Nothing more interesting to me than Terry Pratchett’s complicated relationship with Enjolras
No, hear me out: on the face of it, via the character of Reg Shoe, Terry Pratchett is telling us “Enjolras is ineffectual, naive and dangerous not to the government but only to himself and his compatriots, of course The People didn’t rise to his call when all the “activist work” he did was run around wearing a sash and shouting slogans at people who just wanted to go about their day. He had no idea how to actually organize a revolt, and thinking he could tell the working classes how to live better was the height of arrogance. He should have just gone home instead of getting all his friends killed” (and I agree with him)
But then on the other hand, Pratchett’s also like “The barricade boy literally conquers death with his fervor. Enjolras is undead now and still leading activist groups decades later, his spirit never broken. He’s still sort of ridiculous but he will also never die.” Like, good god. You can’t not love this type of person and the hope and idealism they represent, even when it’s ridiculous
Time for more Enjolras art 🇫🇷💥♥️
Debating on coloring or no….

My heart needed a smittenjolras. Also I I hadn’t drawn Combeferre in ages and that’s gotta be a crime.
The copy of Les Mis I just bought has Grantaire saying “alright with you?” Instead of “do you permit it?” and that’s just the funniest most casual shit like bro is it chill if I die by your side
This is actually much more accurate then “do you permit it?” in my opinion!!!
The original “permets-tu?” Is indeed very casual!! Grantaire uses the casual and familiar “tu” instead of the more formal, respectful “vous” and he asks his question in only two words, a rare thing in the French langage!!
Obviously “Do you permit it?” Is the most accurate translation in terms of what the words mean, but it absolutely does not match the tone of the original phrase!!! “Do you permit it?” Sounds so formal and it just has too many words!! The beauty of “permets-tu” also lies in the simplicity of the phrase and the fact that it sounds so casual and familiar! It’s a phrase you hear everyday without lending it much thought, just two words but suddenly it takes on a whole other meaning.
I personally think the best translation in terms of tone would be “may I?” because it really reflects how simple and casual the phrase is and keeps the essence of the question as well: Grantaire is asking Enjolras for his permission. Softly, simply, in a way that is personal and familiar.
“Permets-tu?” Is not a declaration of love, it isn’t a grand gesture, speech or demonstration for the national guard to witness and it isn’t caught up in formality or stiffness. It’s a simple question, said plainly and quickly, meant only for Enjolras to hear. It is a way for Grantaire to extend an offer of comfort, of warmth and of love that is only for the two of them in those final moments.
Sorry if I got a bit poetic there but I have a lot of feelings about this!!!! Obviously I’m not an expert, but I’ve been fluent in French and English since I was 5 and I speak them both on a daily basis, so I like to think I might a worthwhile perspective on the matter!!

Victor Hugo - Les Misérables
Most people in this fandom know exactly three lines from Euripides (Anne Carson trans.):
Pylades: I’ll take care of you.
Orestes: It’s rotten work.
Pylades: Not to me. Not if it’s you.
Now, this is all well and good for understanding Vicky’s parallelism with Orestes & Pylades, Achilles & Patroclus, and Enjolras & Grantaire and explains the dynamic well enough,
if we evaluate it in context, we find the good kush.
Background: A council is deciding if Orestes will be stoned to death, and things aren’t looking good for him. He and Pylades have just decided to run away together.
Orestes: Beware the contagion of madness.
Enjolras: If you join me, you will die.
Pylades: Come on.
Grantaire: Viva la Republique, I am one of them.
Orestes: You won’t shrink back?
Enjolras:
Pylades: A friend does not shrink back.
Grantaire:
Orestes: Then let’s go.
Pylades: Let’s go.
Enjolras & Grantaire:
Hello, you’ve reached Grantaire- if you meant to call me, leave your name and number, and if this is an accident, it’s fine, it happens, just never mention it again, if this is Enjolras, I love you. And also, I’ve embarrassed you on my voicemail, and there is nothing you can do. There will be a beep. That’s your cue. (x)
Je t’aime.
i just have a lot of feelings okay
happy (not so happy) barricade day!
here is a short drawing/comic I drew and then redid completely in less than a day based off the poem révolutionnaire by @brotticelli
this is a very Old drawing i did from when i saw the les mis tour. but i really liked how they staged empty chairs at empty tables- ending with each one blowing out their candles except marius.
Some long haired Enjolras because I felt the urge
