the derkholm series fundamentally changed me as a person and this not hyperbole at all!! its just SO MUCH FUN and i highly recommend!!!!!!
in which it is ethically and morally correct to bully a child
the chants!
shout out to my siblings for being tolkien-nerds because they make it possible for me, a dwj-nerd, to photobomb their lego rivendell set <3
context of dwj's history with tolkien:
Happy TMBD New Years Gift Exchange @non-plutonian-druid !!! Featuring: some people of Team MB hanging out, as well as MB going undercover as a human (with varying levels of success). This was super fun!!
Fire and Hemlock!! Aka the one with like a gazillion recommendations for other books 😂
In 2011 I drastically reduced my DWJ book intake to dripfeed levels, so it was only in the 2024 new year that I finally decided to read Deep Secret. My god - out of all her books this seems targeted at me personally? Stressed late-20-somethings, making fools of oneself in vicinity of fav authors, artist alleys?? Also, blatant unmistakable LGBT-rep??? I can't believe I slept on this one for so long!!! Definitely putting it on the upper tiers of my DWJ bookshelf.
Anyway, here's some designs I've whipped up for the characters! As always, might tweak 'em if ever I draw more in the future, but that's what's fun about figuring out character designs. Rob in particular is a joy to me.
btw Zinka plsplspls let me table with you
Is it weird to say that I'm lowkey delighted by the MB casting? Because seeing that actor reminds me that back when my siblings and I were kids, one time we were refueling the car and WHAM started playing on the radio, so we started miming the entirety of the gas station scene from Zoolander. I got to be Brint and blow everyone up in slow motion, and it was GREAT.
Also it gave me the idea to draw this, so hereyougo :D
Anyway, I'm happily in the 'wait-and-see' camp, and looking forward to see how they adapt the story to the visual medium!
(Also bonus Ratthi speaking truth bombs: )
Realized I never got around to posting my take on Murderbot from last year! I am throwing finger hearts at it lovingly.
I love your Derkholm art! Do you have any tips on drawing griffins? I’m planning a webcomic that includes some griffin characters, and I don’t have any experience with A) drawing them in the first place and B) making them look like individuals. Thanks!
Thanks for being so patient for this reply - had a pretty busy couple of weeks preparing stuff for artist conventions. Anyway, was a lot of fun to ruminate on - here are a bunch of things I've thought about (and am still thinking about) when drawing the griffin kids! Heads up that I'm still practicing myself, and there are definitely a lot of aspects of creature design I could work on (the wiiiiiings gah), but hopefully this helps give you some direction on designing your own bird-lion-cats.
she's everything
