“Oh, oh there she is! Look, are you looking, Ria??” Silver nudged Ria in the arm with her elbow.
“Hey! Fudge, man! You made me spill!” Ria growled and shook her hand. Her caramel-super-espresso-foam-bomb had wobbled over the rim.
“That spill cost me at least two bucks, you owe me two bucks.” The ear-piercing grind from coffee beans, drowned some of her words.
“Yeah, yeah,” Silver wafted her hand at the bitching, and kept her eyes on the girl in the white dress.
It was a dress draped in lace and lace and more lace, and it was almost as too-over-the-top too much, as Ria’s ‘coffee’ order.
“She’s so pretty…” Silver sighed and melted down into her arms that crossed on the slightly sticky counter.
“Everytime I see her, she’s wearing a new dress. She has to be making them herself. Like, where the fuck do you buy that, am I right??” Silver had seen the dress-girl, well, young woman, eight times now.
The first time was an accident. Silver had been standing in line at the coffee house, and then the peach frills and bows had caught her eye. It had made Silver do a double-take with the straw hanging out of her mouth. And now. The last seven times, had not been so accidental.
Staying by the window, same time, same place.
“You are being creepy. Like. Stalker-ish.”
“I’m in love.” She sighed again.
“No. Like her soul, man. Her insides.”
Now Silver jerked to a sit on the stool.
“Fuck! I’m being serious, and you are being a cunt about it!”
The coffeehouse went quiet.
People were watching. Turning in their seats. Glancing up from their phones. They didn’t know that Silver’s cursing was as much a part of her, as that foofy white cloud of a hair.
Ria shot a Business-guy a tight smile, then ducked back to the window and Silver.
“Alright. Alright. Okay, I can see you like her. For real. But why haven’t you gone talked to her yet? Hm? I’m cool. I mean, it’s cool. You know that right?” Ria shrugged her shoulder and took Silver’s hand to give it a squeeze.
“I…” Silver frowned. “I know.”
“Then we should go talk to her? No?”
“I donno. You are making me nervous…”
“She’s waiting for the buss, Silver. It’s perfect. If you strike out, the conversation has an organic end when her buss comes. It perfect, really.” Ria gave her a crooked grin.
“Yes. Okay. You have a point. But I look like shit. Like, shit-shit… Fuck. Gimme your gloss.” Silver patted her skirt, then smoothed her black turtleneck over her chest, and fluffed up her hair. It didn’t need fluffing, but the way she did it, made Ria slow as she reached into her backpack.
“Sure.” Ria shook her head and gave the tinted gloss over.
“I’m not gonna kiss you if you smoke that.” Silver hissed as they got to the other side of the road.
“That’s fine. You can kiss Miss Frills. I’ll watch.” Ria said with her teeth in the filter and the lighter clicking.
“Fucking perv.” Silver hissed again, but she was blushing. Flustered and blushing. Not a combo Ria often saw in her girl, but it was her favorite.
“Mh. Just go, chicken.” Ria stopped and leaned her back on the buss stop sign.
But just then, a truck roared by. It almost hit the curb, it was that close.
The sudden gust made Silver’s skirt fly up, flashing her sheer dark pantyhose and her black underwear.
“FUCKING HELL!!” Silver screeched and frantically got the skirt down.
The girl dropped her jaw and the book she had had in her lap, at the same time.
“I mean, sorry.” Silver dove at the girl’s white shoes and picked up the book to hand back to her. “I mean, hi.” She corrected herself in a wince.
Ria had turned her head, but you could hear her quiet snicker.
The girl looked over at her, then down at Silver.
“... Hi?” British accent. She gently took the book.
“Oh, you’re reading Poe? That’s so cool.” Silver got up, but she was thrown off her game.
“Yes. Thanks.” The girl was sceptical.
“I never read him, but I totally know that cool people do. Oh, like at college, like, a lot of people do. For class. Or fun?!” She was sounding like a drowning person. Taking too fast and too squeaky.
The girl slowly packed her book away.
“M- my girlfriend reads Poe! Like, she’s a Horror Core, youknow! She’s a witch!”
Ria looked over, and raised a brow.
“A witch? Really?” The girl asked, her head tilting.
Ria blew out the smoke from the corner of her mouth.
“Yea.” Ria shot Silver a glance, not sure whether or not she should break into the conversation. Then pushed off the sign and stepped closer. “Silver is a witch too. We’re in the same coven”
“Coven? Are you then here to hex me?” The girl was almost smiling.
“A little.” Ria shrugged, and grinned.
“A lot. But I seem to have dropped my spells on the way over here.” Silver laughed. “I love your dresses. More than your dresses. I would really like to get your number? If- if that would be okay??”
The girl turned back to Silver.
“You don’t even know my name?”
“Fuck! Sorry! You’re right!”
“And you are involved with someone else?” She tipped her head to Ria.
“Ah, that’s, that’s kinda not an issue.” Silver scratched her neck. “For us. Anyway.”
“Hm.” The girl slipped on her purse, and got out of her seat. “I thought I was waiting for the buss, and then it turned out that I was being bewitched by lesbians. What a strange day.”
The buss appeared as if conjured, from around the corner. It exhaled in a long mechanical huff and opened its doors as it stopped.
“Yes! I’m sorry if I was forward. I’m not usually so so-”
“It’s quite alright. I understand.” The girl stepped up in the bus and fished out her travel card.
“I’m sorry if we scared you. No harm intended.” Ria called after her.
The girl twirled around in the door, white skirt soaring. Bows and ribbons bouncing.
“I don’t get scared that easily. I’m Horror Core too. And you may both call me Cordelia. See you around, witches.” The smile that was on Cordelia’s pretty lips was so sinister and dark, that it made Ria drop her cigarette in awe.
Silver and Ria stared after it.
“I’m in love…” Ria put her hand on her heart.
“Told ya.” Silver sighed.
