Da South Side
Reportedly, the Lions have never beaten the Vikings 17-14.
My wife was at a game in Minneapolis at the same time I was at a game in Phoenix. Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers on a walkoff homer by Eduardo Escobar. Twins fall to the Tigers 4-2.
What I did on my summer vacation.
I am attending a Twins Cities baseball doubleheader on Sunday; a major league Minnesota Twins game in the afternoon in Minneapolis, and a minor league St. Paul Saints game in the evening in St. Paul. As I was thinking about Twins and Saints, I started to wonder, “Has there ever been any saints that were twins?” I did a little internet research and found out that in fact, there are a few cases of twins that became saints. Reading through the history, it is evident that there is no certainty that some of the sibling saints were actually twins because they lived early in the first millennium and there is little or nothing known about their childhoods. However, one pair reputed to be twins is St. Benedict (480-547) and his sister St. Scholastica (480-543). I found this fascinating because they both have colleges in Minnesota name for them; College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph and College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. So it turns out that the baseball Twins and Saints perhaps have a secondary meaning to their names that goes beyond the cities in which they play their games.
For the first time in the long history of Major League Baseball, three players with the same last name - Garcia - are all starting in the outfield. The White Sox players are Willy Garcia (LF), Leury Garcia (CF) and Avisail Garcia (RF).
44 degrees on the field. 72 degrees in the Stadium Club.
It's déjà vu all over again. When I was in Minneapolis earlier in the season, I got to see the Twins play the White Sox. Flash forward to September and I get to see a rematch. Hopefully a Sox winner this time.
Beautiful day at Sox park for a game and Paul Konerko’s uniform number retirement ceremony. Great to see Paulie back at the ballpark along with Jim Thome and Ozzie Guillen. As for the game, Chris Sale was shaky early, giving up 2 runs each in the 2nd and 3rd. He settled down but the White Sox couldn’t muster enough offense to overcome the the deficit and ended up losing 4-3. The Twins’ Tori Hunter contributed to the damage with a rocket-of-a-home run. He’s always been one of my favorite players and at 39 years young, he is having a great season. Despite the outcome, we still had fun and it was great to see the ballpark packed with fans.
A beautiful day for a ballgame. Put me in coach!
GO WHITE SOX!!!
