Holding Back the Years [1/2]
Summary: Steve spends a rainy afternoon telling his granddaughter about his first love
Word Count: 1949
Warnings: fluff, slight angst mayhaps? (bc Steve is sad?), mentions of racism
A.N: The song itself is actually super sad, so this is loosely-based on the song lol I also had to look up the tfa timeline and this is also loosely-based on that so enjoy!
*gif not mine!
Petrichor fills the atmosphere surrounding the small, cozy home in the middle of Saranac Lake, New York. The rain has finally settled down, leaving that earthy smell that he adores so much. Steve sighs in content as he rocks himself on his porch swing. Although he hadn’t physically aged much, he enjoyed… older people activities, such as swinging on a porch swing. Once he finally retired from being an Avenger, he settled down in the village of Saranac Lake to raise a family away from the hustle and bustle of New York City.
His wife enjoyed the peacefulness that came with the small town. She enjoyed that she no longer had to worry about the possibility of Steve not returning home to her. They have 3 kids together: James, Natalie, and Wilson. Natalie has been the only child so far to have kids of her own. Steve enjoys being a grandpa much more than being a former Avenger. His favorite is his first granddaughter, Isabelle – Izzy for short— because she reminds him so much of himself. She’s only 8 years old and already so feisty yet honest. So far in her little life they have shared many moments.
Like this one – Steve was enjoying some quiet time on his porch until he heard his front screen door screech as it opened, heavy footsteps running towards him. He laughs as he feels Izzy’s tiny arms wrap around his neck from where she stands. He laughs and pats her arm in way for her to let up. She giggles and moves to sit onto his lap.
“How ya doing, grampy!?” She questions gingerly, playing with her grandpa’s beard.
“Better now that you’re here, sweet pea.” He replies, tickling her sides a bit. She laughs and squirms in his lap. When he finally stops, she gets off of his lap to sit beside him and they sit in comfortable silence.
It's good that Steve could have some relaxation after retiring! But that's sad that his grandsons don't really want to visit him like that. Hopefully they'll come around! Good thing Isabella likes to hang with her grandparents. Wow what a flashback!😭😭🤧🤧. They were so in love!😩😭🤧🥺. That's so sad that he never got to see her again!🥺. Is she still alive?👀👀. I mean it is wrong for him for him to feel that way but not having that chance to see her again and the way she made him feel messed him up! He is probably still in love and has love for his wife but that relationship is different. That lil girl is wise beyond her years. Amazing job you did my good sis!🙌🏾👏🏾👍🏾💖.
