GQ Meets Milex Fanfiction:

Let me set the scene: sometime between Axl Rose getting braids (2002) and People Just Do Nothing jumping the shark (right now), those brothers in melodic yarns Turner and Kane, plus “another human being” – let’s call her “The Girl”, shall we, to save her poor mother’s heart condition? – are intertwined among the postcoital flotsam of an upmarket hotel room.

As threesomes go it was distinctly melodious: grins abound, joints are passed (maybe, or is that just a rollie?), sighs are breathlessly murmured and no one’s Cava breath is so metallic as to put anyone off thinking about not visiting said messy pleasure palace yet again.

“Hey, I’m glad you came,” Turner is alleged to have said, forever on the right side of etiquette and politeness in such matters. While Kane, in his sludgy Scouser lilt acknowledged, “Ah, thanks, man.” At which point Turner sat bolt upright in his sparkly gold briefs (unconfirmed) to stress who, in fact, his grateful aside was aimed at: “Not you, you wally. Her!”

Alex has a girlfriend.

Alex always has a girlfriend. He’s never single two minutes before he finds another bird to fall head over heels for. Miles is bitter, so he considers it a defense mechanism. It’s unkind of him, he knows, and unkind to the birds in question, who are almost always charming and sweet and, if nothing else, good to Alex. But still he thinks it. It’s Alex’s defense against him. Against wanting him.

Because Alex does want him. It’s there in the way his gaze lingers, the way he touches Miles, almost reverently. It’s there in the way he smiles- and Miles has noticed that he has this one smile, special and bright, that he saves just for Miles. It’s their smile. Miles always plays nice with Alex’s girlfriends, shakes their delicate hands and turns on the friendly charm, but inside he’s thinking, he never smiles at you that way. He wonders if they notice or if they refuse to notice. He wonders if they care.

If you get Alex drunk enough, he’ll actually admit it sometimes. Only to Miles, only with a whisper or a kiss in a darkened corner. But the next day it’s always the same. Alex will refuse to acknowledge it. His silence will say, what happened doesn’t change anything.

And Miles, bitter and jealous and hopeless and helpless, will let him get away with it.

I don't understand why the tours were so short. There were so many hiatus months between tour legs. With AM they were on tour for 18 months. I know they were getting established the US but, with TBHC they are a more established band, so, why weren't there more shows? Maybe because the record got mixed reviews? Also, I thought there would be more interviews and stuff. It was really weird. Alex was so proud and then so uninterested. Why. This record was so important to him but then this...

I don’t understand it either. There were so many hiatuses, and granted, three of the guys have small children at home this time around, but still. I really thought we’d see this album touring for at least a year and a half, especially with the concept!! And after they’d been gone for so long!! I thought there would be so much more of everything. At the beginning, he was so proud of this album; talking about the experience of making and recording it. The guy built a god damn model of a hotel for most of 2017 lol. There’s so much love and dedication that went into it, and now he seems like he could care less. At first I thought that maybe like SIAS (which was largely written about Alexa imo) which doesn’t get any kind of love now, maybe the themes of TBH&C remind him too much of his relationship with TB? But let’s be honest, there’s really only one or two songs for her on there, and it was largely dedicated to her dog. Even the march. Is that it? Is that the reason why he’s completely disowned it? Will we ever find out? I mean everything about this tour was inconsistent. The stage design that apparently Alex created that we only saw for like a quarter of the shows.The aesthetic. The music videos. The interviews. All of that footage they recorded and never used. The setlist. Jesus. The only two constants during this entire era was Nick’s aesthetic which never faltered from that 70s vibe, and the gig posters. The gig posters at least gave us a taste of the world we wanted to explore and get lost in on the moon.

I just never fathomed the tour wouldn't have more legs. We've gotten spoiled like that here in the US and things have come a long way since back in 2009 when I was happy to see them at ANY show, and was willing to drive ANYWHERE because I wasn't sure if I'd ever get to see them again. I made it to 5 shows this go round, assuming there would be a second leg... an all time tour low for me. If I had only known I would've gotten more wild and traversed to some farther flung spots. So this is a surprise, but I suppose only they know how the tickets are selling and whether it would be worth it to continue on. It does seem unnecessarily short, but maybe their age and family commitments have something to do with it. IDK, that doesn't ring true to me. I'm at a loss, but at least I'm happy to see them ending the tour on a very happy note. They are good with fans which I think is great to see, and were spectacularly appreciated by the South American crowds. I guess they want to end on a high note.
