Van Heflin and Alan Ladd in "Shane" (1953, George Stevens). They became such good friends that, as Heflin's wife said, the time he learned about Ladd's death was one of the few occasions she ever saw her husband cry.
What an immortal image.
John Wayne. Monument Valley. The Searchers.
Norman or Saxon, what's that matter? It's injustice I hate, not the Normans.
- Robin Hood (Errol Flynn) in The Adventures of Robin Hood
Paul Verrall: Listen, I hate his life, what he does, what he stands for. Not him! He just doesn’t know any better.
Superb Performances. Great lines. Great movie.
The cast of Imitation of Life (1959, Douglas Sirk). A powerful riveting drama starring Lana Turner, Juanita Moore, John Gavin, Susan Kohner and Sandra Dee. Based on a Fannie Hurst movie and a remake from a previous film by John M. Stahl from 1934, this was Douglas Sirk last film in Hollywood. Nowadays, considered a masterpiece of one of the greatest filmmakers and one of my personal favorites.
The Petrified Forest (1936, Archie Mayo).
