Hardy invites Hannah to his hometown for his best mate’s wedding and to meet his family. She expects to meet a typical blue-collar, Glaswegian family not wealthy aristocrats living in a centuries-old castles. They disapprove of Hardy’s divorce and even more so of his new, younger girlfriend. As conflict boils up and paparazzi start hounding the couple, the best place to escape is up in the mountains surrounding the estate.

“Why did you become a police officer when you had all this?”

“I suppose I wanted to do something more meaningful with my life.”

He shrugs, and she wonders how he can be so humble given his upbringing but mostly all that he has achieved as a D.I. Her heart swells with love for him.

“You’ve never made me feel like I was beneath you… but they’ll find out I used to be an escort and they won’t like it.”

“Not as much as the fact that you’re English.”

Hardy gets transfixed by it so he keeps going out to the beach and staring out at the ocean knowing he won’t see her again. Hannah keeps swimming to the spot where she saw him because all the loneliness and grief in his eyes stuck with her. She knows it’s forbidden because humans destroy the oceans and he knows nobody will ever believe him. He thinks maybe he imagined it, his new meds getting to him. She says sod the rules and starts the impossible task of looking for the lonely scruffy human. Against all odds she finds him sitting on the docks of his little boathouse. She sends his broken heart racing because holy shit she’s real. 

And then like. Star crossed lovers and whatnot. But somehow it has to work out in the end bc only happy endings are allowed XD 

I just. I NEED IT.
