The Major and the Minor premiered on a September 16th in New York back in 1942. Directed by the incomparable Billy Wilder, this was his first film in the USA. A delightful comedy with some of his most memorable subjects as a film maker, which were disguise, identity and parody of social conventions

I really like this movie and I think Ginger Rogers is simply terrific. She deeply enjoyed working with Wilder. She had won an Oscar two years before for her role in Kitty Foyle (1940, Sam Wood) and, despite being able to choose from any director she wanted, she decided to take a chance on Wilder. Results were perfect!

"Garbo laughs!" That was the famous tagline for the comedy "Ninotchka" (1939). A true Ernst Lubitsch masterpiece. I love her character and her dialogues. It's impossible not love Ninotschka in this revisited fairy tale, beautifully written by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder. This picture of Garbo and Lubitsch laughing is simply lovely.

To Donald O’Connor (28th Aug 1925 - 27th Sept 2003).

His role of Cosmo Brown and his brilliant performance for the song Make’Em Laugh almost outshines the iconic Gene Kelly’s Singing’ in the Rain number. Born into a vaudeville family, he began performing at an early age. He became a household name with his series Francis, about a soldier who befriends a talking mule. He appeared in many musicals, the most prominent ones were Singin’ in the Rain and There’s No Business Like Showbusiness with none other than Marilyn Monroe.

His dancing routines were often very physical and demanding such as Make’Em Laugh or his roller skates routine in I Love Melvin (two years before Gene Kelly in It’s Always Fair Weather!). He was very accomplished and, sadly, often underrated. He even played Buster Keaton in the non-factual The Buster Keaton Story.

To me, he is a beloved performer and one of my personal favorites.

Wherever you are Donald, I am sure you are making’em laugh.

Notorious premiered in New York on this date (August 15th) in 1946.

For many years this film was by far my absolute favorite. Something about the devious love affair between Devlin and Alicia and the magnetic presence of Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, really impressed me and left an indelible mark. I remember entire dialogues for, somehow, they have stuck with me for good. An amazing master piece, so electrifying, so twisted in its core and so real on so many levels. Its magic remains intact and it is every bit as thrilling to watch as it was when it was first release. Let’s celebrate today the NOTORIOUS DAY!

Remember? Nothing comes from nothing...

... And neither do these Love Cards and Wedding Invites designed and handcrafted for very special occasions. Inspired by Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer beautiful silhouettes from the song Something Good (one of my favorites), I created a minimalist papercut design for these elegant cards.
