recently came back to this piece and had to write down my thoughts.

zelda and link are eternally linked by angst and misfortune, literally.

i imagine pre calamity link being different than post calamity link bcs he did lose all his memories. memories and experiences make a person, so my hc is that he is and acts differently. now, zelda, how does she feel? looking at the face of her trusted knight, the one she shared so many memories with, the one she risked her life for, be a different person? does she accept the fact that her link will never return, and is instead replaced by a different link? or is she in denial? is link aware of this, and does he simply role with it for the comfort of his princess?

is their relationship but a thin thread, being held up by pretend and ignorance? questions over questions, but neither could ever abandon the other. they‘re the only ones they have left, after all.

so let me pretend to be the one you truly desire to have by your side. it will never be me, but I might one day turn into him.
