You just landed on one of 200 fandoms that have been very popular somewhere on Tumblr over the years. Topics were chosen either from appearing on a @fandom end-of-year recap or from my own long (long, long) site memories before that.

also all of these fandoms are definitely things that really exist in the real world and none of them are Tumblr creations

there's a really funny 3d printing controversy going on btw.

if you don't know, there's a very popular 3d printing model out there called "benchy". this is used for benchmarking your 3d printer because it's a difficult print and will help test it out.

this is so widely used that people make their own little versions of it, remixing the 3d model to make benchy look cooler and stuff. however, a new company owns the benchy license. they are sending copyright takedowns to all those who wrongfully uploaded the benchy model.

of course, this is pissing off the 3d printing community greatly. everyone loved benchy and have used it for years. so someone on reddit decided to make a new model that is designed as a 3d printing stress test. one that works a lot like benchy, and people are freely able to edit it as they please. you know what they called it?

yeah I couldn't quite figure out how to fit my more in-depth thoughts about their dynamic in the joke, I kept rewriting it! but my actual take is like

they have different approaches to the *narrative* angela constructs of them being forced to be together.

when hedwig talks about her dreams, she pretty explicitly touches on the appeal of a rape fantasy as absolving you of any responsibility for wanting to be desired or touched.

there is something similar imo going on with angela where she needs to construct this narrative that she and hedwig have no choice but to be together. i mean, I think she also believes it! but, having established this necessary pretext, she seeks comfort from hedwig in ways that don't fit into that narrative (i.e. kissing her in the bath), which confuses hedwig.

on the other hand, for all her weird kinks (affectionate) and internalized homophobia, hedwig doesn't *need* this narrative to permit herself to want things. see: adela.

so it feels like. angela establishes this narrative partially sincerely but partially as a necessary pretext where, because she is forced to fuck hedwig, they are not responsible for the choice. but even when she makes up with the other sisters, she assumes it will hold true (and that the expression of it will be an exclusive romantic relationship).

meanwhile, hedwig accepts this at face value as the reason angela is acting this way. at no point is she like "we are doing a scene and this is separate from the part where we comfort each other." she is completely Inside the world where angela Has to flash her to motivate her. to solve the murder.

and ofc this is a great framework for angela being mean and degrading which hedwig is extremely into and wants her to continue doing. but when they are no longer forced together by the murder investigation, hedwig is ready to let this specific narrative of their relationship go (because... they're no longer forced together by the murder investigation!)

at which point I think angela is like 1) hang on that was a load-bearing element of how I was dealing with this, we can't just be Deciding To Fuck and also, somewhat contradictorily, 2) why are you acting like you sincerely believe we were only fucking to solve the murder? I thought we were falling in love within the constraints of the narrative?

hedwig is almost buying in too sincerely to the "oh no~ we have to~" instead of using it as a stepping stone to something else

so the joke is more like
