PSA for fanfic writers
I call upon the fan fic writing gods to bless you with the perseverance to finish one of your unfinished drafts.
May your fingers dance along the letters upon your device with ease, may the devil of distraction stay far from you, and may your work not need much editing.
I pass this blessing upon every fan fic writer out there.
you know what? new movement: leave comments on every single fic you read and enjoy. every last one.
new and trendy: appreciate fan authors challenge
they deserve love and feedback as much as any other authors challenge
An add-on to this movement: reblogging fics to promote your fan authors
Another add-on: fic recommendation so that more people can see the fics you love and authors love to write.
Possible update schedule
Okay guys this is something I may need help on because I am just not doing so great but I’m getting there. I need some feedback and I’m going to need my mutuals to hold me to what I decide to do. If I forget or stumble on it just dm me and check to see if I’m okay or have time to give a post about what’s going on.
First things first the goal is to start updating fics twice a month. (it would be three times but I have to fit an ao3 schedule in somewhere) I need to know which ones you want to see the most and the ones with the most votes will be updated on that schedule.
Second for those of you that follow Bethany ( @got7familyvalues ) and her family I will try to fit in Sunday “ask the family member” days. Every sunday. No exceptions so send em in and I will answer either during the day or during the week, but by the next Sunday it will be a new family member so any questions sent that day should be directed to the family member who’s Sunday it is. Sound fair?
Also on that note if you would like for Reaction Fridays to be a thing that I work up to let me know. What I plan to do with this is have requests sent in for the first week of the month and on the last Friday of the month the follower favorite will be the one I post. [That is not to say I won’t fulfill the other requests it is just that they may be posted at any given time rather than on my monthly update schedule]
One last thing before I go, if there are any writers/editors who would like to be a part of a Kakao group chat I am thinking of making called ‘the writer’s block’ let me know. My idea for this is to connect other fic writers to people who don’t mind reading over or editing their fics before post dates. I want it to be a place we can go when we’re stuck, or just need that extra little bit of friendly advice to really make it amazing.
message, send in asks or reply if you see anything about this post that is worth your time.
Thanks,
Chey
on fanfic & emotional continuity
Writing and reading fanfic is a masterclass in characterisation.
Consider: in order to successfully write two different “versions” of the same character - let alone ten, or fifty, or a hundred - you have to make an informed judgement about their core personality traits, distinguishing between the results of nature and nurture, and decide how best to replicate those conditions in a new narrative context. The character you produce has to be recognisably congruent with the canonical version, yet distinct enough to fit within a different - perhaps wildly so - story. And you physically can’t accomplish this if the character in question is poorly understood, or viewed as a stereotype, or one-dimensional. Yes, you can still produce the fic, but chances are, if your interest in or knowledge of the character(s) is that shallow, you’re not going to bother in the first place.
Because ficwriters care about nuance, and they especially care about continuity - not just literal continuity, in the sense of corroborating established facts, but the far more important (and yet more frequently neglected) emotional continuity. Too often in film and TV canons in particular, emotional continuity is mistakenly viewed as a synonym for static characterisation, and therefore held anathema: if the character(s) don’t change, then where’s the story? But emotional continuity isn’t anti-change; it’s pro-context. It means showing how the character gets from Point A to Point B as an actual journey, not just dumping them in a new location and yelling Because Reasons! while moving on to the next development. Emotional continuity requires a close reading, not just of the letter of the canon, but its spirit - the beats between the dialogue; the implications never overtly stated, but which must logically occur off-screen. As such, emotional continuity is often the first casualty of canonical forward momentum: when each new TV season demands the creation of a new challenge for the protagonists, regardless of where and how we left them last, then dealing with the consequences of what’s already happened is automatically put on the backburner.
Fanfic does not do this.
Fanfic embraces the gaps in the narrative, the gracenotes in characterisation that the original story glosses, forgets or simply doesn’t find time for. That’s not all it does, of course, but in the context of learning how to write characters, it’s vital, because it teaches ficwriters - and fic readers - the difference between rich and cardboard characters. A rich character is one whose original incarnation is detailed enough that, in order to put them in fanfic, the writer has to consider which elements of their personality are integral to their existence, which clash irreparably with the new setting, and which can be modified to fit, to say nothing of how this adapted version works with other similarly adapted characters. A cardboard character, by contrast, boasts so few original or distinct attributes that the ficwriter has to invent them almost out of whole cloth. Note, please, that attributes are not necessarily synonymous with details in this context: we might know a character’s favourite song and their number of siblings, but if this information gives us no actual insight into them as a person, then it’s only window-dressing. By the same token, we might know very few concrete facts about a character, but still have an incredibly well-developed sense of their personhood on the basis of their actions.
The fact that ficwriters en masse - or even the same ficwriter in different AUs - can produce multiple contradictory yet still fundamentally believable incarnations of the same person is a testament to their understanding of characterisation, emotional continuity and narrative.
So I was reading this rumination on fanfic and I was thinking about something @involuntaryorange once talked to me about, about fanfic being its own genre, and something about this way of thinking really rocked my world? Because for a long time I have thought like a lawyer, and I have defined fanfiction as “fiction using characters that originated elsewhere,” or something like that. And now I feel like…fanfiction has nothing to do with using other people’s characters, it’s just a character-driven *genre* that is so character-driven that it can be more effective to use other people’s characters because then we can really get the impact of the storyteller’s message but I feel like it could also be not using other people’s characters, just a more character-driven story. Like, I feel like my original stuff–the novellas I have up on AO3, the draft I just finished–are probably really fanfiction, even though they’re original, because they’re hitting fanfic beats. And my frustration with getting original stuff published has been, all along, that I’m calling it a genre it really isn’t.
And this is why many people who discover fic stop reading other stuff. Once you find the genre you prefer, you tend to read a lot in that genre. Some people love mysteries, some people love high-fantasy. Saying you love “fic” really means you love this character-driven genre.
So when I hear people be dismissive of fic I used to think, Are they just not reading the good fic? Maybe I need to put the good fic in front of them? But I think it turns out that fanfiction is a genre that is so entirely character-focused that it actually feels weird and different, because most of our fiction is not that character-focused.
It turns out, when I think about it, I am simply a character-based consumer of pop culture. I will read and watch almost anything but the stuff that’s going to stick with me is because I fall for a particular character. This is why once a show falters and disagrees with my view of the character, I can’t just, like, push past it, because the show *was* the character for me.
Right now my big thing is the Juno Steel stories, and I know that they’re doing all this genre stuff and they have mysteries and there’s sci-fi and meanwhile I’m just like, “Okay, whatever, I don’t care about that, JUNO STEEL IS THE BEST AND I WANT TO JUST ROLL AROUND IN HIS SARCASTIC, HILARIOUS, EMOTIONALLY PINING HEAD.” That is the fanfiction-genre fan in me coming out. Someone looking for sci-fi might not care about that, but I’m the type of consumer (and I think most fic-people are) who will spend a week focusing on what one throwaway line might reveal about a character’s state of mind. That’s why so many fics *focus* on those one throwaway lines. That’s what we’re thinking about.
And this is what makes coffee shop AUs so amazing. Like, you take some characters and you stick them in a coffee shop. That’s it. And yet I love every single one of them. Because the focus is entirely on the characters. There is no plot. The plot is they get coffee every day and fall in love. That’s the entire plot. And that’s the perfect fanfic plot. Fanfic plots are almost always like that. Almost always references to other things that clue you in to where the story is going. Think of “friends to lovers” or “enemies to lovers” or “fake relationship,” and you’re like, “Yes. I love those. Give me those,” and you know it’s going to be the same plot, but that’s okay, you’re not reading for the plot. It’s like that Tumblr post that goes around that’s like, “Me starting a fake relationship fic: Ooooh, do you think they’ll fall in love for real????” But you’re not reading for the suspense. Fic frees you up from having to spend effort thinking about the plot. Fic gives your brain space to focus entirely on the characters. And, especially in an age of plot-twist-heavy pop culture, that almost feels like a luxury. “Come in. Spend a little time in this character’s head. SPEND HOURS OF YOUR LIFE READING SO MANY STORIES ABOUT THIS CHARACTER’S HEAD. Until you know them like a friend. Until you know them so well that you miss them when you’re not hanging out with them.”
When that is your story, when the characters become like your friends, it makes sense that you’re freed from plot. It’s like how many people don’t really have a “plot” to hanging out with their friends. There’s this huge obsession with plot, but lives don’t have plots. Lives just happen. We try to shape them into plots later, but that’s just this organizational fiction we’re imposing. Plot doesn’t have to be the raison d’etre of all story-telling, and fic reminds us of that.
Idk, this was a lot of random rambling but I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.
“fanfiction has nothing to do with using other people’s characters, it’s just a character-driven *genre* that is so character-driven that it can be more effective to use other people’s characters”
yes!!!! I feel like I knew this on some level but I’ve never explicitly thought about it that way. this feels right, yep. Mainstream fiction often seems very dry to me and I think this is why - it tends to skip right over stuff that would be a huge plot arc in a fanfic, if not an entire fanfic in itself. And I’m like, “hey, wait, go back to that. Why are you skipping that? Where’s the story?” But now I think maybe people who don’t like fanfiction are going like, “why is there an entire fanfic about something that could have happened offscreen? Is anything interesting ever going to happen here? Where’s the story?”
Yes! Exactly! This!!!
This crystallized for me when I taught my first class of fanfiction to non-fic-readers and they just kept being like, “But nothing happens. What’s the plot?” and I was so confused, like, “What are you talking about? They fall in love. That’s the plot.” But we were, I think, talking past each other. They kept waiting for some big moment to happen, but for me the point was that the little moments were the big moments.
I think for me as someone who once tried writing in the “conventional fiction” style this has been one of those hard things to wrap my head around. I mean I focus deeply on the emotional state of the characters because that is the Point. The point of fanfiction when it is written is “Who is this character? How do they see the events they went through? How does it change them to have person B or Event C happen?” It isn’t like regular writing where the point is something along the lines of “This is main character A. This is Main Character B. Person A has to do ____ to get ___ and save _____.” The blank is the focus. That blank whether it be “the world”, “The person they love”, “The social norm”, or whatever is what the whole Point of “conventional fiction” is. Then with that Point comes plot, purpose, and the twist. You don’t get emotion or anything subverse. You get all of that. Nothing more. Nothing less. You may get a fraction of how a character feels but you never see things truly as they see it like you do in the FanFiction world. As someone who swapped over I can tell you that changing the mindset is so hard. You get obsessed with Plot over character developement and it can wash out an entire story in a matter of seconds. don’t believe me? Check out my Immortals series. I over flooded it with plot twists because I thought no one would read or care about some complex vampire kpop au without the plot twists or without this big freaking backstory that all links up in the end. Turns out it was an end I never even made it to on that fic. Point is let people judge. Fanfiction is a genre of its own and you have to completely reshape the way you think to write this way. If you write fanfiction don’t give up because someone says it isn’t “real” writing. FanFiction is sometimes more “real” and close to life emotionally as it truly is than any other type of fiction out there. That’s the reason when our characters cry we cry, when they say something funny as hell we are right there laughing with them, and when they love we never want to let go. It takes work, but because of that work and time put in I would recommend thousands of fanfictions before I would reccommend just one book.
Chapter Four: Eldest
Immortals series. At least on Seungri’s end of things we are picking up right where we left off. As promised there will be at least one new character added into this one. The gifs will probably give that away as soon as you see them. Anyhow, I hope you all are still enjoying this series. In this series Hyunseung is meant to be Seungri’s biological brother and they are both related down the line to YG. As you found out in the last series. I thought it was a good fit because of the possibility that Hyunseung was jealous of Seungri after going mad due to the transformation.
Warnings: Possible violence, cursing, intimate/suggestive situations.
Notes: I do not own any of the gifs, any affiliation to real people is strictly coincidental as this is a work of fiction and I do not translate the text so if anything is wrong I apologize.
Korean: anjeonhan- be safe; jiog eun museun il?- what the hell was that?;
“What is it that you want to know exactly Seungri.” Hyun Suk bridged his hands in front of him on the desk just now realizing again why he’d expelled those four from the coven in the first place. The two he sired were a threat to his place as coven leader and his existence the closer they were to him because he’d been young and foolish back then; but with the other two that were sired by her they could take the coven with no questions asked. He’d always worried that Seungri or Hyunseung would find out his secret. When Hyunseung went crazy he thought if he exiled Seungri the secret would be safe. What a fool he’d been.
“Is it possible for a human to resist our abilities?” Seungri didn’t bother with being delicate because he had been sitting on this information for days.
“Now why would you be asking a question like that?” Yang asked, slightly intrigued. Maybe there would be something good to come out of this visit after all.
“Do you know the answer or not? Hyungnim I came to you because you are the oldest vampire in the coven, the one who sired me and my blood. The least you can do is give me an answer.” Seungri’s patience was wearing thin.
“Unfortunately I don’t know the answer...” Yang replied slowly.
“Jenjang. I knew this was a waste of time.” Seungri muttered, turning to leave.
“But I do know someone who might.” YG finished. Seungri stopped mid-stride and turned to face him.
“Nugu?”
“What’s in it for me?” Yang countered. Typical Hyun Suk, always in it for the profit.
“You get to keep whatever information you get out of this meeting.”
“Not interested.” It was a weak lie and they both knew it.
“Fine. I won’t ever mention your secret again after today. If you want I can get Jiyong to erase the memory.” Ri said and could barely contain his smirk when he realized Yang was going to take the deal. He said he would erase the memory but he didn’t say which one. The conversation about this deal would be useless after he got what he wanted. That was one of the better tricks he’d picked up from his sire. Manipulate everything to your advantage.
“Jiyong erases that memory as soon as this meeting is over, alda? And anything I hear in this meeting I get to hold onto and use as I please. Do we have a deal?” Yang said obviously thinking that he was getting the better bargain.
“Deal.”
“Can you call her down here for a moment?” Hyun Suk spoke into an intercom system, no doubt to the receptionist at the front of the building.
“Yangsangnim are you certain? She won’t be pleased with the interruption.” The young woman’s voice came back.
“She joined this coven with full understanding that she was to come when I called. Displeased or otherwise. Call her in.”
“Ne, Yangsangnim. I will do that now.”
“Gamsahabnida.” He let the line go dead then turned his gaze back to the young vampire who sat with a similar posture in the chair across from his. It was undeniable once you really thought about it that he was Yang’s kin. Luckily no one had thought about it... Yet.
“How long did it take for you to realize?” He figured that it couldn’t hurt to ask if Seungri was just going to forget it later.
“Shortly after you kicked my brother and I out. There was only one reason for me to possibly be that big of a threat and it wasn’t my michin hyung. You have kept one sibling and tossed out another before with no thought to it. Pair that with my appearance and go back in the family register far enough and it wasn’t that hard to find you. What I don’t get is why throw out Jiyong and Youngbae with us? They aren’t even a part of your sire line.”
“You are still as short sighted as you ever were. They are the same age as me and up until I threw them out they were gaining favor in the coven. Had I let any of you stay I wouldn’t be sitting here and you wouldn’t be about to get the information you were so desperate for.”
“If we were such a threat why call us back?” Seungri asked, but before Yang could answer the door was flung open angrily.
“I was in the middle of recording, what is it?!” A woman’s voice demanded angrily. Yang gestured his pen to Seungri, who turned around quickly to face the newcomer. Anyone who would storm into his sire’s office like that was obviously the bigger threat.
“Seungri-sshi?” She raised an eyebrow.
“He had a question. I am clearly not experienced enough to answer it but-”
“Hajima. You think too loudly.”
“Mianhae. Chaerin I didn’t realize.” Hyun Suk apologized and Seungri looked at him like he’d lost his mind. Yang never apologized... to anyone.
“Not you. Him.” She pointed at Seungri.
“He doesn’t know any better. I didn’t tell him anything about you before calling you down here.” Hyun Suk explained almost sounding like yet another apology. She ignored him, her attention on the young vampire. Seungri’s head started to hurt and before he realized it, images and thoughts were being plucked out. CL was suddenly close enough to share airspace with him, her hands planted firmly on the sides of his head.
“Aju yeppeun. This girl of yours. Strong too. Naturally you and your friends would want to pursue her. Don’t be fooled. She may look like a mouse, but rarely are women like her ever what they seem. To answer your question for a human to resist our abilities it isn’t impossible, but for a human to brush them off so completely it is. I have only seen something like that happen twice in my lifetime and it was never done by a human. Interesting that even after joining a coven they kept to my ways. Gamsahabnida young one, you have what you need and now I have what I need. Annyeong.” She whispered before releasing him and he dropped to the ground still clawing at his skull to get the burning to stop but Chaerin didn’t bother to check on him.
“Jigeum, If you don’t mind, I came when I was summoned and did what was asked. I will be going first.” She said and then burst out the door the same way she came in.
“jiog eun museun il?” Seungri demanded when he could stand and had his eyesight back.
“Chaerin is a rare psychic and is actually the oldest vampire in the coven not myself like you previously thought. I should have known she wouldn’t tell you anything where I could hear it. She doesn’t trust me. However you still have the other half of our deal to make good on.”
“Ne. I will call him.” Seungri grumbled as he tried to clear the fog from his mind. The phone rang until the line clicked up.
“Hyung can you come down to the coven. I made a deal for some information and I need you to help me make good on it.” Seungri said then hung up before Ji could ask any questions. Hopefully after this no one would be digging in his mind again for a very very long time.
**********************************Jiyong POV*****************************
Jiyong and the others knew where Ri had gone today. He’d been uncomfortable, angry and almost scared the past few days leading up to it but what they didn’t understand was why so when Jiyong got the call from Seungri he didn’t hesitate to start grabbing up his jacket and keys and heading out the door. The others were too busy with their food to bother with it. Besides they knew if Ri was in trouble then Jiyong was his best and safest bet, especially against Yang.
He pulled up to the building as fast as his wheels could carry him and stopped in the closest spot storming up the stairs to the top floor office. Not even waiting to be announced and slamming the doors open. It struck Yang as funny that he did it in much the same way that his sire had.
“Ah Jiyong right on time. Well late as usual but since you are busy these days I suppose it doesn’t matter.” Yang said looking pleased to see him. He had always preferred Jiyong out of all the coven members but no one ever knew why.
“What do you need Dongsaeng.” Jiyong said searching for Seungri and frowning when he picked up on the pained emotions his friend was giving off.
“What happened? Yang did you do something?”
“Ani. He just had his first experience with your sire. I don’t have to remind you the toll that takes on someone do I?” Yang chuckled.
“Gwaenchan-a. I need you to erase a memory for me.” Ri coughed out.
“Wae?”
“Yang and I made a deal. I will explain later just do it.” Seungri said weakly still clutching onto his head like he was dizzy and it was the only thing keeping him in place.
“Alright. Think of the memory you want to forget. Focus on it like it is happening right now. It will start to fade, but you can’t fight it otherwise this won’t work. Got it?”
“Ne. Gaja. I want to leave this office as fast as possible. He focused on the earlier conversation and pulled it back completely to memory from the point after he told Yang that he knew all the way up to Chaerin entering the room making sure to put the important details in the back of his mind away from this memory. It started to fade but it wasn’t painful like when CL tore through his memories it was more like plucking strings than ripping something away. Then it was gone.
“Done.” Jiyong said. Seungri didn’t bother to wait for another word as he left.
********************************Chaerin POV*****************************
Chaerin was certain the girl from Seungri’s memories was special. It was something in the way seungri’s memory of her blood smelled. Something in the way her grey eyes looked and the way she carried herself. It was familiar. Everything about that girl was oddly familiar and it bothered her. Who are you?
“Chaelin-ah. Do you really not know the answer?” Chaerin turned towards the voice to see the girl from Seungri’s memories sitting on a lounge chair behind her with a smug expression on her face. Unlike how Seungri envisioned her this woman before CL was different. She wasn’t human.
“How did you get here?” Chaerin demanded.
“Well when two people of the opposite sex are in love...” The girl started.
“You know that isn’t what I meant.” Chaerin snapped.
“Oh you mean why am I sitting here talking to you? I came to give you a warning. Don’t trust the faces around you. Someone is coming for big bang, for the entire coven and you just gave him what he wanted by putting them all in the same place. Minji's death won’t be the last.”
“What are you talking about? Minji is fine. The coven made a mistake.”
“Did they really? Saying that they found her head separate from the rest of her seems like an awfully big mistake. You didn’t leave her with Bom and Dara, now, did you?” The girl tilted her head like she was contemplating what CL had just said. Before CL could fully process what the girl in front of her had meant Jiyong was passing right through her and she was gone in a cloud of mist.
“Chaelin-ah? Gwaenchan-a? You look like you have seen a ghost.” Jiyong ran a hand over her jaw in a comforting gesture before letting it fall back to his side.
“Maybe I have.” she muttered thinking about what the vision had told her. Don’t trust the faces around you... you didn’t leave her with Bom and Dara, now, did you?
“Mwo? Did you have another vision?” He started looking at her to make sure she really wasn’t hurt this time. Her visions had on occasion been able to cause physical injuries before.
“Is Minji really gone?” CL asked him.
“Ne. They found her outside the dance studio. almost two weeks ago I think. Dae isn’t taking it too well. Wae?” Jiyong asked.
“Jiyong-ah something is wrong.” She told him. scrambling to dig her phone out of her bag. She dialed Bom’s number. It rang until the voice mail clicked on. She let out a curse and took off running to the sound booth where the girls had been recording.
“Rin wait!” Jiyong took off after her but she had always been faster than him and she made it to the sound booth long before he did freezing in the doorway when she saw the writing on the glass.
Bom was a little busy when you called. Thanks for letting me back in. See you soon RinRin. -HS
Whoever it was used the nickname minzy had given her and she felt the rage seep through her veins like molten lava. Her eyes turned a reflective green and she dug her perfectly manicured nails into her palms.
“Saekki I should have killed him in Thailand when I had the chance.” Jiyong muttered walking over to his sire and holding her close. He knew she was allowing him to be there.. allowing him to comfort her. If not he’d have been dead on principle.
“Gwaenchan-a Chaerin. I will make it okay. I promise.”
“I should have known. This is my fault. I let a child fool me and now my most trusted friends are gone.” She was crying out of guilt and little pinkish stains started to fall on his shirt.
“Ani. You look at me. This is not your fault. This would never have happened if Yang hadn’t been a sentimental fool.”
“You know something about the one who did this?” Chaerin looked up at him eyes turning green again as the thirst for revenge hit her.
“Ne, but I will handle it Rin. You have to let me and the others handle it. The one who did this is our responsibility. I should have handled it before this, but now it is gotten personal. I will talk to you later. anjeonhan.” he kissed her forehead then walked out of the door and back up to Yang’s office.
“Sorry Jiyong but you’ve lost your mind if you think I am going to let a child fight in my stead.” CL swore to herself then left to meet with a very old friend who might be able to help her.
*****************************Reader POV*******************************
You were working again that night after doing a shift at the cafe earlier in the afternoon. It hadn’t really shocked you when you saw the five of them in your section again. They were really going to play this game. Fine. You could handle this.
“You always work this much?” Seunghyun teased as you sat their drinks down.
“Not everyone can be international superstars.” You replied coolly then went to the next table to pick up orders.
“Sheesh hyung what did you do to her?” Daesung joked.
“I spoke to her Halmeoni. and followed her to her other job. She’s reckless when she’s on edge. maybe an advantage for us.” T.O.P. chuckled a little bit at the memory. then thought about what else had happened.
“Have any of you noticed anything off about her?” He pointed in the direction she’d walked where she was now talking cheerfully to some other patrons and taking their drink orders. She practically skipped over to the bar which should have been impossible with all the patrons but they seemed to just move out of her way. Even the guys that had been checking her out and saying they were going to make a move just stepped aside for her. It reminded Seungri of what happened with them. No matter how crazy the fans got even if it was just a centimeter of space there was always that little bit of room.
“Other than the fact she broke that big guy’s wrist that day not really. You going somewhere with this?” Jiyong sort of snapped. His mind was still on the sight back at the studio and on Chaerin. She never broke down like that. In all the centuries that he’d known her even before he’d been turned she was this strong and beautiful creature who never cried and was never scared for herself. He knew she wasn’t just going to sit back for this and he hated it.
“Hyung you all right? You haven’t been the same since you left the house earlier. Even with my eyes blocked your aura... It looks bad. like anger and disgust and sorrow.” Daesung asked.
“Dara and Bom are dead.” He said before taking another swallow of his drink.
“Hyunseung?” Seungri questioned. He already knew the answer. He’d always known when his brother was nearby. He’d just foolishly hoped he had been imagining things when he felt him in the coven.
“Ne.” The look on his face was one that Seungri knew intimately. it was the same face that Seungri made when he lost Maggie.
“Does he really think it will do any good challenging her?” Youngbae looked up from where he’d been watching y/n make her way through the crowd then settle herself behind the counter. It reminded him a little of Adeline but he shook that thought away.
“You’re going after him this time? I guess when it’s the love of your life killing off that saekki is all good? What about when it was Maggie and Addie and Elizabeth? They just didn’t matter? By the way with him around should we even be wasting our time on the waitress?” Seungri snapped.
“Chaerin isn’t just some human I developed a crush on. If you four hadn’t been stupid and fallen in love with your food in the first place Hyunseung wouldn’t have gone after them. They’d still be dead but you wouldn’t be messed up about it and please don’t tell me you’re falling for this one too.” Jiyong shot back.
“Crazy bastard or not if you kill him the council will have your head Jiyong. Don’t you get it? it’s the same thing you told me in the 70′s he has us in a gosh damned corner and there is nothing we can do about it. Not as long as my sire is protecting a secret that has everything to do with him. You know what fuck this. Do what you want Jiyong. I’m out.” Seungri hopped up and stormed over to the bar where you were slinging drinks now instead of running tables. Myongjin had a family emergency come up so there you were.
“What’s all that about?” you said gesturing between him and the booth where he’d just been. You hadn’t heard what was said but it was clear that a fight had just broken out between the five of them. You found yourself wondering why other than knowing that Seungri was pissed no one had seemed to notice.
“Nothing.” Seungri rumbled and you put a glass of whiskey in front of him.
“Look I’m offering therapy here for the price of a drink so if you change your mind I’m all ears and your secret’s safe with me.”
“its about my brother.” Seungri muttered. He said it below the normal human hearing level trying to see if what T.O.P had been getting at wasn’t just his friend being on edge and see if his hunch from earlier about the music was right too. You were at the other end of the bar and looked up at him like he’d just shouted it to the world. He hadn’t. He’d barely whispered it.
“What are you?” He asked his eyes never leaving yours. You found yourself trapped in that gaze until you heard your name called by your friends.
“Hey!” Autumn sing songed as she walked up with Lilly following close behind.
“Hey girl. What you having?” You asked swapping back to that easy southern drawl of yours.
“Whatever you gave him.” She pointed a thumb at Seungri and grinned.
“Whiskey on the rocks I should have known. You want the party version or are you heart broken tonight?” You asked. It was an inside joke because of something that happened in Atlanta one night. She’d just broken up with a boyfriend and was miserable but when she ordered a whiskey on the rocks the bartender brought back Jack and coke instead of a straight shot. She was already drunk by that time so she said I asked for whiskey straight sugar I need heart broken whiskey not the party version.
“Ah why the hell not? Break my heart again Lex.” She replied and you laughed scooped the ice into the glass and poured up the amber colored liquid passing it to her and moving onto the next patron. You knew the moment that Lillie saw YB and you grabbed onto her wrist.
“Not tonight Lil. There’s something going on and they don’t need our help.”
“Hey.” Yb’s voice came from right next to her and you let her wrist go glaring at the Big Bang member but you didn’t say anything. Instead opting to wipe furiously at the glass in your hand until you heard a crash and felt a sharp pain in your hand.
“Jenjang!” You cursed and you saw all five of the band members and a couple of other clubbers looking at you. No not you... Your hands.
“Bad move, tough girl.” Seungri chuckled under his breath then took another swig of his whiskey.
“Hyolin. Can you step back here for a moment?” You hollered for another one of the waitresses and made your way to the girls bathroom only to notice that Seungri was at your side.
“I don’t need your help. Its just a cut.”
“There’s glass still in your hand and trust me at this point yes you do need my help. More than you even know. Why’d you let him get to you?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Youngbae. I know he bothers you. we all do. You ever stop to think why that is? You look a little pale by the way. Have you been sick?”
“Mwo? Now you want to act like my boyfriend instead of my boss? What gives you the right?” You demanded wanting to take some of the pent up anger from what happened with the glass and direct it anywhere but inward. Something weird was going on and you were terrified and something in you was still screaming that it had to do with those five.
“Do you ever not pick a fight, woman, I am trying to help you right now. I can always go back to my whiskey. Its better company anyway.” He said thumbing in the direction of his abandoned drink.
“ Ka. if you want to go then there’s no reason for you to be here. No I haven’t been sick. I don’t get sick. so lay off will you? and boss or not stay out of here its the girls bathroom.” You slammed the door in his face and leaned on it for a moment trying to clear your head before heading to the sink to rinse your hand off and get the glass out of it. You let out a loud gasp of pain as it pulled loose with a pop and noticed that your eyes were no longer grey but a violent silver. As soon as you tried to really see it they were normal again.
“What the hell is going on with me?” You muttered heading over to the first aid kit in the corner and going to put gauze over the gaping hole in your hand only to find that you didn’t need it. The cut was small and would be covered up easily with a large band-aid. It didn’t even seem big enough for the pieces of glass you pulled from it anymore. I could have sworn it was worse than that. You thought, but you put the band-aid on anyway and headed out the door where Seungri was still waiting.
“Don’t you ever get tired of following me around? What are you a vulture or something?”
“Or something sounds about right. How is your hand?” He chuckled but you could tell it was an attempt to hide how nervous he was. He still had his eye on the crowd where a few people were staring at you like you were a plate full of grilled meat.
“Gwaenchan-a. Not even cut as badly as it seemed. Do I pass whatever test this is? Yah!” You yelped when he grabbed you by the wrist and lifted the injured hand up to look at it. He didn’t bother to be polite either instead ripping off the band-aid and looking at the wound. Where a big gash and a few smaller holes should have been there was only a shallow cut.
“That’s not strange to you?” he demanded throwing it back like he was annoyed that something disgusting had gotten on his hand.
“Ani. I got lucky. Wae?” You rubbed at your wrist and studied the man in front of you.
“That’s not luck and part of you knows it. When do you turn 25?”
“A couple months from now. Not that I can see how it matters.”
“Shit...” He muttered. His mind went back to the woman Hyunseung had killed in England, T.O.P’s girl. Never got sick, only gotten bruises when she should have had broken limbs, even large gashes would turn into minor scrapes. Then about a month or two before she’d been supposed to turn twenty five she’d started coughing up blood. It wasn’t til after her death that they found out why she’d been sick. If Y/n really was the same two things had just become very certain for Seungri. First Chaerin had been right about you not being a mouse and second they were all fools if they kept this hunt going.
“Look pick up your last paycheck tomorrow. You don’t work here anymore and keep your friends out of my club.” He said.
“What?! Seungri, you can’t be serious it was just a broken glass. Does it even matter to you that I need this job?” You scoffed.
“If you really think this is about a glass you’re more blind than I thought.” He said. I’m doing this to protect you. You thought you heard him say.
“Yeah, you’re protecting me, whatever. I’ll get Autumn and Lillie out of here.” You bit back and pushed past him.
Wednesday PSA
Hey guys I am back again!!!! its time for another one of my weekly updates. I will try to keep these going so that everyone knows my writing plans and I can keep up with the follow forevers/writer appreciation every week too. This one will probably be a bit long seeing as how I am going to do an introduction on it as well.
Hey everyone if you haven’t already met me yet I am the admin for this blog. You can either call me Chey or Chaos. I am 24 years old and I currently run three tumblr blogs. My main blog Chaosrose92 started out as a fic blog and over all it has become a multi fandom blog as well as a semi political lgbtq+ supporting blog. I started mostly with Supernatural fics then went to marvel fics. It started to get cluttered when I started reblogging things from my fandoms, news articles and political views so I created the side blog @megstielismyhappyplace just for me to reblog and write for supernatural. if you prefer a one fandom blog that is your best bet. I created another side blog just for keeping up with the fics that I have written/am writing so if you came for the fics and are tired of the kpop, art and political clutter go follow my other side blog @chaoswriting92 it has everything I have written/ am writing and I update all of the masterlists as I write so you don’t have to work to track everything down. Also just so you know I consider all my blogs to be a safe space so if you ever need someone to talk to just shoot me and ask or a message. (this does not mean send hate or be a jerk I have a very firm policy about being fair and understanding but I have little to no patience for bulls***).
As of right now my fic worklist is as follows (no specific order sorry):
- remember me finale (jiyong version)
- Vanished series Chapter Three (vixx fic)
- Immortals series Chapter Four
- Requests or catching up with other chapters (bad form, fire starter, hello gorgeous etc.)
I can currently am willing to do requests for the following Some of these I have never written for but I am willing to try so if you have a request send it in. (no smut requests please. if I do smut it is on my own terms... trust me you may not even want me writing it. I am no good at it and I would lose all of my followers I promise.) :
Fandoms (keep in mind I am very behind in a lot of these serieses so noncannon requests would be best but i will try):
- supernatural
- vampire diaries
- bitten
- teenwolf (tvseries)
- firefly
- sherlock (bbc)
- marvel (avengers, xmen)
- AHS (murderhouse,
- Doctor Who (preferably 9th and up)
Music Groups (mostly Kpop):
- big bang
- got7
- bts
- 2ne1
- vixx
- winner
- BVB
- Falling in Reverse
- EXO
Requests I am currently taking:
- Drabbles
- reactions
- imagines
- gif/appreciation posts
- ships
- any requests having to do with serieses (i.e. if you have a question/comment, if you want a series made from one of the drabbles etc.)
Last but not least my follow forevers for this week. (based off of the blogs I have shown the most love to this go around and the ones who have been avidly following me this week)
PSA
Hey guys!!!! I know I am behind on putting the fics out but I kind of have a crap ton of drafts in my box right now and have been busy with work and momocon and computer trouble. In no specific order ( except for the last two which are the very last things I will post after I get done with at least one of these serieses)(which I intend to work on that) this is what I have in my worklist:
Remember Me/ Stay with me Chapter 11Immortals Chapter 3Immortals Side Chapter- Bad Form Chapter 9
Fire Starter Chapter 15- Something Good (an Im Jaebum oneshot/ fic)
- Untitled (Vixx LR x reader au)
also just so you know…
DRABBLE REQUESTS ARE OPEN!!!!
I really haven’t worked out the concept on the Vixx LR fic yet but it will probably be one of the last ones if not the last fic that I post since like I said I want to get some of my series work knocked out first. I currently do not have any requests in my inbox though I will take them if I get them. Also if you have a request or a comment on any one of my fics (please make it valid criticism and not dim witted hate mail) or would like someone to talk to about anything on or off anon remember that my blog is a safe place to do that.
And as always my multi fandom friends….
Stay Shiny,
Chey
finally got down to no more than three drafts in the DRAFT box. happy @kingdomsfall1234 I said it right that time.
so the next order of business is as follows
1. bad form
2. something good (JB Got7 drabble/One shot)
3. Vixx LR reader insert fic (this will probably wind up as another series unfortunately so I am trying to put it off as long as possible)
I am taking drabble requests still so if you have them. for spn, kpop, ouat or marvel I am all for it. just drop me a message. Also my ask is always open and I do run this blog as a safe place so if anyone has any questions or comments or just wants to talk there is that as well. Only thing I ask is don’t be hateful because though I am understanding I don’t put up with mean people.
As always....
Stay shiny,
Chey
Background on the Immortals.
Okay since I had a little time I thought I would do this.
1. How this story is going to be set up:
After a lot of thought and consideration I am going to have this one split between the main story and side chapters. The side chapters are going to be set in specific time periods and have to do with a specific character but will not be necessary to read or understand the story It is just extra information and a way to get my ideas for the main chapters organized.
2. Character list:
Main:
Y/N{alex}: One side of your family is long decended from Korea and the other half is a European stew pot. Being born in America you traveled to Seoul to take care of your Grandmother and start a new life after college where you started working in a night club owned by the members of big bang. You were so used to being different that when things start happening around you like breaking the wrist of a guy twice your size, hearing things above average or having strange dreams about people from the past you don’t take notice but unfortunately someone else did. Species: Abilities: Age: 24
Big Bang:
Jiyong {G-Dragon}: Leading one of Korea’s biggest Idol groups is powerful enough but when you add to that a life filled with blood and magic and an unprecedented amount of mischievous love for eternal life you get Kwon Jiyong. Species: Vampire. Abilities: subconscious manipulation. i.e. can affect dreams, what people see, basic emotions (exhaustion, pain, euphoria) and even memories.
Seungri: Dangerous and mysterious don’t begin to describe Seungri in this au. I mean how do you beat someone that can control your mind? He hasn’t had a door closed on him once since he became a vampire... unless it was the one he really wanted open. As the youngest of the group he has a lingering love for his human side as well as a lust for the afterlife to rival any new born. Even after centuries he is still amazed by the newness of it all but the most intriguing thing yet was meeting you. Species: Vampire Abilities: Elevated Mind control/ glamour
Daesung: Being the group’s sort of middle child he didn’t really stand out. He showed up when his sire T.O.P did and stayed with the other four. Seunghyun had never told them how Dae became a vampire but he doubted any of them would care even if he had. He got picked on by the others for never cutting his hair but when you had his abilities you didn’t need to. Besides there are some things that should remain unseen. Species: Vampire Abilities: Elevated senses physical and metaphysical (i.e. Auras, magnetic fields, on occasion ghosts)
Youngbae {Taeyang}: Youngbae is probably the most reluctant vampire you could meet. He got bored with immortality as soon as it was given to him but thanks to the others and Big Bang was learning to love it. He was even getting to where he enjoyed the hunts that Jiyong had come up with all those years ago. Jiyong was one of the few that still got through to YB. His brother in all but blood they had even been sired by the same woman but unlike Jiyong YB hadn’t wanted it. He hadn’t gone looking for this. He’d just wanted to save his friend. Species:Vampire Ability: Camouflage/ invisibility
Seunghyun {T.O.P}: No one is really sure how T.O.P. got involved with the others. It wasn’t often that a born vampire was kicked out of his coven or found wandering as a nomad. He just showed up one day with Daesung in tow and they’d been friends ever since. He wasn’t even sure how it worked himself. He just died on his twenty-fifth birthday and came back like this. because of that he was faster and stronger than any of the other vampires even some of the born ones that he’d met. He never spoke about the reason he was removed from his coven and the others had learned not to ask.
Hyunseung: The odd man out who has lost everything. Coven status, family, friends and even his mind. He was kicked out of the coven as a young vampire with Jiyong, Seungri and Youngbae but when push came to shove they abandoned him too. Now the ones who were supposed to be his closest friends are his worst enemies and he won’t stop til they lose everything just like he did. Species: Vampire Ability: Shape shifting/ voice manipulation.
Supporting: (strike = dead)
Lilly: Friend from college.
Autumn: Childhood friends growing up in Savanna, Ga.
Yang Hyun Suk{YG}: Head of YB, Seungri and Jiyong’s coven/ YG entertainment company. Sired Seungri. Hard feelings between the two of them for that. initially kicked the three of them out of the coven due to reckless behavior. (Kicked out Hyunseung at that time too)
Lee Chaerin {CL}: Sired Jiyong and Youngbae when she was young vamp. Born not bitten. Psychic abilities. i.e. sees future, psychometry, auras, mind reading ability, etc. Oldest member of coven by choice. joined shortly before BB was called back into the collective. (shortly is a relative term, for us it is a year or less for them it could be 2 decades or more)
Dara: bitten vamp. turned by member of YGE.
Park Bom: bitten vamp. was dying in a car accident when turned by Dara.
Minzy: youngest member of the coven before being murdered. culprit unknown.
Carina: Itaian. died victim of a hunt outside of an old villa in the 17th century.
Elizabeth: English teacher in Victorian London when she met Seunghyun. Killed by another vampire/Jack the ripper.
Marguerite: French. 1960′s woodstock when she met Seungri and they fell in love was the reason he left the group for a while Murdered by another vampire in 1979.
Adeline: Civil war Alabama. Thought to be killed in a jealous rage by Daesung.
So I’m on AO3 and I see a lot of people who put “I do not own [insert fandom here]” before their story.
Like, I came on this site to read FAN fiction. This is a FAN fiction site. I’m fully aware that you don’t own the fandom or the characters. That’s why it’s called FAN FICTION.
Oh you youngins… How quickly they forget.
Back in the day, before fan fiction was mainstream and even encouraged by creators… This was your “please don’t sue me, I’m poor and just here for a good time” plea.
Cause guess what? That shit used to happen.
how soon they forget ann rice’s lawyers.
What happened with her lawyers.
History became legend. Legend became myth…. And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost.
Someone made a fanfic based off one of her characters/books and didn't use a disclaimer and her lawyers wrapped them up in this big ass court case. At least that's what I understand about it. That's why no matter what we write now it has a disclaimer on it. Even when using real life people to avoid insulting someone I use a disclaimer.
“villain attempts to go back in time to kill superman as a small child, gets shot in the face by ma kent, who buries him behind the barn with the others” would probably have niche appeal as a comic but i don’t care, i want it
The first time a man from the future showed up at Martha Kent’s house, Clark Kent was two years old.
According to his birth certificate, anyway. She just kind of accepted that the details were a little fudged. Relativity, and all.
Maybe the stranger would have succeeded in whatever it was he wanted to do, except that he really did just show up. Appeared, like a ghost made flesh, right in the backyard. Clark, thank goodness, was out in the fields with Jonathan. He couldn’t bear to be alone, that boy, and they could never bear to leave him.
Which left Martha free to shoot the ghostly intruder in the face.
Martha had not always considered herself a shoot first, ask questions later sort of a person. But that was before she found a baby in a spaceship where her corn was supposed to be.
They’d switch off, Jonathan and her, who got Clark and who got the shotgun. Martha got the shotgun more often than not. Guns made her husband uncomfortable. She was hardly a fan, but she’d always been a terrible pacifist. Too determined to defend herself.
The sight of all that blood and brain and bone was still nauseating. She compartmentalized, told herself it was no different from slaughtering a cow; didn’t think about riot gear or tear gas or the friends she’d lost or all the things she’d moved away from when her heart couldn’t take it any longer. This was different. This was her son.
She prodded the corpse with her foot. It remained a corpse. A real nasty looking corpse, all big and burly and holding a gun much too large. She didn’t like making assumptions based on appearances, but she didn’t imagine he’d been coming for anything nice. She bent down to search his pockets, found a metal wallet and flipped it open.
Born 2018.
Well, hell. Wasn’t that just a kick in the pants?
Probably she ought to have been a bit more unsettled than she was. But she’d been waiting two years for someone to show up on her doorstep, men in black or UFOs or something. Hell, she’d half expected her sweet little boy to hatch into something worse.
Just because she brought home space babies didn’t mean she was a damn fool.
Jonathan had rejoined her in long strides, was holding Clark in such a way that he couldn’t see the corpse on the ground. “Well, shit,” he said.
“Eyup,” Martha agreed.
“Don’t look government.”
“Nope.”
“We burying him?”
“I’ll bury him,” Martha said, standing up. “You get Clark inside and read him a book or something. I don’t want him seeing any of this, getting him messed up in the head.”
“You sure? Looks heavy.”
“That’s why we have a wheelbarrow. I’ll stick him out behind the barn, might as well keep all our secrets in one place.”
Martha had a long time to think as she dug a time traveler’s grave. There were a lot of reasons someone might travel back in time trying to kill her kid. The first was her instinct as a mother, which was: he was a fucking asshole. Who killed a kid? Fucking assholes, that was who.
Now, it was also possible that her sweet little boy grew up to be some kind of space Hitler. She didn’t think she’d raise that kind of a kid, but she didn’t suppose there was any parent who set out to raise a Hitler.
Still didn’t sit right with her. She didn’t much like the idea of killing baby Hitler, either.
this is awesome and I am usually not a big dc fan but damn. if there was a martha kent comic I would read the hell out of it. at least as long as it was just like this beautiful piece of work.
I don’t know if anyone has ever done this before but, here ya go… The Different Types of Fanfiction!
I probably left a few out, but these are the most common, compared to their base fiction’s canon plot. Enjoy! XD
The crack fic is enough for a reblog.
then there are these favs…. ;)
always reblog
I definitely go for drabble, au and alteration
Dear fanfic readers
Look, if you ever doubt that fanfic authors REALLY HONESTLY DO want to get comments from you if you liked their work, even if it’s just a quick “this was great!”, then consider this:
last week, for the first time in years, i finished something that I felt good about publishing, in a fandom/ship where it was bound to get some attention. It was 800 words of introspective fluff, but it was WRITING.
I have gotten four comments on it. Just four, that’s it.
Four comments and I feel more motivated to write than I have in probably five years.
Never ever think that your comments will be a bother, or that just saying “I loved this so much omg!!!” or incoherently keysmashing isn’t “enough” of a comment to bother leaving.
WE LOVE TO HEAR YOU SAY YOU LOVE OUR FIC, AND IT LEADS TO US WANTING TO WRITE MORE FOR YOU.
It’s a win-win.
Leave comments on fic you enjoy, even if you don’t think you have much to say.
I promise the author will appreciate it.
Firefly Preview
@writingthingsisdifficult here is the teaser for the next part of the firefly series. By the way if you have anything you’d like to see happen let me know. I’ve had a bit of writing trouble this week so that’s why no one is getting their hands on my full work today.
What changed your mind Captain?” Zoe asked looking smug and crossing her arms careful not to jostle the baby growing in her womb. “I asked her who the best pilot in the ‘verse was and she gave me a name. It convinced me that’s all.” Mal answered. “Who’s name did she give you?” Zoe asked curiosity getting the better of her. “Hoban Washburne. Point is we’re still flying and the kid isn’t the pilot anymore.” He said in a tone that meant he didn’t want to discuss it anymore. “I thought River did a fine job of keeping us in the air.” Zoe laughed a rare sound since Wash died and Mal didn’t take that for granted.
Fire starter Teaser
Okay guys I promised Teasers from the next parts of each series and here is the first one.
Your first thought had been to get out of town and not look back but the closer you got to the bus station the more you thought about Pepper and when it came time to choose a direction you found yourself heading to the hospital instead of the bus station. “Hi I’m here to see Pepper Potts could you tell me what room she’s in?” you asked trying to sound like you were just visiting and not on the run from someone. “What’s your relation to Ms. Potts?” The desk clerk asked not bothering to look up fro her computer. “I’m her cousin.” The lie fell out of your mouth easily but you were getting impatient. The longer you were here you knew was more of a chance for either the guys or worse to track you down. “Room 413. Visiting hours end at 5 sharp.” She divulged sounding bored with her job. “Thanks.” You replied and set off for the elevator. You opened the door to Pepper’s room and felt the guilt set in like a lead weight in your throat. She had bandages on her arms and tubes running out of her but she was awake. “Hey Y/n. Tony didn’t tell me you were up. Why don’t you come sit and keep me company for a while. The nurses here aren’t very good at it. Wait what’s wrong?”
Preview day!!!
Just in case anyone is anxiously waiting on the next parts to their favorite fics from this blog and @megstielismyhappyplace just know that Preview day is upcoming (Friday most likely) and that I have the next parts to Firefly, Fire Starter and “Hello gorgeous do I know you” (HGDIKU for future reference) already in the works. and hope that you guys will stick around for a while
