choice’s website. and then when people were talking about how, days before teen choice aired, that it was obviously snsd who won (literally everyone expected it and they were talking about it like this was officially announced) because they’re the most relevant. and it’s hilarious to me how these people use the korean digital charts to decide who is relevant globally, like melon is any indication of how large a fandom is (but ofc sj is too old and problematic and flopping to have fans, right? sold out asia world tour concerts and most sold full length albums and all come directly from the digital charts, right?) or how popular a group is.
and even though i imagine most people would still react this way regardless because they cling to any reason to hate sj, this is what i hate about how sm doesn’t promote sj or how the awards last year were bullshit because maybe if they knew that sj sold more albums last year than the groups nominated against them, they’d realize it’s a little… delusional to call them irrelevant.
none of those fandoms wanted unity - they wanted to win and maybe they’re not resorting to the racism 1d’s fans are because they can’t, but they’re still reacting nearly as badly as 1d fans and it’s ridiculous. if it’s such an irrelevant award then why are they so pressed and why won’t they just be happy for us/sj and move on with their lives? it’s like they were so content living in their ‘super junior has no fans and was never a threat to our idols and is now irrelevant and flopping hard’ bubble for so long that now that it’s been burst on a bit of a global scale, they can’t handle it.
For the record, SM did actually announce and congratulate Super Junior for the win in the Teen Choice Awards, and it’s not like there’s not a single person from Blackjacks/Queens/Sones who are congratulating SJ and ELF, because there are. But overwhelmingly, I agree with the statements made in these arguments. Super Junior spends so much time and energy promoting their hoobaes, and they get jack squat in return. It’s so, so wildly unfair.
The hypocrisy radiates from the groups who didn’t win the award. “ENJOY YOUR STUPID LITTLE AWARD IT’S NOT LIKE YOU ACTUALLY WON IT ANYWAY CHEATERS” If it’s such a “stupid little award” why are you so pissed that you didn’t win it?
are you on twitter because, look at the tweet in which the results were released. the only congratulations we got were from our own ELF themselves, with maybe one or two non-ELF congratulating us. in fact, you see more salty non-ELF, not naming which fandoms but you can infer, calling tca “rigged” or a “bad award show” because their favs didn’t win. hell, fans of other groups who weren;t even nominated were bashing super junior over their talent and looks.
i’m not going to argue with you if there were non-ELF who congratulated us or not. i was talking about fandoms; the majority of the fanbase. not one fandom truly congratulated us.
but that isn’t the point, i could care less if they congratulated us or not, if they voted for us or not. they didn’t but again, what i’m pointing out was that the whole “kpop fandom is a family” thing did not include super junior. the entire point of my post is to show the blatant exclusion. Super Junior and ELF triumphing over big names in an award show that we were at a disadvantage and taking back 2 wins for Kpop as a whole was not a cause for celebration because it’s super junior. if it were any other group, everything would be fine and dandy. we’ve seen it just a few days ago with t-ara and queens. if it were any other group, they’ll be more people calling western artistes’ fans on their racism and white supremist bullshit. it wasn’t just directioners coming at us, even little monsters were pissed off that elf won best fandom. and things got ugly, racist ugly.
only ELF defended Super Junior and defended our own fandom from racist remarks while the international kpop fandom, who literally just a few days ago were singing “kpop fandom is a family“, stayed mum.
see that? that’s the point, the international kpop fandom is prejudiced against super junior and this was just another example of that. this baseless hate on Super Junior is a long running issue that they refuse to acknowledge. It seems like ELF and Super Junior truly only have each other.
No, believe me, I agree with all of that, and I think it’s absolute, utter bullshit. By the non-ELF congratulations, I meant that when I was in the choice fandom tag on twitter (which, I am on twitter, btw!) I did see a handful of other people congratulating us on our win. By pointing them out I wasn’t trying to make the problem seem any less significant, only that there are some people amongst the other fandoms who do actually recognize Super Junior, for what it’s worth. Few and far between though they are, they’re out there, and it makes all of this (at least for me) the slightest bit more bearable. But not by a whole lot.
You’re absolutely right in that as whole, Super Junior and ELF are at the very bottom of the totem pole, and unrightfully so, because Super Junior has paved the way for kpop, not just in Korea but into the international market. Without Super Junior, all of these other kpop groups wouldn’t be half as successful as they are. It makes me so angry to see the prejudice against us, and for no other reason than that they need someone to hate, and it happens to be Super Junior. And it makes my blood boil to see not only the disgusting hate the western fandoms are throwing at us, but the sheer hypocrisy amongst the kpop fandom, international AND Korean. It’s just so unfair.
i’m so proud that super junior won the tca’s choice international artist award–beating others like one direction– but what really bothers me is how only our fandom is acknowledging it. when just a few days ago people were talking about how “united” we all were and that “kpop fandom is a family” and voted for and defended any t-ara and queens from racist remarks because a “kpop won the award”, but when the same thing happens to super junior? nothing. in fact, they’re questioning our win.

do you ever wish you could just WILL the head canon you have for a fic into words that you can share with everyone because fuck writing writing is hard
Things k-pop/k-culture fans should avoid
1. Eat Your Kimchi (Simon and Martina)
2. Chad Future
3. Justifying your idol’s racist, sexist or other discriminatory comments/ actions and labelling them as just ignorance
4. Bashing girls who interact ( breathe the same air)with your ‘oppa’
5. Bashing other groups/ being salty when your faces don’t win
6. Developing a ‘sasaeng complex
7. Babbling random Korean words to people who don’t even understand it or want to hear it.
8. Equating Korean culture as just K-pop
9. Perpetuating the image of international fans as wannabe Asians or Koreaboos
10. Insulting new fans who don’t know about every k-pop scandal, idol, song or back story and telling them they’re ‘not real fans’
I agree with everything on here except for #3, purely for the fact that racist comments, unintentional ones, are born from the fact that Korea (and Japan and China and most Asian nations for that matter) is NOT a racially diverse country and therefore don’t have the same ingrained idea of what is racist and what is not. Racism does exist here, but not in the same way that it does in western, more racially diverse nations. (For example, most of the racism here is aimed toward Southeast Asians and, ironically, North Korean defectors). It does not make those comments any less bad, but there has to be a certain understanding in that regards. Instead of pointing fingers and saying things like “OH MY GOD THAT WAS SO RACIST HOW COULD HE/SHE???”, take this into account, and hope that someone close to them is worldly enough to explain why it’s bad and they can correct it, and learn from it. (Because we know that none of our English comments are ever going to reach their eyes and ears and if, on the chance they do speak English ~fluently~, then yes, they probably do know better.)

On Sungmin Enlisting
I’M NOT ASKING FOR “AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER!”
I’M JUST ASKING FOR “AND THEY LIVED.”
my job is killing me.
i get screamed at, belittled, demeaned, insulted, lectured, even threatened on a regular basis. half of the people doing these things are ph.d degree holding professors and doctors. when people don't obey the parking laws and get cited for it, it's apparently the fault of myself and my coworkers. my managers tell us "don't take it personal" but it's hard when people make it personal. just recently someone told my coworker he hoped she went home and killed herself.
i easily spend twice as much time at the office than i do in a classroom, and because so much of my life is eaten up by my job i find that i'm exhausted, mentally and physically, by the time i get home. i have no motivation to do anything. i'm just going through the motions. school is stressing me out too, but i can 100% guarantee that i wouldn't be this hard off if it were only school work i had to do.
i am so glad to be leaving this job in just under a month.
