I didn’t have too many 2010 (Smartphone) screenshots to use so I omitted that version for the second and third comparison. There was also a 2009 mobile version released in Japan that was used as a stepping stone between the 1993 and 2010 version, featuring some of the redrawn graphics, but finding comparison shorts from it was also a challenge.

These is the first second you’re in control of your character in every numbered FINAL FANTASY main entry, from FINAL FANTASY in 1987 to FINAL FANTASY XV releasing later 2016 on November 29. From fields, to combat, cities, schools, darkness, to the open road. That first second of control can say a lot about the title’s aim as a whole.

I tried to present every game in its original form, including native resolution, pixel/aspect ratio and Japanese versions for games not released worldwide on the same date. The only exception was FINAL FANTASY XI for which I had to use the European PC version in order to get a good screenshot of the starting spot, since the PS2 servers are no longer online.

I tried to be kind to KOF14 here by picking the last polygon fighter in the series rather than one of the gorgeous sprite based ones.

Today the Umihara Kawase games returned to Steam after having been taken down after Agatsuma Entertaiment closed its doors in 2015. As such, I figured there was no better way to celebrate on this blog than to look at how the encounters with Tadpole has evolved over the years.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney / Gyakuten Saiban, 2001 - Developed by Capcom Ace Attorney 6 / Gyakuten Saiban 6, 2016 - Developed by Capcom

The original Ace Attorney games first released on Game Boy Advance in Japan before being ported to PC, Nintendo DS and so forth in 2001. So I wanted to have a good look at the game’s first finger pointing and latest finger pointing. After all, it’s the 15th Anniversary.
