To me it's like this. Word of god only counts when I like it. When it's bs (such as what you mentioned from rtd) I change my approach to "a tweet is not a valid source anyway" lol
Ha, exactly! (re: the tags on this post.) The whole relationship of canon and outside material to fandom and shipping and fic is really interesting to me. I could ramble on and on! :P (Can inspire, fuel the fire, make it last forever, make it fizzle, kill it dead...)
And I think in a similar way to that post, “Word of God” can have different levels. So, behind the scenes footage of RTD and Julie, et al, explaining choices made that bolster and enrich what we see on the screen is pretty weighty. Thus the reason the bts material for Doomsday or that incredibly shippy DW Confidential they did in series 1 is like:
But then the Confidential for G*TF is so extra infuriating for the same reason - not only does all that shit happen on the screen, but then there they are explaining how much they really meant to do that... 😒😒
A tweet about a silly idea that lived only in RTD’s head (I was referring to the one about Wilf being a descendent of Mm DPomp) and has no textual evidence whatsoever really doesn’t have any weight! (Also his tone is cheeky, so I think there’s no reason for anyone to take it seriously.) If it were a tweet I liked or made me laugh or whatever, I’d of course be plastering it all over my blog like gospel haha, but really falls in the category of lighthearted fannish things.
