I love this meme because I think humans 10,000 years ago or 100,000 years ago would also like it

the heat of the fire draws air straight up from the center over the fire. This draws the air in from the sides in a circle around the fire creating an air current, which means air is being blown toward the fire from all sides. When you sit on one side of the fire, it blocks some of the air moving toward the fire from that side. Now there is more air being blown toward the fire from the side opposite you. This pushes the smoke your direction. When you move to the other side, it just makes the same thing happen over there. The smoke actually literally does follow you around no matter where you sit. Because physics.

in other words what you actually need at the fire is other people sitting around the fire with you to balance it out ;~;

You cannot visit the caves at Lascaux or Chevaut to see the ice age cave art but there are several other caves in France where you can still go and see the art in person. I have been fortunate enough to visit three. In 2007 I visited the cave of Niaux in the Pyrenees mountains. The Magdalenian art of horses, wisent and even a weasel date to 17,000-11,000 ybp. The second was the cave of Pech-Merle in Occitania 2012 which mostly has Gravettian art from 21,000-33,000 ybp. The horses here are spotty and there are also paintings of wooly mammoths. The third was the cave of Cougnac in 2017, also in Occitania which has art from both the Gravettian and Magdalenian periods. The most impressive art here are the depictions of an ibex, and of a large elk or Megaloceros containing a human figure’s hindquarters.

These paintings are inconceivably old and put us in touch with the origins of Europe and the first men - a life changing experience. I doubt they will remain open to the public forever…

Cave paintings are one of the pillars of  paleontology, as they’re vital glimpses to a past that we can no longer glimpse, the last witnesses to creatures we’ll probably never see in our lifetimes.

They’re also a great source of unintentional comedy.

Look at that bear, so smug at being so well drawn. Look at those mammoths. You know they’re charismatic when, no matter where, they’re REALLY well drawn.

Today I received a message saying my order is out for delivery. I was confused as I didn't order anything recently. Finally when the delivery arrived I realised it's the book I ordered months back and lost track of it. Once the order was placed I didn't get any updates. Anyway the book is here somehow and am elated.

V.S. Wakankar is the father of prehistoric art in India. Unfortunately, not many of his writings are available easily. So this book is of paramount importance to anybody studying prehistoric art. This made my day ❤️
