im really bored it's like 7am so i went to read some smaus (the ones where theyre texting) for fun and im so confused why do all of them depict him as like... savage and talkative.... in my head he has always been my soft and quiet wise guy... every one of them fics is a he would not say that moment for me and i need to know if i am the one who needs to rewatch jjk0 and brush up on my knowledge of him or if he would actually not say "duuuuuuuuuuude" in text
😂😂 idk like....my fave fic he's a bit of a snarky little shit, but it's not excessive?? I feel like a lot of smaus mischaracterize everyone tbh, and yeah, every one I've seen goes very far in that direction for inumaki. which 🤷🏽♀️ it can be funny so i can suspend my disbelief for like 5 minutes but yeah no he would not say that lol
I'm also not a fan of the "x reader" genre in general though. Not really for me, the characters always feel weird to me in those fics and drabbles.
I think there's a few directions you could go with his character for sure, he definitely likes to fuck around with Panda and play pranks, he's not really quiet he actually communicates a lot for someone who can't actually say words most of the time. He's also shown to be caring and thoughtful and observant. He's confident, he's protective. I dunno I feel like I can see so many interpretations of his "voice" in writing available since he doesn't have a distinct written voice in canon.
However he *does* have characterization, and that can still absolutely be off and pretty much always is in smaus on tumblr, imo.

i’d like to preface that i also am not a fan of x readers, and i just do not even attempt it sorry ): character dynamics are my favorite and i feel like x readers don’t really hit that for me
texting for characters is more hit or miss for me because i feel like the characterization is just always slightly off. after gege said that toge was a troll, i think everyone latched onto that bit and just took it to the extreme. i’ve said before that i don’t see him as overtly a troll, more as he’s subtle with it. in fact, i see panda as more of an instigator than toge.
some examples of toge trolling include:
• being stopped by a civilian asking for directions, proceeding to try and direct them in his onigiri ingredients
• trying to cheer nobara up, calling her humbleness creepy, nobara observes that his high spirits caused him to get carried away
• communicating to children in only onigiri ingredients and ending up with then mimicking his language
• peeling fruit into bunny shapes for megumi with panda
• wearing maki’s skirt, to which she’s not even shown to care about, and not even making fun of it, he’s just wearing a skirt just because
• playing tag with panda and chasing him around the beach
compared to panda:
• asking yuuta his preferred chest size and immediately teasing maki with it
• proceeding to battle maki in the most dramatic way possible
• if the word favorite is in a sentence your answer has to be panda or he will literally hunt you down
• pretended not to understand human language because todo was being annoying, also said he would start screaming no
• races the first-years and has way too much fun throwing them in the air to which toge came in to catch them
• joined in with nobara in taunting momo, he really likes taunting people omg, and also falls to play dead
i might have missed a few but to me, panda is definitely the instigator of the group.
to me, i feel like we neglect the emotional intelligence it takes for a child to willfully and completely silence themselves, and still show an extreme amount of empathy for the people around them.
how this translates to texting, i actually don’t think toge is a huge texter. he’s shown in canon to have a preference for speaking, even if no one else can understand him. so it’s hard to translate that to texting. i actually think he and the other second years are so used to translating for him that the same habits translate to texting. it’s kind of like if you gave him the ability to speak, jumping right in and being a chatterbox doesn’t really feel likely. but if i had to guess some texting habits ?
- Toge assigns the nicknames in the group, changes them randomly without saying anything or mentioning anything, sometimes in the middle of his messages
- Types in all lower cases, does not have spell check on and probably has a lot of typos but he refuses to turn it on
- Sends multiple messages but also mutes the group chat so he won’t get notifications in the middle of gaming
- He doesn’t go to sleep without turning his notifications on though, just in case.
- Uses custom emojis + reaction images the most and very rarely kaomojis, he refuses to use the default phone ones
- More than likely learned a lot of texting tones from social media and youtube.
- He probably didn’t get a phone until he was enrolled in school, he also didn’t have anyone to text until he met the other second years.
- Toge probably started pretty subdued with shortish messages and nothing but text, still all lowercase and no punctuation lol but the longer he got to know them, the more relaxed he got

But seriously, I think you hit the nail on the head. He's not less communicative because he doesn't use normal words. He's very expressive, he speaks up often, even around people who won't understand him, and he's really intentional with communicating in non-traditional ways (ex. on the mission with yuuta in 0).
But I also love that you made it so he communicates similarly in text as he does out loud. That's really a stroke of genius to me! Because he's developed this style of communication and has been practicing it for so long (since he was a child, I assume? I don't know his whole background), that it makes sense that it would become a more natural and inherent way for him to talk than to pick up a completely different communication style.
(this got me curious on how Deaf people text & if there's different styles out there based on alternate communication styles. I found some stuff googling but not a whole lot. sounds like the answer is sometimes + fuck Alexander Graham Bell!)

ok but why did i start planning a chat fic last night and accidentally invented an entire parallel canon universe with stsg fix it elements???? I haven't even read far enough in canon to know this much about jujutsu society yet here i am. reforming it.
trying desperately to remember my daydreaming-to-fall-asleep dialogues i made up last night cause they were peak but i can't quite recreate them 😭
So I think it turns out I've been writing the prequel? to the chat fic? the silly chat fic I haven't written yet. some highlights from my notes:
Trying to figure out the world building:
- lmao what if it's more like mob psycho 100?
- so how many of these reforms were in place before and how many are because of what happened to geto? what did happen to geto?
- WHAT WOULD CHANGE FOR JUNPEI?????????????
- also, they're wrong about the race science and bloodline shit. you can learn techniques and the idea that you can't is a big fucking lie. I mean, Yuuta did it. "that's his technique" oh yeah, where'd he learn that, huh??
- who is doing research? there are a couple universities with jujutsu studies departments, but it's treated in larger society as a science that isn't fully understood or accepted yet. i can't think of an equivalent ... general public doesn't really know about it, doesn't understand it, or doesn't believe in it. Like queer studies, then, maybe??? something like that*
(*oops I kinda turned all of Jujutsu society into a queer allegory??? my baaaadd)
Trying to figure out what happened to Geto:
- the star plasma incident happened. geto had his lil breakdown (did a bunch of murders????)
- gojo uses yuuta as bait maybe? lmao jfc he would though.
- why did gojo even kill geto? because they wanted to stop him and so gojo had to kill him....??? why the fuck would he do that????
- is shoko going to basically do treason?
- geto is imprisoned - his family is not gonna take well to that...
- torture dungeon mind games?

But seriously, I think you hit the nail on the head. He's not less communicative because he doesn't use normal words. He's very expressive, he speaks up often, even around people who won't understand him, and he's really intentional with communicating in non-traditional ways (ex. on the mission with yuuta in 0).
But I also love that you made it so he communicates similarly in text as he does out loud. That's really a stroke of genius to me! Because he's developed this style of communication and has been practicing it for so long (since he was a child, I assume? I don't know his whole background), that it makes sense that it would become a more natural and inherent way for him to talk than to pick up a completely different communication style.
(this got me curious on how Deaf people text & if there's different styles out there based on alternate communication styles. I found some stuff googling but not a whole lot. sounds like the answer is sometimes + fuck Alexander Graham Bell!)
