I love that Alice and Gwen are lowkey playing a game of chicken with each other rn to see who’s gonna mention the Horrors first

Like I don’t think they’re necessarily aware of what exactly is Going On with each other but there’s some kind of recognition that something is Not Right and idk what to do with that

when i tell you i was on the edge of my seat waiting for some gross body horror to make me gag like the last few episodes, only to hear Sam and Celia kiss, i just about busted a fucking lung

Been really enjoying how the Magnus Protocol has been playing with the idea of ✨️nostalgia✨️. Sam obsessing over the Magnus Institute, Alice wanting to rekindle her relationship with Sam, Celia looking into familiar names from TMA.  Even the monsters are a bit of a throwback - a mascot from a 90s TV show, a member of British aristocracy, [ERROR] with her cassette tapes.

And on a meta level - the listeners are playing into this nostalgia, too. The theories that Jon/Martin/Jonah are stuck in the computer. Our excitement at hearing familiar voices again. Trying to  assign the Smirke 14 to the O.I.A.R. cases...

The thing is - nostalgia is actually just  corrupting everyone. Sam's obsession is putting the O.I.A.R. crew in danger. Alice's attempts at reshaping their relationship to how it used to be is harming her current friendship with Sam. Celia's investigations just keep leading to dead ends.

And us, the listeners, our inclinations to apply the old lore from TMA to this new series...it might be causing us to miss some big clues in Protocol...

so yeah, I just think it's really cool how Magnus Protocol is playing with the dangers of nostalgia, especially considering it's a sequel!

Btw truly in love with the writers' choice to make Sam, the one who started out very soft and friendly, be also very rude and dismissive whereas Alice and Gwen, who are outwardly rude and dismissive, show themselves to be capable of vulnerability and genuine understanding under stress. I love you subversions of the character type who typically gets assigned "uwu soft" by fandom

I know the episode just dropped for most people but I can guarantee not enough people are talking about the fact that ALICE DID NOT DENY IT

Teddy said “you know it’s cool if you’re still in love with him” and she doesn’t deny it. Sarcastic Alice who jokes about everything, jokes about Sam being pathetic, and says she runs on spite and coffee and chaos generally makes jokes about not having feelings, DOES NOT DENY it

Thinking about how in the first episode Alice says “it isn’t too awkward working with an ex?” but in episode 6 Sam says “it’s the same place you hid things when we were students”, not “when we were dating”. Thinking about how Alice said “don’t you want Celia to go with you” and Sam said “we’re not there yet” and Alice said “are we?” and Sam says “We used to be.”
