#us politics#i think an enormous amount of effort went into justifying why people were “allowed” to vote for trump without feeling bad about it#it'll be interesting to see how that holds up in retrospect on an individual and collective level over time#some people; it'll collapse when something immediate and important enough smacks them in the face#others...? i think they'll double down. again and again.#as i said#evaporative cooling effect#the relatively more “moderate” voices leave; and all that are left are the more extreme positions#each departure can be modeled as removing energy from the system; making it less likely for others to depart#the question then—if this is a model that can be applied—is where in the process are we; now?#if this was a historical retrospective; i would be fascinated to learn about it#my enthusiasm is rather blunted by how i'm living through it
