Star Wars Canon ? What is that ?
This is a really interesting blog post I found thanks to reddit as of recent. The author discusses the looseness and chaos of Star Wars Canon and how fans should be allowed to come up with whatever they want while the creators basically just tell the stories.
By this extent, I am more than capable of suggesting that the Kyber 6 survived the Jedi Purge because their deaths are not actually confirmed despite the heavy de-facto implication.
I encourage everyone to give this blogpost a read.
Once you embrace a view that “canon” is ultimately an individual choice, i.e. “reader-centered”, and that there is merit to people sharing a diversity of views on what constitutes their individual “canon” then the notion of “canon” can become very fruitful and productive. It is an encouragement to seek for a deeper level of personal understanding of what attracts you in Star Wars narratives, what you find compelling and what inspires you.
It sounds like this is defining how people take on personal headcanons, which is definitely something that happens. And something that is bound to happen with Star Wars, especially. The fact that the EU is a thing is reason enough.
When new content is not moderated and the helm keeps getting passed around from creator to creator, there always bound to be someone who will do something with the universe that we don’t like.
So, in my opinion, fans are totally free to pick and choose what they like and run with it.
