Do you ever think about the fact that even in the aftermath of the horror that was the Undertaking and the shock of Tommy’s unexpected death, even in the face of bereavement and devastation at what had happened, Oliver was thinking of people other than himself?

Do you ever think about the fact that, despite his own grief and trauma, and knowing that he was going to be leaving for a very long time, he thought of Diggle and Felicity and made arrangements to make sure they would be taken care of?

Do you ever think about the fact that Oliver gave his two new friends one million dollars each as a parting gift, not only to ensure their financial security, but also to make sure that they would never want for anything again, that they would be taken care of and as a token of his gratitude for their friendship and support over the previous year?

Who gives someone they’ve known barely nine months one million dollars as a gift?

Oliver Queen does.

Because he cares so much, so deeply, and he’s so grateful to anyone who even gives him the light of day, because he’s been through so much and had so little care and attention thrown his way, that anyone who is important to him is treated like a most precious jewel, to be loved and cherished and admired.

In that moment, despite being wrapped up in his own (very valid) issues, desperate to escape his terrible situation, he thought of John Diggle and Felicity Smoak, his friends, and made sure they knew he wasn’t leaving them in the dust after all they’d done for him.

It was his way of saying thank you, I appreciate you, you’re important to me, and I’m sorry I have to leave.

Oliver Queen, man. There ain’t anyone like him. If only we were all that pure and good at heart.

Well if we are going to jump on the feels train this morning let’s just go all out: Do we ever stop to think that Oliver left his friends a million dollars thinking that would be enough. That money would make up for his absence in their life. And that those friends ended up using the money he left them to track him down and fly to Hell Island and come get him. Because, no Oliver, your friends need YOU. And how reassuring that had to be. How validating. He’d been sure he brought his loved ones nothing but pain and misery, but his friends had been miserable WITHOUT him. His friends needed him. His city needed him. I imagine that Oliver fully expected to leave his money and slip quietly into the night. He expected to be forgotten. But that didn’t happen. And with that, Oliver started to have a sliver of a thought. What if I can be something better. What if I can be more than a murderer. More than a villain. More than an antihero. What if… @acheaptrickandacheesyoneline @dettiot

So when Oliver tells Felicity

He really means it because it means that THEY CARE ABOUT HIM. That despite the money he gave them, despite his surly attitude, despite the fact that he failed his city, they still care about him.

And that’s worth more than all the money in the world to Oliver.

And not just after this. Even after they were a team for so many months, that moment in Season 2 when he loses the company, and feels like he’s failed his team, his family, everyone…

After Thea and Roy tell him to his face how they believed in him and how he failed them, he comes down to the foundry, genuinely expecting everyone else to have abandoned him… like he’s always been left alone.

And finding these two there, his face, god this face…

he gets stunned and overwhelmed because Felicity and Digg are still there… still with him…

They’ve seen him at his worst and not only choose to stay, but trust him with their lives and their team, and fight together with him..

And he’s never, ever had that before.

This time when he runs after his mother’s death, he’s not at all surprised when Dig and Felicity find him. Deep in his heart, he knew they would.

And when all the world is against him, they both reiterate the only things that could have pulled him back from the edge…

That he’s not alone, not as long as they’re alive. They always have his back and for Oliver, that’s so, so precious.

And that is exactly the reason he finds the strength to fight and keep on fighting,

why he’d lay down his life for them in a heartbeat, no questions asked…

Now he is neither alone and has two people believe in him so completely….

He’s never been believed in.

Just imagine what it means to this man…

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PEOPLE.

“You know, the big story of who Oliver Queen becomes: The Vigilante, The Arrow, and then Green Arrow - it’s a big story, there are a lot of places we will go in how we tell that story. The Arrow Cave will get fuller, and it will get emptier, but the core team will always remain intact. It’s what has saved Oliver’s life; without Diggle and Felicity, we wouldn’t have Oliver where he is emotionally or as a superhero at this point.” - David Ramsey
