Wardrum/Grove Street Games fucked it up even worse than the original 3D era mobile ports they were tasked with.
Fucked up graphics aside it was quickly discovered after it came out on PC that they had left some uncompiled files in the build that had dev notes in there dating back to San Andreas’s original development. Also left in the songs that they no longer have a license for but just disabled them via code from playing.
Then it came out that the Switch version was an absolute fucking treasure trove. They left in the tools needed to compile the code as well as a bunch of internal Rockstar documentation and potentially the source code? I’m not 100% sure on that one. Needless to say though, people are having a field day. It actually lead to the PC version getting cracked insanely quickly.
To top this all off: R*/T2 have been on the warpath against modders the past year. Threatening legal action and sending PIs to people’s houses. They’ve actually burned that bridge so thoroughly that Silent, the author of the Silent Patch for any 3D era R* game on PC, has said he’s not going to touch GTA DE. Given R*’s history with pumping and dumping their ports, this will never be fixed outside of them scraping out the files they didn’t want people to see.
EDIT:
Some things I forgot:
- It took Rockstar 24 hours to take the definitive edition down off their launcher.
- You can’t get refunds for it because of that (ACCC is gonna have a field day with that)
- Because it’s been removed off the launcher, you can’t play the game you paid for.
- Despite the fact that we have indications that they were handed a master build for all 3 games, San Andreas still has some of the broke ass shit from Wardrum’s first San Andreas port. The gym minigames are the big giveaway aside from mentions of widgets in the code.
- Hot Coffee has been found in the code but it’s just been disabled?
- Did I mention that people who paid for this trash fire on PC haven’t been able to play the game? Pirates can though lmaooooooo
