These is the first second you’re in control of your character in every numbered FINAL FANTASY main entry, from FINAL FANTASY in 1987 to FINAL FANTASY XV releasing later 2016 on November 29. From fields, to combat, cities, schools, darkness, to the open road. That first second of control can say a lot about the title’s aim as a whole.

I tried to present every game in its original form, including native resolution, pixel/aspect ratio and Japanese versions for games not released worldwide on the same date. The only exception was FINAL FANTASY XI for which I had to use the European PC version in order to get a good screenshot of the starting spot, since the PS2 servers are no longer online.

Note: Doing something a little different today. I wanted to show how much phone games have evolved in less than a decade by taking a look at what they look like when put next to their console counterparts.
