Lilia Facts Part 27: Pop Music Club (pt1)
We see an early meeting of the Pop Music Club in a vignette where Lilia, Cater and Kalim—the club’s only members—all want to become the band’s lead singer.
Lilia suggests that they compete by seeing who can score the most points on a karaoke app, but the Briar Valley lullaby he wishes to sing is not available.
Lilia then suggests that they decide via rock, paper, scissors.
Despite winning, Lilia decides that he would rather play bass or drums.
Cater asks why Lilia competed for the lead singer position at all and Lilia explains that lead singer “was a position everyone wanted, so I couldn't very well let it be without winning it for myself.”
Cater recommends that he be lead guitarist and singer and Lilia responds, “According to my research, it is either the bass player or the drummer who most commonly leads a band. Besides which, I find the idea of a role that is impressive yet restrained rather agreeable.”
Lilia decides that Cater shall be their lead singer, he will teach Kalim how to play the drums and then be on bass himself, thus making him the leader of their band.
After hearing this story from Lilia Silver says, “So that's why you weren't lead guitarist and vocalist this year,” implying that that may have been Lilia's role in his second and/or first year.
Lilia teaching Kalim how to play the drums is referenced during the Cloudcalling event, where Vil blames Lilia for Kalim choosing to ignore Leona’s strategy and subsequently fails his task.
Lilia and Kalim visit the town together during the local festival, joining an outdoor concert with Lilia on the flute and Kalim on the drums. They draw a crowd with their performance and Lilia observes, “Even abroad, our skills are undeniable.”
Both Cater and Lilia describe the three of them as “the top three low-key guys at school,” explaining that all the other members of the club cited “musical differences” and left, “but the truth is that they simply cannot cooperate.”
