My first visit to Cobra Lounge was fantastic night of Punk Rock! This was a Riot Fest show and I went specifically to see the headliner Pkew Pkew Pkew. I saw them at Riot Fest back in September. Their music is simply just fun Pop Punk. You gotta love lyrics like:

Mid twenties skateboarder I hope I don't get hurt

Drinking a six pack beer Takes away all the fear

The opening bands were all very good. Ramona was excellent. I did not really see Weekend as I went and sat at the bar for their set, but I could hear their music and it sounded good. The Jacob Horn Trio is actually a sextet, but they have three horn players (two saxophone and one trumpet). Hence the name. Interesting blend of horns with Punk Music but they were way too loud.

Cobra Lounge was owned by Sean McKeough, co-founder of Riot Fest. He tragically passed away three years ago at age 42. It is connected to All Rise Brewery which serves the draft beers at Riot Fest. It has three rooms; one for the live music, one for dining and drinking and another that is part of the brewery. It is just an excellent venue. I look forward to going back again sometime soon!

My buddy Chris and I had an email exchange this morning about this Pixies’ song which he heard on WDSO (Chesteton, IN). It’s my favorite Pixies song from my favorite Pixies album, Surfer Rosa. It also is the closing song for the great film Fight Club. So I’m kicking off the weekend by asking the musical question, Where Is My Mind?

After a rainy, cold first week of April and major league baseball, we finally got some glorious blue skies on Friday, giving hope that we will eventually see some nice spring weather. When I stopped in a gas station/car wash, many people were vacuuming their cars in the sunshine. Over the loud speakers, CCR’s Who’ll Stop The Rain played and it seemed like an ironic metaphor since the rain had finally actually stopped.

But that song stuck in my mind, so I have to kick off the weekend with a little Creedence and hope for more sunny, warm days ahead.

I’m never happy when I have to be out of town on the weekend and staying in my hotel room the last few evenings to help save some money from my recent Sports and Riot Fest weekends did not help my disposition. However, tomorrow will be a good day.  I’ve got some racquetball in the morning, client meetings in the afternoon and I will go to a sports bar in the evening to watch Notre Dame vs. Clemson. I feel better already! Go Irish!!!
