what if whiskey realizes he has feelings for tango from watching jack and bitty.

jack and bitty come back for some smh event or something the year after bits graduates and, as most Zimbits At Social Events go, it’s a lot of bitty chatting with everyone while jack sits beside him, holding his waist and looking at him with the fondest look on his face.

and whiskey sees that and is half like “aw good for them” and half like “this is lowkey so embarrassing”

but then like barely fifteen minutes later, as he’s listening to tango ramble to someone he doesn’t recognize about something he’s lost track of, he reaches out unthinkingly to fix tango’s sleeve which is folded weird and just sort of leaves his hand there.

and out of the corner of his eye he sees jack smirking at him from across the kitchen. and whiskey raises an eyebrow bc wtf? it’s not like he and jack really interact much. what could he possibly have-

jack’s smile turns soft as his gaze shifts back to bitty and suddenly whiskey realizes why that fond look is so familiar.

he thinks of the photo of himself and tango and ford that was his phone background all of summer break. thinks of the way he could close his eyes and recall a perfect picture of tango’s features. realizes he’s still touching tango, who has now finished whatever story he’d been telling and is looking at him now, curious and a little concerned.

“everything cool?” tango asks him. he still isn’t pulling away from his touch.

whiskey isn’t pulling away either. “yeah, ‘m good”.

fucked is more like it.

How about this: 

After Jack retires, he and Bitty get a house somewhere equidistant from their respective homes, someplace with a nice bit of property, quiet, huge kitchen, etc. 

And Jack maybe gets a little bored, a little melancholy, so he decides to do something with the sprawling backyard. So he sections it off and builds boxes and pathways and plants a garden. It’s a pretty serious set up, very thoroughly researched - Jack sends out the soil to be tested for pH balances and nutrient composition and whatnot, and researches which plants are best for the region, and observes how many hours of sun they get, because our boy never does a thing half-assed, as we all know. 

All the while he’s very quiet about it, off in his own world, and Bits watches him puttering around from the veranda as he sips his coffee and makes sure his husband doesn’t get so lost in the dirt he forgets to eat or put on more sunscreen or what have you. 

Gardening books start piling up on the bedside table on top of the usual biographies, and Bits asks about it every now and again - “What exactly are you growing out there?” But Jack just shrugs and says, “Oh you know, a bit of everything.”

chowder better be the one giving the haus tour after bitty leaves otherwise i’m gonna fight because LITERALLY no one else would be as good as he would any

like sure it’ll be a complete trainwreck but he’ll also remember the most random facts (‘oh!! yeah!! bitty told us to throw that couch out over 200 times!’ ‘oh that boiler is from 2009 and broke down 8 times in the past three months, one time when nursey was taking a shower and another time when bitty was running the dishwasher anyway soap got eveywhere but nursey didn’t seem super bothered??’) and it’s just weirdly endearing like all these frogs feel so comfortable around him and start to really feel like part of the team bc they’re hearing all these weird stories but it makes the team seem more real and less like. ‘omg the two-time frozen four winner samwell wow!!’ like pls babes

and he buys all of them sharks merch like they each get a sticker or something and he has stats memorized back to like the 90s and will just casually throw them out there but if a kid asks him about the sharks/is a fan than the entire tour is derailed and it ends up lasting 2 hours longer than it should but it’s worth it and the frogs love it so much!

chowder explains everything in so much detail (like too much detail) but it helps the frogs feel more comfortable because going to college is confusing but the hockey team is a weird loving family and it makes them excited to be on the team

30 minutes are dedicated to the rules and expectations of team breakfast (‘no one has ever fit more eggs in their mouth than holster and honestly we don’t want anyone to try’)

after the haus tour is over chowder drags all the frogs around campus pointing out the best places for them to eat lunch and fastest paths on the quad and basically just gives them a bunch of pointers that orientation doesn’t lol

and chowder is super dedicated to it because he remembers how great bitty was at it and wants to live up to his legacy and also bitty made him feel super welcome and comfortable and he also highkey admires shitty and wants to make him proud too

and anytime he sees caitlyn and the girls team practicing he’ll wave frantically and be like ‘CAITLYN!! HI!!! that’s my girlfriend she’s amazing and pretty and super good at everything she does she’s fantastic wow’ bc he just really loves her a lot!!!

Shitty has a point

Growing his hair out is more or less unintentional.

Dex misses his appointment at the hair salon by accident. The team played a gruesome game the night before, earning them a spot in the Frozen Four for the second year in a row, and the kegster that followed dragged on until morning. The time for the appointment came and went while Dex lay passed out in bed.

After their season ends (no win, sadly) it is high time to focus on finals. Dex decides to further postpone his usually once-a-month haircut to not lose precious study time. How was he to know he’d have an overwhelming post-finals crash and procrastinate booking the appointment until it’s time to go home for the summer?

He continues to avoid cutting his hair all through break, despite his mother’s disapproving remarks. On the lobster boat no-one gives a crap what you look like, and Dex’s hair is hidden beneath a cap anyway, so why waste the money? But by the end of the summer his wildly grown mane is impossible to manage and Dex’s mother has had enough and books an appointment for him.

Dex goes in and asks for the usual short-back-and-sides, but then the barber takes just one too many wistful looks at his hair and maybe Dex has also spent too much time marvelling at the length and running his fingers through the soft strands and being oddly pleased when tucking them behind his ears and before he knows it, Dex blurts out that he likes it long, actually? maybe just trying it out? because he’s meant to experiment in college, right? Then blushes bright red because, yes, that last statement usually has other connotations. Dex doesn’t know what possessed him to say all that, and is too embarrassed to go changing his mind about the haircut again.

The barber keeps their face reasonably straight, ends up cleaning up the split ends while keeping as much of the length as possible, and then shows Dex easy ways to style it.

Dex leaves a generous tip.

His mother sighs when she sees him and starts a fight with him about the length, but since it’s actually a nice haircut she eventually lets it go.

However, once Dex gets back to school his teammates are beside themselves by his appearance. Dex suggests that he’s simply upholding tradition and honoring the hockey flow. Maybe he expected cheers of approval, but he receives instead an endless stream of chirps. Even the newest frogs (tadpoles? spawn?) join in.

Dex takes it all in good stride, because he did catch Nursey staring at him with a wondrous look on his face, and Chowder throws in enough compliments among the chirps for Dex not to feel too embarrassed about the whole thing.

When Bitty arrives he takes just one look at him before his phone is out, and soon has tweeted a picture of his ‘do for all the world to see. Not long after that Dex receives a text from Shitty containing nothing but the crying emoji.

I’m not saying Dex has a teeny crush on Bitty and that’s why he learns to bake and always helps Bitty out in the kitchen except that’s what I’m totally saying. 

Bonus: the moment he probably started feeling all gross and mushy towards that weird baking sophomore

Nursey: now that you’ve got curls, here’s some stuff to do and not do and it’s very—

Dex: *brushes his hair while it’s dry*

Nursey, eye twitching: —very important to never fuckin do that again

It’s two days before Halloween 2028. Dex and Nursey have both put off getting a Halloween costume for their child until the last minute, so Dex makes the ill-conceived decision to send Nursey out to pick up a costume. Which like, it’ll be fine, right? Nursey’s a grown adult and a wonderful father, he can handle one simple task, right? Dex is a terrible partner for doubting him for even a second.
