Shocking how many people don’t know that hens lay non-fertilized eggs and think the yolk they’re eating is a baby chicken
once tried desperately to make my friend understand that yolks were not, like, a liquified potentiality of chicken, and she looked at me for a while and then said, "but they’re both yellow."
Behold
A chicken
Behold
A Man
#in case someone doesn’t know: hens lay eggs with or without the presence of a rooster#commercial chicken eggs are almost always unfertilized#(phrased it that way because there may be exceptions but if so i don’t know about them)#the yolk of an egg is the nutrients the embryo would have used to grow if the egg *had* been fertilized#sometimes a hen will lay an egg with two yolks#or with none#a yolkless egg is sometimes called a wind egg#(also that philosophy joke is hilarious)
