Carolina Hurricanes equipment manager Jorge Alves got to live the dream when he had a chance to play in an NHL game for 7.6 seconds on New Year’s Eve, 2016. The 37-year-old Marine Corps veteran and former minor league player was asked to suit up for the game when back-up goalie Eddie Lack became ill just before the game. With the Canes down 3-1 and icing called, coach Bill Peters put Alves in the net. He did not face a shot, nor even encounter the puck in the Canes zones, but he had the thrill of his life. Video of the moment can be seen on the Hurricanes’ Twitter site.
