I choose a birthday icon every year. Since I’m 29 today I selected Cassandra Peterson. A couple years ago I listen to her on a podcast saying she didn’t get @therealelvira gig until she was 30. At 29 she really started getting specific about what she wanted. This was after decades of hard work. She also refused to leave her honeymoon for the audition. Women are told that 30 is the end, that you’re old. But it’s not. Started #d17 by lighting candles and reflecting on privilege. I’ve often been able to say no. I’ve been able to give bad reviews for shitty men with the caveat ‘if you need the money take these precautions, I won’t judge you’. I’ve been able to lay down boundaries and have grooming clients pass me by. I’ve still been assaulted but I’ve never been killed. SWRights intersect with all other marginalized identities. It’s an added danger to people already at risk. Last year I prayed the list of names would be shorter but thanks to certain bills it’s much longer. That’s the deaths we know of.
