thinkin about little lew piper with his nursery rhyme name, bluntly asking jaime what's up with all his bruises, being mocked by daven and not getting the joke ("we don't have a sister"), probably having quite a nice time up until he has to sit there and listen as his boss threatens to trebuchet the unborn child of his older brother's best friend
brienne's affc storyline is so beautifully written and explores quests and gender and violence and religion and knighthood in such a thought-provoking way, genuinely baffles me how so many people complain about it being plodding and uneventful
god!!!!!!

i think i must have almost totally skipped the reaver chapter of affc bc i remember the vic/euron chat and nothing else but my god i enjoyed it so much on a reread! i'm proud to identify as morosexual victarion you're so fucking stupid!!!
reading cersei iii affc and she was so right to change the titles of the small council! justiciar sounds so much cooler than master of laws
say what you will about stannis' attempts to win the hearts and minds of the wildlings and the northerners but "one realm, one god, one king" goes so hard as a campaign slogan
assorted affc thoughts that don't quite merit their own post but i still want to get them out anyway
- cersei's panicked thought process of "my noble lord father would NEVER sleep with a woman not his wife", much like cat in asos when she briefly fears that 'tansy' is a woman...delicious 2 me
- asha and rodrik's convo is some of the best dialogue grrm has written. love them so much!
- arya enjoying her time on the titan's daughter so much...i hate to hand it to d&d but i like to think they nailed her endgame
reading cersei pov chapters is just making me want to watch the regime (kate winslet european dictator show)...i tapped out after like 3 episodes but it really is just modern au cersei
jon thinking of stannis and catelyn in the same breath...the same stern blue eyes...the same brittle iron demeanour...yeah i am going to need stannis/cat fic thanks!
i'll go MY LORD but you are making a mistake MY LORD you are sending the wrong man MY LORD just the sight of me is going to anger mance MY LORD would have a better chance of reaching terms if he sent--
breaks my heart when lysa and sansa talk of cat's death and we see genuine emotion breaking through lysa's haughty exterior - tears spring to her eyes, tells sansa they are "bound by blood", calls her sister "cat" when often she uses her full name. breaks my heart! lysa has worked so hard to isolate herself from her family, and holds so much resentment in her heart for cat, and we only catch a glimpse of the love she also holds for her, deep down. a thousand years ago they had shared a secret language.
assorted asos thoughts (i'm nearly up to the purple wedding):
- breaks my heart that even as robb says that he wants theon's head, he speaks so familiarly of him, "theon told me this and this about the ironborn" sort of thing
- also jon thinking of theon "smiling in that way he did" when the thenns attack castle black - i cannot WAIT for their reunion :')))
- genuine hand on my heart roose offering cat theon's flayed skin is so romantic. need an au where the red wedding doesn't happen and cat goes to seagard and gets caught in a love triangle between dilf jason mallister and roose who just keeps sending her bits of skin in the mail
- while im on the topic of mallisters i absolutely love that patrek abstains from drinking during the red wedding as one of robb's sworn swords, and so is completely sober when he stands on a table and proposes a toast to edmure's "one-eyed fish". a true friend, riverlands fratbros forever
just got up to dany iii on my asos reread and my god what a belter of a chapter! just an absolute masterclass in close third person pov!
following along with the fan-made timeline during my asoiaf reread is so eye-opening. what do you mean ~6 weeks passes b/w cat i and cat ii asos. like makes sense given how long it would take robb's army to travel from the crag to riverrun but......six weeks of sitting with your dying father who keeps mistaking you for your sister and asking for forgiveness for the botched abortion he forced upon her. six weeks of being held under house arrest by your brother while he spends his days hanging out with his frat bros listening to propaganda music. no one is doing it like the tullys
