Confederate POWs can be seen lined up for roll call in the first and third photographs as Union guards patrol the wall encircling the prison. All three photographs were taken from approximately the same location at different intervals of time as tents can be seen being replaced with barracks and variations in the amount of foliage can be observed.
Photograph said to show a group of former Confederate POWs shortly after their release from Elmira Prison in New York, 1865.
