Ianthe and ADHD...

This post includes a theory that I've never seen so far (on a serious base), but that seems (as the Worst Case of ADHD that's ever lived lol) pretty obvious to me. It's no secret that many of the characters are some sort of neurodiversity-coded and I have seen the ADHD theory for basically almost every cavalier... (I wonder fandom *looking at you* if it's just a coincidence that ADHD is only connected to muscle work and not to bookish necros... Because I fear it's not. I know where that comes from but it's fucking hurting) However, anyway. For this post I have no other choice than to ride on the edge of the knife of text-based character analysis and self-projecting. Have fun! I'd actually LOVE to think what others think of this theory.

1. A Stupefying Deficit of Attention

The certainly most obvious sign in this context is the "Alas. I have a bad personality and a stupefying deficit of attention" quote. At this point is to state that she 1) REALLY shows that she has that deficit of attention, and secondly... well. You could argue that it's just her build up character she plays in the Ianthe-Corona-dynamic. And she is really in many things more a character than a real person. (Ahahdgdggd masking) But! If you'd build up a character that lets your codependent twin shine - and it's a character you'd have to play all the time - wouldn't you choose a role that's easy to play? For example, if you are really unable to concentrate on some things for a longer time, you could just use it as a sign "of your bad personality"? I think I would do it.

(Especially, since claiming things that are out of your control as being villainy is an effective protection from being hurt for them. People will attack the villain you are not, so you don't have to feel hurt and you have chosen this form of attack, because it's okay for you, because you keep your power and... *Ianthe Ianthe Ianthe* control over the situation)

2. Being bitchy

Sorry haha. This point is maybe formulated a bit provocatively - but it fits perfectly because provocation is exactly where I want to go with it. Provocating others gives dopamine and dopamine feels good. Ianthe has in almost every sentence little insultings - and I think it's because it makes talking more interesting to her. And also, it reassures her immediatly about the opinion others have of her. But! There is also another deeper reason. That reason is called vulnerability.

Dying as a Skill Issue

I just made a post about Ianthe's "Dying is for suckers." quote and now I realized that "Dying as a skill issue/dying as failure" is actually an essential part of her character.

In the psychogram story The Unwanted Guest she talks about it even more. She presents several deaths of known characters to Palamedes and tells him why they have died in her opinion:

Ortus did not die because Crux was an asshole and killed him, but because he was too sad.

Abigail did not die because Cytherea murdered them, but because she brought her husband to Canaan House as her cav. (This point is especially random. As if Cytherea wouldn't have slaughtered Babs as well...)

(It's by the way interesting that she doesn't mention Jeannemary and Isaac here. Maybe even she knows that that would be hella tasteless. Ooorrrr she has a different reason.)

Dying is for suckers in her opinion and dead people died because of a lack of skill.

That even partly explains why she wants to become a Lyctor (and likely a God or even more than a God) so much: Dying would be a personal failure to her.

That whole philosophy really reminds me of a conversation Harrow had with the Body in Harrow the Ninth.

Death as a mistake, death as a personal failing.

Harrow is afraid to die because she fears her death would be a waste of the resources invested in her life. I wonder why Ianthe is afraid to die. What kind of failure would it represent.

Shout out to Gideon Nav, I've never been so motivated to exercise or been participating in exercise out of my own free. She died so I could have 1% less osteoporosis as an old lady

Hello again! You might remember my illustration of the "Last Supper" featuring characters from "The Locked Tomb". Right now, I'm working on illustrating all of "Harrow the Ninth" (it's my favorite part of the series). My skills have improved over time, and I'm excited to bring new artwork to the fandom. Please follow me so you don’t miss out!

(Sorry for my bad English)

I’d also like to show you my Ianthe cosplay. For it, I sacrificed an arm and asked Harrow to grow me a new one.

the locked tomb series is really like. maybe love doesn't conquer all. maybe love is not pure and good and holy. maybe love is not a white dove come to save you from yourself. maybe it won't fix you. maybe it'll make everything worse. maybe love is dirty and ugly and terrifying and awful. maybe it'll kill you. maybe it'll warp you into something unrecognizable. maybe love is a parasite and by the time you realize it's there, it's too late to tear it out of you, no matter how badly you might want to. maybe it's a cordiceps fungus, tangled up in your nerves, making you do things you'd never ordinarily do. maybe love is a dog with its jaw locked on your arm. maybe love is an angry ghost. maybe love is a brain hemorrhage, a seizure, two weeks of sleeplessness and cracking open your own tibia unanesthetized in a bathroom. maybe it's the ocean you'll drown in. maybe it's poison. maybe it's scary and filthy and difficult and bad for you.

so what now? are you going to stop? are you even going to try?

no. of course you aren't.

Ortus says: psychotic disorders are on a wide spectrum and don’t make you less capable of thinking. Hallucinations often have perfectly reasonable roots and are not a sign of weakness. They’re a sign of a person under excessive strain finding creative ways to survive.

The Mystery of Canaan House

I don't know if it's occured to anyone else but! have you ever thought about... how strange Canaan House and the first planet in general are?

Canaan House is the Earth, right? But Alecto is the soul of the Earth, isn't she? But... the planet couldn't live without a soul... So it must have a soul... (or has it, really?) The Earth apparently never has been destroyed like the other planets. (Only completely radioactively contaminated.)

So... what happened to the Earth? Did John just pull the whole soul out of the planet and let it die? (But it's alive since 10.000 years, so probably not... ?) Is... still a part of the soul of the Earth in the planet?

The planet is obviously coming apart at the seams. It's often stated that Canaan House is run-down. (I also kinda remember that it's said that Canaan would be dying but I can't find a fitting quote).

Apparently... parts of it... have been ressurected. It would explain why Teacher mentions the resurrection (the quote above) and it would also explain, why different parts of the building have different ages (if you remember Palamedes question).

But... how? Ressurection isn't possible without a soul that's about to be ressurected, right? Does that mean Canaan House has a soul? *What* soul? Is there a rest of Alecto's soul in it because it was to big? Or did he put it in? Is it maybe a completely different soul? (Or multiple different souls?) Has he... I don't know... just put a Ressurection best in there? (That would at least explain the creatures and ghosts in the cellar of Canaan House).

But isn't it strange?

That's so true because they still have fish and crops at Canaan whereas other killed planets lose all ability to sustain life over a few centuries... much less than the thousand years. Maybe it's because Alecto is still alive, just in status and trapped far from her "body"?

"The soul longs for the body"...
