As I'm rewatching Marvel's Daredevil and The Punisher, I think we all need to take a sec to appreciate Karen Page's storyline.

Secondary female characters in the MCU are almost always reduced to being love interests and/or badass helpers for the male lead (Claire in Daredevil and Luke Cage, Colleen in Iron Fist, Dinah in The Punisher, Misty in Luke Cage, Elektra in Daredevil). As much as I appreciate all of these female characters, Karen's storyline stands out thanks to its evolution. Yes, she starts off as a victim and becomes Daredevil's (and even the Punisher's) love interest, but those are parallel to the storyline that is given to her exclusively: from working as an accountant whistleblowing against her company, to legal assistant taking down Fisk, to journalist setting the record straight on the Punisher, to looking the freaking Kingpin in the eyes and telling him she killed his best friend. The most striking thing to me is that she isn't a cop (Dinah/Misty) or a fighter (Colleen/Elektra) or even in a position to provide care (Claire). She can't punch her way out or heal wounds. All she can do is dig for the truth and live with her demons and acknowledge that she has as much in common with someone like Frank Castle as she does with Matt Murdock.

My girl Karen deserves some serious appreciation for being the only secondary female character in the (Netflix?) MCU who changed careers twice and still kicked ass in all of them.

im sorry but writing enemies to lovers on ao3 is so fucking funny. one of them will go a whole paragraph saying how much they hate, absolutely despise, have genuine burning contempt for the other and we’re all here knowing damn well that enemies to lovers tag is just sat there. like we already know what’s coming bro you’re just embarrassing yourself

the appeal of enemies to lovers though is less “oh will they ever get together?” and more “at what exact point does he go from wanting to kill the bitch to the oh in italics?”

The reason vampires go to hell and werewolves don’t is that vampires just suck the juice out and waste the rest. If I saw somebody lick all the sauce off some pasta and leave the bare noodles intact I’d condemn them to eternal damnation too.

Ok but also from a like, theatrical storytelling perspective, there’s a thing called “willful suspension of disbelief” which is basically the concept that in order to let ourselves be immersed and enjoy a story, we need to turn off our knowledge that it’s all fake anyway.

like yes, we all *know* it’s unrealistically bright for a night time war, but it needs to be so we can SEE the story being told, and the lighting designer used blue light to show it was night time. We KNOW that Sir Ian isn’t actually a wizard but we SUSPEND that DISBELIEF because we want to be entertained.

theres the moon, theres the stars, in this fantasy world the stars might be four times as bright or there might be two moons or, considering this is a land without electric lights, its assumed that everyones eyes, including those of the viewers, have adjusted enough to the darkness that yes normal ass moon and stars provide sufficient illumination to actually see that the elf king is not wearing sweatpants like youd be able to tell or who the hell was that who just got stabbed thats kind of an important detail in an action scene

Elijah Wood said he brought this up with Andrew Lesnie, cinematographer on LOTR, once and asked him where the light was coming from in a particular scene, and Lesnie just smiled and said “same place as the music”.

i think villains in general provide better, more epic romances because they're allowed to go to extremes. they're allowed to put their love over the greater good. they're allowed to be selfish. the best a hero can offer you is number two, because their duty comes first. villains, though. villains will burn down the world for a last kiss goodbye.

all i want is to live in a high fantasy world where my life takes a turn for the better when i meet a few strangers in a tavern who will soon become my found family and we go on increasingly wonderful and magical adventures until we eventually save the world before retiring to a little cottage in the woods where we share a laugh by the fire every night. is that too much to ask

gameshow called ‘pride or prejudice’ in which the contestants are presented with a gay joke and have to guess if it was made by a queer person or a homophobe

the contestants are all vaguely liberal straight people who are desperately uncomfortable with the entire concept
