I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to explain this.
i just want an AU where the justice league figure out there is SOME sort of connection between Captain Marvel/Shazam and this one 10 year old and someone starts getting a little too close to the truth (or a particularly outrageous falsehood) for comfort so Shazam just kind of...
"oh yeah I'm actually Billy's imaginary friend."
"what."
"Yeah, the kid's lined up to be a super powerful wizard and all that someday, but in the meantime all that 'magical potential' has to go somewhere, or something, y'know?"
"wait. wait. oh my god. this is why you just disappear when you're off duty and batman hasn't been able to find your secret identity????"
"haha yeah for sure. no secret identity i totally just stop existing entirely. yup."
"doesn't that bother you?"
"no? why would it?"
cuz like ''the manifestation of a particularly magical 10 year old's idea of a perfect hero'' isn't unbelievable in universe and anyone ever thinks to accuse him of being a child he can just be like ''yall we've BEEN OVER THIS.'' yeah of course he's a lil childish a child came up with him why would it be unethical to go into battle with him he's an imaginary friend not a real kid No Billies Were Harmed In The Making Of This Superhero

Random headcanon: Shazam/Captain Marvel claims that he often forgets to take advantage of the “Wisdom of Solomon” aspect of his powers, but the truth is that he deliberately keeps it switched off most of the time because whenever he consults it, it mostly goes something like this –
Billy: How do we defeat the alien space god?
Wisdom of Solomon: You shouldn’t be fighting alien space gods, you’re ten.
Billy: Overruled. What else have you got?

Captain Marvel really inherits a cat from an old alien lesbian, steals a motorcycle, her outfit of choice is a nine inch nails shirt, a leather jacket, and a flannel around her waist, she goes by either CAROL OR VERS, and she helps her “best friend” raise a kid, she doesn’t get along with her family and builds a new one with a woman
Power of Hope
SHAZAM!: POWER OF HOPE NOVEMBER 2000 BY PAUL DINI AND ALEX ROSS
SYNOPSIS (FROM DC FANDOM)
Between capping volcanoes, foiling bank robberies, and averting nuclear disasters, the hero known as Captain Marvel has constantly faced challenges – leaving his young alter ego, Billy Batson, little time for his own life.
One day Billy receives a request for Captain Marvel to appear at a local children’s hospital. There he helps restore hope to a ward full of sick and needy children by granting their wishes. Yet one special child faces despair and looks to the Captain for hope. Deeply affected by his encounter, this tale shows just how human the World’s Mightiest Mortal truly is.
REVIEW
Another hit from the Dini-Ross series of books. Although, not as famous as “Peace on Earth” and “War on Crime”. The story works very well here because it puts Billy Batson in the path of giving hope to other kids. The trick here being that Billy is just another kid in search of hope. I found that twist to fit very well, not only in the story but also to the character.
About the art… you know it’s accurate when the character yawning in the page makes you yawn.
It’s also an oversized book, a fact that always dis-encouraged me to actually buy it (as the trip from the comic-book store would be pretty uncomfortable. But if you buy it online you can get it delivered to you (I couldn’t find it in comixology, but it is possible that it’s included with the DC Universe streaming service catalog).
The money from the sale of the originals was donated to the “Make-A Wish” foundation.
I give the book a score of 9
To all the dudebroes who think captain marvel was “unrealistic” and they were “laying it on thick,” just because an experience is different from your own doesn’t mean it’s not real and that you shouldn’t listen. I don’t know a single woman who hasn’t had similar experiences with men or worse than the one’s we see in captain marvel’s backstory.
#we love a good parallel
holiday gift for @topmebrielarson <3
some points were made
I love all of the 90s nostalgia in Captain Marvel. Blockbusters, the old computers, the pager, referring to your life partner that you’re raising a kid with as your best friend,
a really interesting, lovely thing about the Skrulls is how tactile they are?? like Talos hugs his wife, sure, but he also presses his forehead to hers, cradles the back of her head, leans their faces together, just allows himself to be close to her. probably the first time he gets to touch his child AT ALL (she acted like she’d never met him before) is to press their foreheads together and purr in greeting. he runs his thumb down his dead soldier’s nose during the autopsy scene (some sort of funeral rite?) and probably would have cradled the soldier’s head if he hadn’t needed to maintain the Keller persona. the Skrulls all hold onto Talos when he’s not strapped in during the escape from Mar-Vell’s ship. Talos isn’t flinchy when Nick holds his hand, and during the dinner scene he constantly has an arm around Soren and touches his daughter’s head when she comes up to the table
idk its such a wholesome thing
I would go for some Carol & Talos buddy cops resistance fighters fic, I really enjoyed their interaction. Like, they develop this seamless routine where they get somebody in an alley and Carol punches and Talos morphs into that person and they come back out of the alley
SCIENCE GUY DESERVED BETTER
I prefer the view from up there.
