Ah, but for now it’s my turn.
This is made for my two horrible and leathal babies: Shiroin and Kiel from my ‘Rise of the Blood Dawn’ series! I have a book masterpost that gets updated frequently. Go look if ya wanna!
Let’s begin!!!
1) What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.?)
S: I would say her hair and the fact that she has a very deceiving childlike appearance was always a goal. I also wanted her name to have something with Shiro in because I adore the sound of the word ‘white’ in Japanese and 90% of my fave anime characters has that name!
K: his teeth and that poor posture of his. I also remember having decided on his haircut (long in front and short in the back) very early on!
2) Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
K and S was always together and I created them that way. Later, in Book II and III we have a lot of characters that are created for each other too but I’ll talk about them all soon enough.
3) How did you choose their name?
S: Shiroin has blond hair as the only person full blooded Kyohon so her mom thought it suited her. But of course there’s nothing white/pure/innocent about Shiroin and she hates her own name.
K: I just wanted something that sounded like ‘kill’ hah! So tacky!
4) In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
S: her death magic/curse.
K: his assassin foster-farther and the way he was slaughtered (a BIIG backstabbing ambush staged by the king of Blue Flag!). Kiel shaped his life philosophy around that event.
5) Is there any significance behind their hair colour?
S: yeah. Totally.
K: yeah. Him too!
6) Is there any significance behind their eye colour?
S: ...yeah.
K: fuck. Yes!! I’m a cliche alright!! I admit it!!
7) Is there any significance behind their height?
S: sorta. The curse has lived like a parasite inside her, her entire life, and that has made her ‘freeze’ in a very childlike body.
K: nah.
8) What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
S: her paaaaaaiiiin man. And That Doubt though!
K: his want to live in the now.
9) Are they based off of you, in some way?
*sweats nervously* these guys are pretty horrible people bruh.. of course they inherent some of my less flattering traits. Perhaps more than I would like to admit.
10) Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
Sure! They’re both fluid and alway were (I actually had a lesbian scene in the script, back when it was a ‘sensual’ novel. Had to cut it for plot though *weep*).
But Shiroin likes anything pretty and dark. Kiel is attracted to strength and determination.
11) What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: Writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
S: the balance between her fragility and strength!
K: figuring out his secrets. And keeping them for him.
12) How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
Aaaah.. all the way. It makes my heart twinge.
13) If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
Nothing is fair and no one is ‘pure’.
14) What is something about your OC that can make you laugh?
Their awkward grotesque humor. I love when it gets page time, because I legit laugh out loud at my own jokes.
15) What is something about your OC can make you cry?
How much they love each other, though none of them deserves it. And when I make their hopes crumble. That’s makes me sob..
16) Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
Hmmmmmmm.. no. The story couldn’t have happened if they all had happy childhoods.
17) What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
S: she has a sweet tooth. Sickly sweet!
K: he likes objects better than people because they can’t lie.
18) What is your favourite fact about your OC?
S: her learning curve! She might not be able to see the bigger picture at the beginning of Book I, but she sure as hell can by the end! And her endurance. Nothing can kill death.
K: Kiel will never judge you. He might not like you or think you are really stupid, but he won’t judge. ALSO he’s a sword-master and that’s freaking cool!!!
