Chicago PD | Working my way through Chicago Fire

Summary:

"Hank Voight and the Crackhead Detective" was the story that started it all. Now comes a mini sequel, giving a little more insight into the life of the "crackhead detective" Katelyn Meyers as she carries out her latest antic: caffeine overload.

Katelyn has taken it upon herself to consume too much caffeine to mess with Hank Voight and to punish her boyfriend, Adam Ruzek. As she's bouncing off the walls, they try multiple ways to calm her down, but after consuming too much caffeine, they were at the point of no return. Will Halstead is called in to spectate, simply making sure she got medical care if she keeled over. The three of them, plus Katelyn's canine partner, Maxwell, follow her as she runs around the city to get the energy out... Will she ever come off this caffeine high, or will she forever be known in Chicago as the Caffeine-Crazed Cop?

Hank Voight and the Caffeine-Crazed Cop

For anyone who loved Hank Voight and the Crackhead Detective, I am proud to announce that a mini-sequel is in the works: Hank Voight and the Caffeine-Crazed Cop.

Of course, we already have Beyond the Badges, which shows the story of how Kate’s fate intertwines with those from Chicago PD, but HVATCCC is part of that… and a mini-sequel to HVATCD! It’s meant to be silly, fun, and downright hilarious as this time Katelyn tortures not only Sergeant Voight, but Adam Ruzek as well.

As a sneak peek, Katelyn consumes way too much caffeine (don’t try this at home) with energy drinks, energy shots, instant coffee and pre-workout all on the menu. She has five thermoses of this concoction, which she drinks in intervals throughout the day.

The entire story spans about three days, and then some as Kate crashes and must recover. Does she regret it? You’ll have to read to find out. :)

If you’re curious and want to read the story that started it all, HVATCD, you can find it on AO3 here:

The new story, HVATCCC, will be posted soon! :) I can’t wait to share it with you.

If you haven't read "Hank Voight and the Crackhead Detective," now is the time to jump into this series from the beginning - Follow Hank, Trudy, Al and their misadventures from their academy and beat days. Then, see how their lives intertwine with that of Katelyn Meyers, leading up to the story that started it all, as well as the fate of these characters after that story ends. :)

One of the Debate I skip inside One Chicago

Erin Lindsay vs Hailey Upton

I don't have time, usually I just listen oh Hailey steal everything from Erin, the spot, the boyfriend and with the 11 season the daughter arc with Voight...we should really be aware that in the more seasons a TV show has, the more repeat plots happens. And by the way I truly missing somethings from the prior PD

I like both girls! End of history

I agree. I have things I like and dislike about them both but they were good characters in general. The feuding is crazy between Linstead and Upstead. I haven’t seen it firsthand, only seen people complain about it, but the way it sounds, it sounds crazy. I liked them both.

Relationships come and go. Just because Jay was going to marry Erin first doesn’t mean she was the best. And just because he married Hailey doesn’t mean she was the best either. I mean, I’m watching through Chicago Fire right now and the amount of people who marry each other or sleep with each other is crazy. I mean, look at Matt Casey and Kelly Severide. Kelly’s been married at least twice, same with Casey. And have had many other relationships as well. (For the drama, of course.)

That’s why I tend to like PD better. Less who’s-with-who drama, more of their jobs (maybe it’s because it’s a smaller group of people who are further in age from each other). I dunno, I guess sorry for my ranting but either way, I like both Hailey and Erin in their own ways and I won’t say one is better than the other.

If you liked Hank Voight and The Crackhead Detective, now comes a little Oneshot complication exploring Kate’s life and those around her

Her past, present, and future with all of the characters.

Explore her past before she met Adam and the Intelligence Unit.

Explore the present, where she is working with the Intelligence Unit and including her promotion.

Explore her future and the fate of the characters around her, including Hank Voight.

Credit to my co-creators @andgry4 and @creativeimagination206 - I love you both so much. Thank you for always supporting this story and the universe we have created and developed together. It’s my favorite thing on this earth. 🩵🩵✨✨

Everyone: We don’t approve of Voight’s methods/background dealings, so we will try to catch him and have him fired/arrested.😑

Voight: ….

Everyone when they’re in trouble: Hey Hank … I need your help.

Voight: Say no more, here’s what we’re going to do.

Exactly! The double standard is terrible… it’s like this with the fans too… Hank Voight brings Justice, even if it’s not the politically “correct” way. Every episode, someone needs help, whether it is a victim or another character or someone else, and Hank helps them whenever he can, however he can, even crossing the line to help people. It’s might not be “politically correct,” but generally it is morally correct or justifiable. He doesn’t conform to societal standards and I like that about him.

He has conformed more in the later seasons and it has made his character dry and old like all those in the ivory tower. Seasons 1-4 were prime. Seasons 5 and 6 were pretty good, especially with Antonio. After season 7, things went horrible and it’s just sad to see such a beautiful, complex character burdened by this world’s “political correctness” just to please one side of the aisle… :/

I tend to hang on to the quote from Season 8 Episode 1 from Hank… “Am I not woke enough for you?! Then get the hell out of my unit!”

Hank was a complex character. Please make him complex again. It has been horrible and dry and I think that’s why the show declined (plus the beloved characters leaving, Antonio, Jay, Erin, Hailey, Alvin, etc…)

Chicago PD Upstead (Unpopular Opinion)

I watched my first clear-cut Upstead moment on 6x15 and I... hated it. It was such an awkward exchange. It made me cringe a little bit. And I know it was meant to be profound and sweet, and about their foundation of trust but it was just...lackluster.

I know the couple is a fan favorite and I want to give it a chance. So, please tell me they get more chemistry as they build the relationship or this is going to be really hard to watch. Which is a shame because two things that I love watching most are Jay with kids and him in relationships.

And am I the only one who thinks Adam and Haliey have way more chemistry? I know they break up but I'm dreading it. I actually like them together- the dynamic is fun and interesting.

*Me trying not to add comments about my few found love for the Burgstead pairing and the missed opportunity*

I don’t ever remember being struck by any kind of magic in their relationship, so personally, I don’t think they get any more chemistry. 🤷‍♀️

Chicago PD loves killing of my favorite characters, huh. I'm only 2 seasons in and already 2 characters I loved are dead.

Hah… Haha… Just don’t get attached to too many characters. The tragedy is too real. Some stick around longer than others but… Hah.

Oh you know..

Stydia (Obviously)

Burzek (like come on... too long)

Booth and Brennan (killed me how long it took)

Nick and Jess (time it took them to get back together)

Shules (happened 5 seasons too late)

Just to name a few..

Not to mention however long it took Hailey and Jay to get together. I think it was at least 3 seasons, right?

when are they going to have ASA chapman and voight get together??? he needs some happiness

Hank does deserve to be happy - but I don’t think ASA Chapman would be a good fit. He deserves to find someone who won’t go over his head at the drop of a dime. She is not ride or die - she will absolutely destroy him first chance she gets if given the choice.

Hank needs to find someone - perhaps even a civilian - who he can develop a relationship with OUTSIDE OF WORK. His job is his life, I know, but it has been for too long. Six years after Camille died plus another, what, 9-10 years after that? So it’s been 16 years since she died, give or take, and his job is all he has left. Literally.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again - Hank Voight has lost everything and everyone he cares about. A stillborn daughter, his father was killed in the line of duty, his mother is never mentioned so is absent at best or dead at worst, his wife died of cancer and had a crooked doctor too, Justin was murdered, Erin has left him and has not been seen again, Olive then promptly took his grandson Daniel so he can’t see them on a regular basis or at all, Alvin was murdered, Antonio left and hasn’t been heard from again, Jay left and hasn’t been heard from again, Jin was murdered, Jules was murdered, (curse of the “J” names, I guess), Anna Avalos died, Lexi (I think that was her name) the CI died, and if we really take the father/daughter angle of their relationship then he just lost Hailey too!

The only people Hank has left from the OGs are Trudy, Kevin, Kim, and Adam. Of course, none of these would be a love interest, for multiple reasons, but I’d really like to see Hank get a love interest from outside the police force. Since he doesn’t do a lot of dirty stuff anymore and has mellowed out, I’d like to see him come home to a woman who will take care of him and love him for who he is. He has made many past mistakes, but haven’t we all? Nobody deserves it more than Hank Voight. And ASA Chapman just isn’t going to be it for him. She will betray him if it means saving her own job, and I know that’s true, 100%. He needs someone outside of the police force at best (or a sergeant from another district at worst). Either way, he can’t date anyone he directly works with. He just can’t. If he and Chapman get together and settle down long-term, I just… I can’t see it. The whole thing will be ruined if that’s the case. End of story. 🤷‍♀️

If season 12 ends up being the last season, I’d like to see Hank meet someone, and slowly transition the role of Sergeant to someone like Adam, who’s been set up since literally season 1 to take intelligence. If not, then Trudy (but she’s not a good fit for it, simply because she wouldn’t like it as much as Patrol). Adam should be the one to take intelligence if Hank retires, and that is a hill I am willing to absolutely die on.

The Chicago Pdd finale wasn't terrible.

It was a send-off for Hailey more than anything else. Which...if you think about it...it's still very much in character for the show, but we've seen better send offs, lol.

I liked that Voight continued to show how much his team means to him. The serial killer wanted Hailey, Voight was determined to protect her.

Voight being ready to die but then AL SHOWING UP AND TELLING HIM ITS NOT HIS TIME YET HAD ME TEARING UP 😭

I like that Hailey chose herself in the end. I like that she knew she wanted to leave Chicago, but she still had a lot to learn about herself & what she really wanted. Voight reassuring her that she deserves good things & that while she's used to the bad, she has good still waiting for her in Chicago...i.e., Voight & the rest of the team, that was a sweet touch.

I also LOVED how the writers had her say that it wasn't Voight that "ruined her," & she realized that her upbringing played a major part in her adulthood. It was great hearing her say that she didn't want to continue to let her past dictate her future.

On that note...I TOLD Y'ALL THEY MADE HAILEY AN ERIN LINDSAY 2.0!

Everything that Hailey got was all a rewrite of Erin. The traumatic upbringing, the team being her family, Hank being her father figure, leaving Chicago for a new opportunity, MARRYING (and divorcing) Jay Halstead...

BUT I do like Hailey's outcome a little better than the way Erin's was. Erin HAD to leave to protect the only family she knew; her mom.

Hailey CHOSE to leave for something new for herself.

It's progress for her & that's great.

Looking forward to next season & I'm hoping we'll get more for our team, especially the main 3 with Kevin, Kim, and Adam

An excellent take on the finale.

How we are with this season finale of Chicago pd...

What the future hold??

I have *so* many feelings post-finale! 😅

My thoughts are below the cut so, for those of you who haven't seen it yet, there are spoilers below.

This is the best take I’ve seen on the finale thus far. I agree with every bit of this. Thank you for being sensible!! You took the words right out of my own brain and made them sound good!

Hank Voight is the core & the anchor of this unit True, the team formed strong bonds between them romantically and friendships, but it was always Voight who they looked up to and relay on many times. The bond they all formed with Voight was different but none was built on force or abuse.

Finally, someone said it. Thank you.

Okay but are we all just gonna forget the fact that Noah existed?

Like I get the whole drama with Hailey leaving and Voight almost dying but like… let’s remember for a second how much Voight cared for Noah. Let’s not overlook the fact that Voight got justice for Noah in the end too, and the fact that it wasn’t addressed at all is extremely upsetting.

I get it’s daytime TV and all and there are Rules, but can we stop perpetuating the “bury your gays” trope and actually have an openly queer character that survives in this franchise?

I’m glad I was able to see the season finale, but let’s not forget where the season started.

Okay, but THIS.

People are upset that this season wasn’t enough about Hailey. But as someone who doesn’t STAN the character, this season was all about her - period. There were some one-off episodes another the other characters and the two about Voight and Noah. And then Noah died and that was the end of it. I was pissed he died too. It would’ve been so good for Hank.

But moreover, this ENTIRE SEASON was about Hailey. From the divorce to her new apartment and then her being set up to take intelligence, and then growing even closer to Voight, and then this entire episode being FAN SERVICE TO HER.

Where is the justice for Hank and Noah? Hank is literally the main character of the show and has been since the beginning. Why aren’t we seeing more of him and his story? And, by the way, if he had died in this episode, it would’ve been POETIC. As much as I don’t want Hank to die, I would’ve been okay with it this episode. He would’ve died doing the one thing he loves - being police. He was trying to catch the serial killer. He was captured. He refused to call Hailey or anyone in his unit because he is doing what he said from day one. He is protecting them. “Tell me the truth so I can lie for you.” That’s his whole character. It would’ve been poetic and if they give him a shit ending later on, I will be upset.

But back to OP, YES NOAH DESERVED BETTER, and so did Mouse btw…
